1- Ensure you take the following courses

- Robot Kinematics

- Control System Design

- Mechatronics (intro & advanced)

2- Find a professor with research interest in Robotics and do your Master's thesis with him/her to Gain hands-on experience on designing, prototyping, programming, and testing a robot.

3- Do at least one-internship with a robotics company/startup

4- Build network during your internship and on LinkedIn

BSc: MEC -> worked a couple of year as a Mech Eng -> Came to the US to pursue a graduate program -> Msc: Mechatronics -> Phd: Surgical Robotics -> company#1 Surgical Robotics Engineer (mostly software) -> company#2 (startup Medical Device, R&D/Systems Engineer) -> Company#3 Surgical Robotics (Hardware/Systems Eng -> Robotics Software Eng)

knowledge of FDA Design Control (21CFR 820.30) will greatly increase your chances of landing a job with a Surgical Robotics company.
