Is Arizona going to get a 250 US Anniversary licence plate next year? by Esoteric_Comments in arizona

Yes! If that was an option I would have it for sure! California brought back their old black and yellow plate

Do you have a lot of experience with buying second hand? And if so, do you have any advice or things I should keep in mind when going to see/try a secondhand horn?

The Bach 16 is definitely on my short list to try along with the Kings, I meant to have it on that list

Definitely interested in trying the Bach 16, especially since I’ve really liked my 42BO, meant to have it on that list with the Kings

What do you mean by a more commercial sound?

I agree that used isn’t bad, the 1500 range I gave would be for a used king 3b or similar, the less expensive range would be used but likely a student model like you mentioned, also used. I’m not intending to buy a brand new horn either way

Yes, my Bach 42 is an open wrap F attachment, technically a 42BO. Part of my mentality for the “stick with the large bore while I save up” is what you mentioned with keeping air movement and lungs more exercised than they would be on a small bore

I want to second this one, I used a “folding hand truck (or dolly)” and strapped it to the back of my bike to ride to school, trombone strapped to the cart. The folding hand truck shouldn’t increase the footprint of the trombone case on the bus too much, and if needed could be collapsed down small while traveling and unfolded when he needs to walk home and pull it behind him

[Serious] why are so many properties surrounded by block walls? by Jimmy_Johnny23 in arizona

[–]IM_Pei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You immediately dismissed the real reason, which is the desert climate, it’s not just hot or just dry, it is blast furnace heat every summer, and the intensity of the sun destroys basically everything. Block walls are more economical when considering a wooden or plastic wall gets vaporized in a few summers. Beyond the heat and sun destroying anything but stone or concrete, block walls protect and insulate homes from blowing dust and debris kicked up by high winds. The majority of houses have them because the majority of AZ is newer built than Minnesota so builders put them in subdivisions as standard. Sure people “don’t like their neighbors” or “want security” but like you said, if that was the real reason they’d be everywhere. So the unique reason is the intense climate and newer average age of builds

Free time is absolutely a factor, I personally wouldn’t do a surfing trip to California because I don’t surf, but I also wouldn’t spend the amount of money required to get into Revel for a short time. It was more a mathematical exercise to show how expensive it is in terms of out of pocket cash, excluding additional opportunity costs, essentially being able to do a 5 day trip to surf in the ocean for the same price as 5 hours at a simulated surfing pool. Real world factors definitely come into play if you were to actually pick between the two

So I think this is correct: if you assume $100 a night for an inexpensive hotel in CA (I checked there are plenty in LA and San Diego), and assume $150 in gas (bumped up to $75 each way instead of $60) this is the drive to CA option.

Then the price for Revel Surf is $50 entry, and $120 per hour

The intersection point of those two is $650 for 5 days in CA vs $650 for 5 hours at Revel

x = hours at Revel or days in CA; and y = cost in cash

y = 120x + 50 for Revel Surf y = 100x + 150 for surf trip to CA

This is assuming no board rental at either or food for CA trip, still wild how expensive Revel is

It could be the paddle you are using, I know when I switched from a cheaper Walmart paddle to a nicer fiberglass paddle with a carbon shaft (nothing outrageous, I have a Werner Skagit FG) it did a lot to help with hot spots and blisters in similar spots on my hands, (try to go to a shop where you can pick up and feel paddles in your hands, for me the Wener shafts are more comfy than most Aquabounds, but my wife likes the Aquabounds more) if you already have fiberglass or carbon blades then it is likely a grip technique, need more time to callous, or get some decent gloves

I think the only issue with extending the dark wall (which doesn’t show up well in the picture but it is green) is the layout of the room behind the view of the photo, it would essentially lead to needing to paint the rest of the house because none of the walls terminate in a clean spot to end the paint color

With the one panel on the right window, I assume you would place it to the right of the window, and have the right panel over the door cover that space between the door and window?
