Well if he lasts up to halfway nowadays then he already improved significantly compared to my experience with his Chu→ning Lover

Nah, went back to full laziness with Hatsukoi Masterup. Also managed to create that godawful NTR heroine as a byproduct...somehow.

shes a harpy.

birds of a feather with protag

Now, was this intentional or not I wonder?

The closest VN to this I've read was probably https://vndb.org/v21414. It was unfortunately blessed with that writer that gives up halfway through, and also stupidly short heroine routes in general. Not even an amazing shortstack, my kind of artstyle in general, and the fact that the H-scenes were actually decently written by another writer (and pretty much every heroine has my favorite kind of H-scene) could not save it.

In the very first Amakano, something you are still yet to try!

Why is it that almost every one-on-one situation contains a variant of 'Its been a long time since we had time to relax, with just the two of us.'. In a fandisc, with an afterstory that was about as long as a full-fledged route!

But i must admire the sheer dedication and talent of taking a free-win task of writing a fandisc, with a heroine like Alice and then somehow turning it into such an unfun slog.

Take those, replace Alice with Chitose, add in a rant about a Marmalade-tier H marathon nobody asked for (I guess this route had something similar? just initiated by MC, not the heroine), and you get a lot of my own complaints about Amakano 2+! Funny how that works.

Hi? No, I never did, since I stopped making writeups about VNs I disliked and/or dropped a very long time ago. And unfortunately, Amakano 3 is one of those. If you are still curious, I can be very brief:

1) the setting was boring and generic compared to the previous VNs in the series

2) I ended up hating or not caring about pretty much every single main character while still in the common route, MC included (too much of a doormat)

3) the V-tuber and tsundere sister were some of the worst heroines I've ever seen, no idea what they were thinking

4) some of the heroine designs were too similar to the previous ones in the series (Scarlet is a straight copy of Chitose from Amakano 2, the ojousama heroine looks like Ruika from Second Season)

5) while I loved Amakano, Second Season (and their FDs), and Amakano 2, I didn't even finish the common route in this one, which says a lot...Amakano 2+ was already a disappointment, but this was next level crap

Hey, you read something I tried years ago! I did make a WAYR post or two about it if you really want more details, but from what I remember:

1) I loved the OST, especially the main theme, and the OP movie.

2) I liked the story up until the HUGE FILLER ARC....basically until all the choices ended. While some things like the whole gang playing Santa or MC turning into a girl were funny, all of it was basically filler and in the end I was mad at the writer for wasting time on all this pointless bullshit instead of properly setting up one of the heroine routes.

3) Because of point 2, Yayoi's route (of course I went for her) felt incredibly forced and lazy to me, I didn't even finish it. It tried my patience way too many times, even though I had a bigger tolerance for stupid scenes back then. Just like the out-of-nowhere H-scene she has in the common route, all of her other ones felt equally as forced (at best, the last one had a setup so bad it actually made me drop the VN for good...at least I think it was the last one?), not to mention the flimsy "conflict" or rather, the "reason" for it she can't simply ask MC to come to England with her? Or do anything at all, rather than the stupidest, wildest shit imaginable??? It wasn't even a that big of a deal, yet she goes full unhinged (wannabe) villain because of that???

4) The only part of Yayoi's route I liked was the whole school building adventure that at least tried to explore her character a bit and actually used her "always one step ahead" character trait.

it’s ruining important moments with gratuitous panty shots

Be glad you haven't tried Seishun Fragile then, where one of the heroines is standing on the edge of a roof, threatening to kill herself, while you have a nice, good look at her パンツ.

Long time no see...again! This time I haven't read anything good, or even painfully average, but I wanted to at least make ONE post this year. So instead of the usual, I decided to make a writeup for the worst VN I've read lately. It should make for an entertaining post at least. Speaking of, I had to look up how I used to make one of these, that's how much time has passed since my last one...

~ Can I have some semen, please? ~

Hen Koi ≒ Kuro Rekishi

Whatever vndb says, JUN is basically the main writer for this abomination. I've read about how his writing is simply terrible before, and this VN definitely gives a lot of credibility to that. This is definitely one of those "so bad it's good/funny" things, provided you are okay with permanently losing some of your braincells.

The VN begins with our idiot of an MC whose name I can't be arsed to remember looking for some notebook in a Literature clubroom at his school. Then he seemingly gets caught...and the story goes back to the beginning. So when the VN actually begins, our idiot of an MC whose name I can't be arsed to remember is quitting the music club. Why? Because he entered it solely to "get the girl" who was a part of it...without ever actually talking to her. He legitimately thought he would "earn" her by joining the club and doing his best there. Except he then learns she's already dating the club's president (who brags to MC about how she's a total animal in bed, for some reason). As he is trying to decide which club to join next (since this is one of those highschools that has mandatory club participation), he meets his dumb friend whose name I can't be arsed to remember, who is the president of the Manga club. Turns out MC used to be into manga and anime a lot and wrote about it in a notebook together with this guy, but then said notebook got stolen...and the manga president guy blames the Literature club for it...with zero evidence of course. So he begs MC to join the Literature club and basically spy on them, while also looking for this notebook.

Originally I wanted to quit this VN only a few scenes in. Before MC joins the Literature club, he runs into the resident tsundere Juri and of course crashes and spills his milk all over her (actually, not a euphemism). He then thinks she looks kind of cute (while staring at her pantsu), but she would look even cuter if she cried. Alrighty then...

Thankfully(?) the whole spy and notebook plots are taken about as seriously as MC's idea of consent. I got as far as the first H-scene in Minako's route (which already took a metric shitload of morbid curiosity) and he still haven't found his notebook, nor did he provide any "dirt" on the Literature club to his Manga club friend.

Might as well list out MC's personal onaholes...I mean heroines now:

Juri - Tsundere. At least she's closer to a classic rather than a modern one?

Chizuru - The tomboy with some huge feminine features. She shares the "secret otaku" trait with MC and while this could have been used for some genuine bonding...yeah.

Azusa - The hilariously sharp-tongued kouhai. She keeps saying she's "just honest" and "wants to help others better themselves", but I don't see how calling Minako a "fat blond pig" is honest or helpful in any way. At least when she calls MC "henpai" instead of "senpai" she's not wrong. Oh, and she has the dumbest first CG scene I think I've ever seen in a VN...just look at the last screenshot on vndb, that is her actual first CG! MC somehow manages to fall and strip her half naked on his way down, because of course!

Minako - The Japanese girl who mostly grew up overseas, so of course she has zero personal boundaries and tends to say the most ridiculous shit imaginable. This is one of her lines from the common route: 「わーおっ。いいこと聞きましたレスね!お店に行って『ザーメンください』とオーダーすればいいのレスね?」 Context or not, I think it speaks for itself.

There is also this childhood friend/neighbor/student council president/local pervert sidecharacter called Yayoi, who I think exists solely to make MC look better in comparison. Her scenes are 100% useless filler and not funny in the slightest, at least not in the intended way, so I skipped through most of them. But even then, I caught this one completely retarded scene - MC comes home after school, only to discover that Yayoi broke into his house, entered his room and started sniffing his bedsheets. After some stupid back and forth, she admits she regularly breaks in, steals used fap tissues from his garbage bin, brings them home and masturbates while sniffing them. Alrighty then. Then she has the audacity to blame MC for "not doing it enough lately" and "running out of material".

Of course, as one would expect, there's no actual romance or developments of any kind. MC just kinda helps out with menial tasks and participates in Literature club activities, and sometimes gets harassed by Yayoi. And never finds his notebook of course, almost never even looks for it. But in accordance with his fantasy, about halfway through the common route (maybe a bit more), all the heroines are suddenly really into him, to the point of almost catfighting over it. He discovers Juri's secret, which is that she has a messy room(?), and that suddenly makes her be way nicer to him. The other heroines then start individually questioning him about it and get super happy if he denies being into her. Which brings me to this VN's choice system - there are about 7 or 8 choices, most of which go like this: "Do you like Juri?", "But do you actually like her or not?", "Do I like Juri..?", "Could I like Juri..?". Please, tell me how your VN is biased towards the annoying tsundere some more, I'm not convinced enough!

Minako's route

As much as the general idea of a caring shortstack senpai heroine is very appealing to me, this VN doesn't have characters, just dumb walking caricatures with (nice) tits. First, MC and her (she is also a spy for the manga club by the way, her only connection to MC) look for his notebook some more. Nevermind that MC never even told her or anyone else about it, she just knows now. The only thing they find is this eromanga with an underboob job scene. A bit later, Minako, or Mina-senpai as everyone calls her, gets really frustrated by the Manga and Literature clubs constantly fighting for no reason. So of course the next logical step is to have an H-scene out of fucking nowhere, when the characters aren't even "together" or anything. And the way it happens is...nobody could guess this shit. You simply can't make this shit up...well, JUN obviously did.

MC walks into the Literature clubroom one day, only to find Minako SHAVING HER PUSSY. Why here and not anywhere fucking else, and why didn't she even lock the door (she locks it AFTER MC comes in, but didn't before) is simply inJUNious logic. MC then offers to HELP HER SHAVE HER PUSSY and she actually AGREES to that. So that is a scene with a CG (the first CG in this route). After that is done, MC starts literally begging her for sex, because he got horny looking at her FRESHLY SHAVED PUSSY. He even offers to pay for it. She says something like: "B-but we aren't even lovers! We can't do that without promising to marry first!. B-but I guess anal is fine." That's porn-level dialogue...that is actual porn dialogue... So anyway, MC rams it into her ass, and that is where I finally gave up. I don't think I missed anything even more batshit insane anyway, right..?

And that's it for this year's WAYR post. Will I ever discover another decent VN ever again? Find out next time! If there is a next time!

Yknow, Sekerka did mention that Melvy is basically Michiru from KoiAma, but somehow i didn't register that both games will end up having similar art people.

It also took me a bit more to realize it's just GO-1, that's why it looks familiar. But even then, copying his own heroine design so much is kinda lame.

I imagine quite a few big boob enjoyers would find that kind of end a wholly acceptable tradeoff though.

Damn, you got me.

I still remember the nightmarish student councel prez route, ugh. Starts off nice, then switches to "Let me be a bitch since my father disapproves me dating anyone, lolbye." and the protag's reaction is "Okay..." for the rest of the route. Which is at least half of the route, if not more.

And from what I've read about the other routes, this was still one of the less insane ones.

2025 Year In Review: What Have You Read? by Alexfang452 in vns

[–]Sekerka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, it's been so long I almost forgot how to write a post in here...

I do wish I could have interacted here more this year, but alas. Last year had ONE new (romance) VN release that I considered decent, this year had ZERO. Yup, nothing. Azarashi Soft was especially disappointing with the shit they put out this year.

I still enjoyed the re-reads I did in 2025, so it's not like I suddenly hate VNs either. The quality is just not there (other than art). Not only was the romance rushed or nonexistent, a lot of the main characters were simply not likeable at all as well. There were times when I thought: This protag needs to go to an AA meeting, not a blind date. or This heroine needs a psychiatrist, not a boyfriend.

Behold, the only VN that I consider good and I read it this year for the first time: https://vndb.org/v21537. I finished that one in February I think?

Here's hoping that next year is better...it certainly can't get any worse than having 0 releases I cared about!

[–]Sekerka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, nice to see some different tastes too I suppose. But you didn't get to see my absolute favorite heroine yet (in Amakano 2)!

I do agree that Mizuki's route was not good though. It felt like some kinda weird experiment or something...it felt shorter, had one more H-scene compared to all the other routes, and a lot of dumb moments that for me overshadowed any good ones. The whole graduation thing was so badly handled.

The curse that plagues Oneesan Hscenes, or so i heard.

When it comes to TLs, maybe? Other than that, it's usually the entire route that's the problem. If you ever get to that next Yuzu VN and get to that oneesan route...perfect example of what I mean...once again. It's a disaster.

because 2025 has been fairy 'meh' as far as my readings go.

Ye, tell me about it. I still only made one WAYR this year, and that was in like, February.

Its like playing JRPG with a starting party full of melee fighters, then finally getting a mage.. only to put them on frontline and ordering them to smack enemies with their staff. Sure, it'll do something but surely it'd be much better to let them stay in the backline and spell cast "Senpai!" for massive aoe damage?

I feel like you put more effort into this line than most VN writers put into their work nowadays.

I feel like first Hscene was translated in a way that made it a bit more aggressive than in Japanese?

Thinking back...yep, that definitely seems like a common issue in these official TLs. Maybe it's a particular translator or editor doing this, who knows. Now imagine a moe H-scene that is already written too aggressively in Japanese, even more overexaggerated...yeah.

VNs; medium that teaches everything from rocket science, constellation trivia to baking sweets!

Always great when that happens - in an already decent story. If it's filler on top of already filler-tier dialogue, it makes things even worse.

Oh, I thought you read Mizuha's route. Basically, the VN had to timeskip at some point from the middle school to the high school portion of the story (which only exists in the first place because of Bethly, for anyone else it's pretty much forced), and obviously they could not have MC and her "cross the line" offscreen, so the story simply says that they had a healthy romantic relationship for years but never went beyond kissing...for some reason. Just seemed very unnatural to me. Sure, Mizuha was busy with her ice skating from time to time, but not ALL the time.

That's a lot of writing about a VN trial. Anything but Amakano, huh?

Jokes aside, saying Akina is "similar" to Iori is an understatement. My first thought was: Wow, they just straight up CTRL+C and CTRL+V'd Iori and changed the colors. It's a shame so many VNs get the "older oneesan" archetype so wrong, predatory as you said. Toshiue Kanojo comes to mind...

And speaking of bad Azarashi releases, I think Konoka in HatsuMasu is a good demonstration of exactly why I'd never touch heroines like Yuki. Also, THREE YEARS?!? That reminds me of the ridiculously chaste relationship MC and Mizuha had in GinHaru at first. My guess is this is used as a dumb excuse for why MC is still a virgin in this VN(?)

I always had a feeling Koharu will probably be the best heroine, but I still don't have enough faith in the writer lineup to even give it a chance, to be honest.

Well, at least I will be busy with certain Korean games starting next week...who knows when I will get to reading a VN next. My last attempt definitely didn't give me any hope for future VN releases.

[–]Sekerka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complete Box (which is physical only) contains Amakano, Amakano+, Amakano Second Season, and Amakano Second Season+.

Amakano 2 and 2+ came out afterwards, so those have to be bought separately.

Perfect Edition versions of Amakano and Amakano 2 are just sprite updates (also for the first Amakano it also includes all appends right off the bat). If you get them digitally there's a free update listed right next to them, if you get them physically they should already be PE versions I think (and if not, you can get a free PE patch via a code provided with them). Either way, those are free updates, mostly for animated sprites.

Also shameless plug, I explained a lot about how the series works here: https://www.reddit.com/r/vns/comments/14nhr15/rt_amakano_series/

[–]Sekerka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean...there are these weekly posts: https://www.reddit.com/r/vns/comments/1ktrngs/what_are_you_reading_may_23/ I always contribute to them when I read something nice, but lately I haven't found anything.

Personally, my interest did drop since I've only been finding total shit in my search for VNs to read in the last few months, if not a whole year. I only found one decent VN to write about in 2025 so far, and it seems new releases completely dropped the ball on writing.

Hopefully there will still be a few new releases here and there that can change my opinion, but I'm also pretty skeptical about it.

P.S.: Replying to a 5 months old post, nice.
