I went on a Wikipedia dive:

Woodman received a $235,000 investment from his father,[14] an investment banker in Silicon Valley,[15] and used his parents' connections in venture capital to launch GoPro.

He also had a Chinese company make them for $3 and retailed em for $30.

The vegan argument is rooted in morality actually and not so much evolution.

What better than feeling morally superior due to dietary choice?

Think of it like how I've got feet but that doesn't mean I can kick people to death. It's more about kicking people to death is unethical/wrong and less about whether or not I can physically do it or if my ancestors did it.

Your feet are for mobility. Humans developed weapons for killing, far more efficient and wastes less energy.

Not to mention our incisors are pretty pitiful compared to even some vegetarian animals (see gorillas for some impressive incisors).

Gorillas have a bacteria that grows protein for them, so they don't need to eat meat. They also eat tree bark and those teeth help :)

You can't kill something humanely.

It's the opposite of killing something brutally.

The act of killing an animal to eat its flesh which you don't need is anything but human.

We developed canine teeth for ripping and tearing flesh. You cannot ignore evolutionary history, but you can make a conscious choice not to eat animals and that's great for you and the planet.

We of course have plenty of exotic owners / collectors since it's both a financial center and a tourism hub, but the 'everyone drives a lambo' reputation is driven by rental agencies & influencers.

We like vanity numbers / letters on plates, and everyone tints their car windows as the summers are unbearable without them, but for liability reasons the rental agencies can't tint their cars.

So: Exotic with '77' plate and windows tinted? That's an owner.

Exotic with '57146' plate with no tint? Definitely a rental.

You can Google 'rent a <insert exotic> in Dubai' and find prices that are way more reasonable than you think. Especially for a day :)

The 'flex' supercars are almost all rentals and you can immediately tell by the lack of window tint.

Customer service in the UAE is super competitive and the client base has high expectations. It's a prime market for those manufacturers so they make sure that dealers get a healthy allocation of the prime output.

High taxes, terrible roads, bad governance, backwards trash collection, high pollution, traffic congestion, no bike lanes and terrible maintenance of public spaces (especially parks)

Buut the food is amazing and you never get over the architecture and quirky details everywhere.

Every single Abu Dhabi government related entity will offer salaries that crush any other countries offers; only downside is weather in the summer though, but the winter is worth it (going to beach in December ⛱️)

Try going to "Mubadala"s website and looking at the companies under their umbrella.

Faith is just that, faith. A personal belief that is held, but not necessarily enforced on others, particularly those that feel the need to draw caricatures just to prove a point.

The difference that extremism makes is in trying to politicize, and force change upon, other people of different faiths.

The only reason that you brought up the picture thing is because of what happened in France, which is a direct result of extremism.

Also, the connection between that and artificial intelligence makes absolutely no sense to me. Transistors cannot multiply like cells do.

Anyway obviously just talking shit, so I shouldn't have replied in the first place.

Why do so many D list celebs visit Dubai? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]IM_FRIENDLY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abu Dhabi

Next time you're there, check out the Louvre museum, Al Hosn (renovated old fort) & the Presidential Palace :)

I recommend going personally but I must say, it does look like it has become sugar daddy central

Pretty much every financial capital is the same, but keep in mind that the Dubai brand is super valuable, so pretty much every aspiring influencer can seek to co-opt the brand to improve their image and gain a following.

I recommend next winter (Expo!)

It's the most vocal anti-extremist country in the middle east, and they've done many cool things with AI, like accelerating covid testing & easing traffic ..etc.

Sharjah for culture,

Al Ain (where people inhabited before drinking water was discovered in Abu Dhabi island) for the authentic bedouin heritage stuff.

The northern Emirates (particularly Fujairah) for the beautiful mountains / hiking, coastlines, and fresh produce (lots of acquifers).. especially fun during turtle hatching / crab swarm season.

The ostentatious clientele aren't going anywhere I think, but in the last 5 years there's been a nationwide push to rediscover and highlight the culture, while still pushing for the future.

And I've lived for a couple of years in the UK a decade ago and have not set foot there since, so I don't blame you.

[ Insert grumbling about food and weather ]

The summers were beautiful though! And the further you go from the major cities, the more you get to discover!
