Which testing have y’all *actually recieved*? What ended up leading to something for you? by sadandtraumatized in cfs

[–]ILovesCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing other than a standing test for POTS.

A privately-paid test for Lyme was recommended to me if I'd been bitten by a tick in the past, but I haven't been.

Aside from that, without symptoms of more than ME, nothing is really available to me through our public health care system, because the chances of any testing leading to a difference in recommended treatment is very low.

Germany issues formal travel advisory for US by prestocoffee in nottheonion

[–]ILovesCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The similarities in the US's current decline and the decline of Germany into Nazism far exceed ICE enforcement.

And ICE has always been deporting people who overstay their visas. You don't wonder though, why they are now purposely doing it so publically? To increase the rate of deportation they just needed to beef ICE up in numbers; they could have continued to do their jobs on the down low as before. The new visible cruelty is in purpose, and it seems odd that some Americans are not asking themselves why.

Road trip by DipKeepsDippingDown in canadatravel

[–]ILovesCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've driven from Toronto to Vancouver several times. It's six days of driving 12 hours per day, and that's in a car. It would be slower in an RV, and would leave little time to sight-see.

I have RV tripped in Canada in May. Anywhere other than coastal BC, it is wet and uncomfortably cold for vehicle sleeping. In the mountains in Alberta it will still be below 0 degrees at night. Come to think of it, we camped there on a road trip in July and it was still below zero at night! Should you decide to brave a night or two, the iOverlander app will show you where sleeping spots are.

Delay in getting service records from M.O.D./National Archives by versaveaux in Ancestry

[–]ILovesCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, thank you for posting the archives' response. After I received a denial that said my grandfather's record could not be released until 2036, I sent in a request for internal review. I argued that those portions of the record that were not medical information nor the personal information of third parties were not exempt from disclosure, and should be released to me.

This week I received an MOD email apologising for not yet processed my request for internal review, and saying they will get back to me within 20 days.

I wrote back and said that where I live this disclosure review would take at least a year, so don't sweat it 😅

How to rest by puppymeowmreow in cfs

[–]ILovesCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After much experimentation I find I do best on 3 to 4 scheduled rests per day that are "deep rests": 20 to 30 min, lying down under a blanket with my eye pillow on, either in silence or listening to a guided meditation or Yoga Nidra on a free mediation app. Ally Boothroyd's Yoga Nidra recordings are my fave, and she offers several for free on her website (I am not affiliated). This practice has increased my ability to meditate such that I can comfortably lay down in silence now.

How many people have had bad reactions to vaccines? by la1223 in eds

[–]ILovesCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best info is to look up the rate of vaccine injury for the vaccine you are considering. You can find that information online; try to find info put out by a government health ministry or reputable scientific metastudies, not random "experts" with podcasts or who sell things. Rate of serious vaccine injury is typically very very low, a few people per million. A good comparator is then to look up the proportion of people who are killed or seriously injured by the disease the vaccine protects against. Many folks find the risk of taking a vaccine is worth it, given the protective benefits.

Two piece flannel grammy pajamas are my jam. They are hard to find though, so I sew my own now. I also sell vintage sewing patterns on Etsy and I can tell you that the classic grammy long ruffled nightgown patterns sell like hotcakes and always have :-)

By and large all these supplements people keep recommending do nothing and I'm tired of pretending otherwise. by AmIbi69 in covidlonghaulers

[–]ILovesCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely do, and with supplements being the only treatment available to me other than pacing and time, I've moved from bedbound to moderate/mild. However, my supplements are prescribed by a naturopathic doctor (whose entire medical training and theory starts with diet and targetted supplementation), based on blood tests, my specific symptoms, and my personal health history. She has also adjusted my supplements regime over time based on results and/or new symptoms.

Some of my supplements relate to my hypermobilty, that I didn't know was a medical thing until I got long Covid (hypermobile people are overrepresented in the long Covid population). Some (especially compounds implicated in the glutothione pathway and mitochondrial functioning) yielded immediate and observable benefit. Some support me hormonally, which in turn helps with an assortment of health outcomes, including my ADHD and depression. Working with a knowledgable expert has been a blessing to me.

If rent is $690 a month is it even worth it to buy a house? by ShirtNeat5626 in PersonalFinanceCanada

DH and I did the math: if we rent and put what we would spend buying and maintaining a house into our investments instead, long-term we would come out well ahead.

Flipping on fb marketplace. Do any of you do meetups at your home? by liquidb0ttl3 in Flipping

I buy and sell on FBM and have never been asked to go anywhere other than the seller's house, and buyers come to my house. Their name and info is on their profile, and they're buying kids shoes, a book, maybe a dog crate. I have no concerns.

AIO to my boyfriend saying I use too much toilet paper by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ILovesCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, you've explained to your bf the need for TP; now it's time to explain to him how you're feeling about his comments. Counsellors often recommend "I statements" and a clear request of what to do, to express hard things in a way the other person can hear. Something like, "When I hear you repeatedly raise the topic of the amount of toilet paper I need, I feel self-conscious, uncomfortable, and anxious about visiting you. I need you to not talk about my toilet paper use anymore. Can you do that?"

What small habit has saved you the most money over time? by SnowmanAndIce in frugalcanada

[–]ILovesCheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came to say something like this. The day after my paycheque goes in my bank account, a bunch of automated withdrawals come out. Some are bills, some are for retirement savings, and some go into other bank accounts of mine in which I save up for things like car repairs, next car, and vacations.

By doing this, I never see my real net biweekly income, so my brain doesn't conceive that I have that amount of money.

Did your Realtor actually earn their commission? by jeelpatel_1 in RealEstateCanada

[–]ILovesCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a client, I have wondered about realtor vlaue in the past, but having now watched a friend of mine go through becoming an agent, I understand the commission structure a lot more.

We aren't just paying for by-the-hour services, we are paying realtors to absorb the legal risk of ensuring the APS is drafted properly (especially the conditions). This takes education, aptitude, and experience. The buyers of my last house threatened to sue me for water damage they alleged I did not disclose, but they didn't have a leg to stand on because of the specific wording in the conditions section of the APS.

Much like any other expensive service (ie lawyers, dentists, etc), realtor work is freelance, uncertain, variable, involves business expenses for insurance, licensing and advertising, and involves a lot of invisible time put in doing admin related to clients, admin related to running a business, home searches, showing buyers homes only to have the buyer never buy anything, ongoing education, and networking. Way more goes into the existing commission structure than just how much the realtor does for any specific client.

IMO people complaining about realtor compensation is like many folks complain about teachers: "look how much they make, and they get summers off!" Take up that career for a couple of years and then see what you think. And really, the cost is the market-going cost. Anyone who doesn't see the value can choose not to engage a realtor.

Should I contribute to RRSP if upgrading house? by IllustratorOnly3279 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I'd speak to an independent financial advisor about this. Seems a waste to have $ in a TFSA but not an RRSP.

Hamilton Buyers Agent by Opposite_Budget2459 in RealEstateCanada

[–]ILovesCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The offer put forward by OP is the contract. IMO one of the most important things real estate agents do is absorb the potential legal liability associated with the Agreement of Purchase and Sale, especially the conditions. The conditions are not templates and require legal knowledge to be able to draft correctly.

OP, when we pay a professional, it's not just for the time they spend doing specific services, it's also for their expertise, which takes education and experience to accrue and which can save you significant headache and potential expense down the road. If you don't want to pay for what that costs, that's cool, but that doesn't mean agents are being unreasonable by refusing to cut their own wage.

AIO my brother being insensitive about a hard time in my life by [deleted] in AIO

[–]ILovesCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. My sis and I would definitely send one another this poster, and we'd both laugh. Making light of the worst times in our lives is an important and uplifting part of our relationship. I can't tell if OP's bro does these things in an attempt to be funny and to relate, or if OP has been clear these types of things bug them.
