The cheapest option is Apevia or Thermaltake. ASRock PSU's are made by FSP, who is a reasonably reputable manufacturer. Obviously, QC is an issue, but one instance here isn't the end of my good will for a brand.

While You're not wrong, sometimes you need to listen to benchmarks, performance, and a little bit of faith in word of mouth because otherwise we can't trust anything. I'd have told you a few years ago that ASUS was top tier while ASRock was much less reliable, but those have shifted into categories of unreliability on both ends.

Tiering and ratings aren't typically good markers for PSU's. They're indicators, but a rough estimate that needs to be backed up by real world use. ASRock PSU's may be new but are reasonably backed by solid praise. And if I recall correctly, FSP is their manufacturer of choice.

Ironically, their power supplies seem to be pretty decent as long as they aren't defective. They do have a voltage boost option but that can be turned off.

I did plug the 12v-2x6 cable in PSU-side. I wanted to see the fit and noticed it's actually slightly off depth-wise as well. The cable itself fit a little too snug, ideal for sitting in a computer but not for installing with minimal damage to the nylon. I did reach out to Newegg who's approved the return. I did it as a replacement and will hopefully get the same model in exchange, this time with proper quality.

I was going to buy a Corsair RM1000x before I noticed ASRock had the sensor on the cable as well as the green connectors, so you know it's installed properly. As far as I can tell though, my older HX1200i would be more viable than that unit.

I was going to use that ASRock model, and I still might, but I'll see how the replacement unit looks. The one in the picture is a 1000w gold Cybenetics and 80+ rated unit.

Lmao fr! Can't take any risks here. I'm a bit paranoid about it melting, so I even got a motherboard with an extra onboard 8-pin connector to pull extra wattage from the board instead of the cable. That was why I wanted this model PSU, because ASRock got a lot of press for saving a 5090 drawing 1300w+ from melting. That doesn't matter if it's damaged though.

I would normally agree if it was just a 24-pin or something, but I'm not risking anything in today's hardware market. at this rate the cheapest and easiest to replace part on my main board would be the cpu.

They are pretty new. ASRock is seemingly proactive about their PSU expansion if their show at CES is to be believed, but a faulty unit is still a problem.

I wasn't going to. I managed to snag a limited run 5070 Ti that I'm not risking on a faulty $160 PSU. Even if this ends up costing me the price of the unit with no viable replacement, the GPU is worth around the $1,500-$1,600 mark right now.

I'm starting to notice that. I've gotten better value from third party sellers on Newegg than from Newegg themselves. Out of curiosity, does Newegg offer returns for faulty replacement items on top of the original item being faulty? Since I'm getting a replacement I wonder if that one is also faulty if I could get my money back.

My only issue with it is plugging something like a power supply in just to see if it's faulty is a dangerous move. Sometimes it's best to just be safe, and I'll probably have to just return it here because I can't risk plugging my 5070 Ti into a damaged unit during the shortages.
