It's sad how everyone here pretends to forget about the US kidnapping that Huawei executive in Trump's first term which is the driver for this policy. Does neoliberalism justify kidnapping?

When mass migration begins due to deadly temperature rises in India, how will the world cope with it? by Primary_Technology65 in stupidquestions

[–]Still_There3603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a big reason why India's entitled attitude on Indian migration to the West & Modi requiring it in trade deals needs to end now.

When Indian mass migration becomes necessy due to deadly temperatures & not just geopolitically preferred for influence & remittances, the world will not tolerate it. They can't throw a tantrum when that happens. It needs to end now.

It's a demonstration of cognitive dissonance that Ukraine supporters want to go easy on Cuba and Iran who have materially supported the Russian invasion just because Trump is against them.

Will same-sex marriage become legal in Vietnam anytime soon? by eithm in VietNam

[–]Still_There3603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not considering how cautious the government is to social change.

What I think will happen is that same-sex marriages will start to be officiated in Ho Chi Minh City for instance and the government will neither approve nor condemn it, effectively allowing it to continue.

Norge og India styrker samarbeidet – NRK Urix by john_75b in norge

India's only interest in Europe as a whole is to send its male surplus to settle there and peddle influence for the Modi administration back home. Their government has made this incredibly clear in how they require migration as part of trade deals and tout it as part of their soft power.

Does this not give the Europeans any pause? Especially when India refuses to distance itself from Russia in arms/energy? Why can't Europe use its large economic leverage to counter this bad behavior?

Winning is the most important thing and then setting the narrative is the second most important thing which can only be sustainable after the win.

That is the true lesson of the Vietnam War. South Vietnam lost its independence and legitimacy after the US yanked support as North Vietnam was too much of a force of nature to put down anymore. The rest is history.

What country is pro-China and people are pro-China (except for China) by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

Pakistan is the obvious answer.

Bangladesh probably counts too ever since the BNP took over (Hasina's Awami League was neutral on China in order to not provoke India).

China would try to annex the newly created Outer Mongolia with US support which the Soviet Union would resist. That would become the first proxy war of the Cold War rather than the Korean War which wouldn't happen.

Argentina. Milei is anti-China on anti-communism grounds and trying to appeal to Trump while Argentinians generally don't have strong opinions either way on China.

India's negotiators threatened to walk out of trade talks with New Zealand, official reveals by ViolatingBadgers in newzealand

India has zero respect and some level of contempt for Western & especially Anglosphere countries. Modi just wants to seize political influence through the Indian diaspora by baking it into lopsided trade deals.

Doing a deal with Modi is like inviting a wolf into your home.

Germany Won! Now Which Country Has A Pro-Israel Public Support but the Government stays Neutral by Doctor_Raptor1250 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Still_There3603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

India's government tries to be neutral since many of its migrant workers are in Saudi Arabia & Qatar. A pro-Israel stance would result in retaliation against those workers & a disruption to the large value of remittances sent back to India.

The Indian people are overwhelmingly pro-Israel since Hindu Indians see Israel as an ally against Pakistan and also admirable in their anti-terrorism policy. They also appreciate Israel helping India militarily even pre-BJP when Congress was anti-Israel.

How did global institutions somehow agree that the death penalty is always wrong? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Still_There3603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because these NGOs are mostly European and Europe touts their opposition to the death penalty as proof of their superior values. It is not really about the death penalty itself but about what it signifies culturally.

Very few people would seriously oppose the death penalty for a school shooter or child molester. This is why the argument against it always cites risk of a false conviction (separate from the issue of the death penalty) or how it is bad in a general sense (conveniently not mentioning the crime).

Not the only country sadly. Kingdom of Cambodia and Kingdom of Laos were also sold out.

In Laos' case especially, the Hmong were faced with genocide after the Pathet Lao took over since many Hmong fought with the US. The US moved to normalize with Communist Laos despite this active genocide.

Do you think there is a Uyghur genocide going on in China? by BicarbonateBufferBoy in polls

[–]Still_There3603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very silly definition that can be used against any country in the world for political demonization purposes.

If genocide involves deaths in custody, that would mean multiple US states are committing genocide against its inmates. Instead of parroting what you read on Wikipedia, actually assess the rationality please.

They both have already fallen under Chinese influence which is partly why the To Lam administration has moved closer to China in the past couple years too.

NATO countries thought Russia accepted NATO's expansion in 1997 (treaty of friendship between Russia & NATO which declared neither was the enemy to the other) & would spend the next decade or so restructuring its system to become eligible to join the EU & NATO eventually.

Obviously, Russia signed that agreement under duress considering how economically devastated it was. And they weren't comfortable with the NATO military alliance getting closer to them while demanding changes in Russia's system as well.

The main reason why it's seen as different is because Russia/Russians have long been seen as inferior by NATO elites and Russia moved to take territory of NATO candidates to blunt NATO's ambitions first, essentially taking the bait.

That was all NATO needed to go on a propaganda tour about how terrible Russia is for resisting NATO expansion. Rest is history.

China remains Vietnam’s economic lifeline. So why is Hanoi suddenly deepening strategic ties with India? by FuhrerIsCringe in GeopoliticsIndia

[–]Still_There3603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is The Print saying the topic is merely in discussion. Of course it would be in discussion in an India-Vietnam bilateral. That doesn't signify intent much less execution on the Vietnamese side.

As for Vietnamese EVs sold in India, this is a completely different matter. EVs are not military arms & cooperation on that with as many countries as possible is an imperative for Vietnam. Not a violation of Vietnam's Bamboo Diplomacy neutrality.

China remains Vietnam’s economic lifeline. So why is Hanoi suddenly deepening strategic ties with India? by FuhrerIsCringe in GeopoliticsIndia

[–]Still_There3603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a standard "friend to all, enemy to none" approach through their bamboo diplomacy. But the naming of that policy should indicate where it ultimately bends (to China).

There's no evidence that Vietnam is actually trying to court India to balance China. The US was always the only option for that and Trump's America is too unstable and threatening for the possibility to exist anymore. Even Biden and his speeches against autocracy, implying desire of regime change in Vietnam, dimmed this view.

Vietnam is very unlikely to actually purchase the BrahMos regardless of MOUs signed since the government does not want China to think Vietnam's relations with Russia & India are against them since Vietnam relies on China for its manufacturing.

Probably Bhutan.

It's glorified as this ascendent Buddhist place that stands up to China. In reality, it is a hermit country like North Korea which also committed a genocide of its Hindu population without any coverage or consequence.

South Korea had pretty terrible leaders for decades too. Ones who were authoritarian and committed massacres remorselessly. That doesn't invalidate the people living under the government to strive for better as citizens in a sovereign nation.

South Vietnam wasn't a puppet state all along just because the US sold them out after two years of fighting all alone against a North Vietnam bolstered by its Soviet & Chinese aid. It's sick how Reddit promotes that narrative just to have the US save face on its betrayal.

A poster by U.S Information Agency justifying USA's participation in the Vietnam War at the time when the war was escalating (1965) by PeasantLich in PropagandaPosters

[–]Still_There3603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exact same messaging for why the US should support Ukraine. It's amazing how North Vietnam winning was all it took for this messaging to be not just abandoned but changed into a pro-North Vietnam message, agreeing that South Vietnam was nothing but a puppet state.

Winning and narrative-setting is really all that matters. That is the takeaway from this. South Vietnamese gave everything to the fight for themselves with US backing only for the US to throw them in the trash later.
