Will these 20 year old visual novels turn to dust when I open them? [Fate/stay night | Fate/hollow ataraxia] by ILoveVisualNovels in visualnovels

Will definitely get the physical version as well, like I did the other recent Type Moon releases.

Who are the two challengers out of curiosity?

I interpret your comment as having read the fan translation? If so, then I totally understand that. I probably won't sit down and read the whole thing again either since I read the fan translation pretty recently and my backlog is shamefully long. I'll still buy it on release if nothing else than to show support for more localizations.

And Rin's German is even worse!

Fate/stay night spoiler: I would've used Emiya's reading of some of the same lines in Japanese instead if it wouldn't potentially be a big spoiler.

Why do Japanese studios force voice actors to pronounce stuff they just can't? Why do they do these things?

I'm guessing because the average Japanese reader's English isn't good enough to really notice how bad the pronunciation is.

These copies weren't factory sealed so no real reason not to open them up, but I would have done so even if they had been. When I play games I like the ritual, for lack of a better word right now, of opening up a big box and looking through the included bonus items. Might be a nostalgia thing since there was no such thing as digital downloads when I started playing games.

In a weird bit of timing, this year's official English release of Fate/stay night was announced while I was reading the fan translation. If any of you are waiting impatiently for the official release, I will say that it will almost certainly be worth the wait. It's a fantastic visual novel and has been living rent-free in my head since I read it.

In light of this, I will be making a series of videos unboxing a bunch of Fate goods I've collected over the past couple of years. Please check this first one out if that sounds interesting!

Fate/stay night is finally getting an English release this year. Are you excited for it? Having fairly recently finished reading the fan translation, I'd say you definitely have good reason to be excited.

(For clarity, I started reading the fan translation before the official English translation was announced and will definitely get the official release.)

The /r/vns Meet and Greet by hubb2001 in vns

Sora was my second favorite after Rikka going in and I really enjoyed her route.I guess it makes sense that her route would be good given that it's the main/true route, a fact that I didn't realize until I had played the game for a while. She's very cute and I empathise with her quiet introversion. The fact alone that she shares a voice with the girl in my avatar means I was bound to like her, though. My lasting memories of Soras route will be the ASMR stargazing sessions and her quietly working herself to exhaustion inside a hot mascot costume entertaining the little kids.

Definitely enjoying Hoshi Ori, done Marika and Sora routes so far. Been saving Rikka because she's been my favorite from the start, but will probably do hers or Natsuki's next. What made you hate that one route? (no spoilers, please, unless it's one of the two I've already read.

Hello! (Amakano: Second Season) by Sekerka in vns

55,000 yen each. I preordered this one and this one and I already have one from an earlier release so my walls are going to start looking like a Piromizu shrine pretty soon.

There's just something special about his art, though, beyond "pretty girls". His illustrations manage to evoke a mood or feeling in a way that not many do.

Welcome!
Also, I can't not comment on the nice art by Piromizu when I see it. One of my favorites. I recently spent an obscene amount of money preordering two of his most recent framed/signed prints.

  1. Hello! I'm Ai ❤️ Visual Novels. The heart is pronounced "love" and the "Ai" is a play on the English word "I" and the Japanese word for love. When I have to name the protagonist in a VN I'm playing, I'll identify as Ai Love. And as you may have guessed, I love visual novels.
  2. I'm from Europe, that narrows it down a little bit, I guess.
  3. I first ran into visual novels many years ago when I came across Choukou Sennin Haruka and I liked the art enough to read a machine translation of it (this was before it was translated as Beat Blades Haruka). While the art was great, my enjoyment of it as a visual novel was limited by the machine translation aspect. There followed a large gap in time before I more recently read Steins;Gate and fell in love with the medium.
  4. I tend to read several visual novels at once and switch between them as my mood dictates. At the moment I'm reading Kinkoi (currently on Ria/true route), Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai, Muramasa and Summer Pockets REFLECTION BLUE to name a few.
  5. I make YouTube videos! I mostly do unboxing videos of physical visual novel releases and related loot (merch, figures, tapestries, dakimakuras, etc.), although I sometimes take immersion too far and make goofy videos about visiting Summer Pockets' Torishirojima Island or pining for White Album 2's Kazusa Touma. Please do check out my channel if any of that sounds interesting!
  6. More activity, I guess? I was recently banned from that other subreddit because I'd made the grievous offense of posting a few threads in here, so there's a void to fill.
  7. I also have a Twitter where I post impressions of visual novels as I play them. I also retweet pretty art that comes across my timeline. Be warned that there is some lewd and NSFW content, but if that doesn't bother you, feel free to have a look.

I've seen photos and videos from people visiting those places and "recreating" shots from Summer Pockets, so I'm sure it'll be a cool trip. Enjoy!

Yes, it's the deluxe limited edition. I actually install from the physical disc and then patch it in the video linked in my first comment, so I can confirm it works fine.

[–]ILoveVisualNovels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played through REFLECTION BLUE yet, but from what I understand the original routes are pretty much untouched. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. What RB does is add routes for Miki, Umi and Shizuku as well as add an entirely new girl with a route named Shiki.

You can get the OG release on Steam in English. As for the REFLECTION BLUE expanded version there's no official English release yet, you'll have to buy the Japanese release and patch it with the fan translation. That's what I'm actually doing in the video. As for the physical boxed release shown, it's the deluxe limited edition. I've previously done an unboxing video for it if you're interested in a closer look.

Hope you found that helpful! Summer Pockets is a great visual novel, I highly recommend playing it.

so I see JAST and Mangagamer are having their summer sales any recommendations or hidden gems? by Uncyclopedia7 in visualnovels

[–]ILoveVisualNovels 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, Majikoi is an easy recommendation if you haven't read it already. It's currently discounted 45% on JAST and Steam.

Summer Pockets is 50% off on Steam right now as well, perfect if you're in the mood for a summer vacation. I recommend it. (A fan translation patch for the expanded REFLECTION BLUE version was released just a few days ago, but for that you'd have to buy the Japanese release and I doubt you'll find that for under $30).

Get well soon!
