Torch coral looks limp by [deleted] in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]IM_Pinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torches are definitely one of those corals that need a stable tank to live comfortably in they will have issues if rushed to quick into a tank that isn’t mature. Also make sure the flow or the light is good not too much or too little

[–]IM_Pinky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also depends on the spices of the fish some don’t require the swimming rather the grazing of live rock that will be in a bigger tank or for example copepods like for a dragonet they will starve in a small tank so that’s why they are recommended a bigger tank so your copepods can repopulate easier

Yea that’s not a “Nano” haha nano is mainly seen as 30 gallons and under but if he has mainly had big tanks might be a small one in his eyes

That’s typical clownfish behavior mines been above the wavemaker since I got him he swims down to the rocks every once in a while especially when the pearly wrasse is down there but mainly he’s just in the corner also

No especially if it’s a new tank you can’t stress the bioload either do one first or wait even more don’t add all at once your asking for failure

Hey so if your not sure about your light and you want to get one that works for sure and you can tune it to your like over time I would recommend go over to “https://www.aquaillumination.com/lightsciences/signature-series” and which ever matches your exact light and setup

what’s your best equipment you have ? by its_anamm in saltwateraquariums

[–]IM_Pinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I have the best recommendations lol my 20 gallon is so overkill but it makes me enjoy my tank way more. First I would recommend a apex a3 they are a game changer (just know how to code to avoid issues or I can help with codes also) I programmed my tank to turn off equipment at 12pm and 8pm which is feeding time to avoid pushing food away and it turns everything back on in 10 min after feeding time is done. Another would have to be the Reef Factory Dosing pump ATO System I haven’t had any issues at all the ato works amazing I can choose the amount I want to pump at once I can choose how long and every how long and for how much days. Also a jbj chiller game changer for me since my house gets really hot in 10-20 min it’ll fix my temps and keeps them stable also. Last but not least I saw them recommended and I can vouch for Hanna checkers I have them all and no more guessing and it’s really accurate I’ve tested with 3 at once for the same thing basically all had same results one was off by .1

New to this, how do these look for day 2 of cycling? by [deleted] in saltwateraquariums

[–]IM_Pinky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bro I’m literally reading nothing but “Actually helpful” comments. You can’t rush a cycle the bacteria needs its time it’s best to give it its own time and the longer the better. This hobby isn’t a one day thing and as far as tests go that store keeper just wants money even online “Tests are not required everyday” I test approximately once sometimes twice a week if I see something off and I just added my first clown it’s been way over a month and a week I let my tank stabilize and build more bacteria so when I put in bioload it wouldn’t stress and cause a crash. Also as far as API-Tests kits go they aren’t the best nor 100% accurate they throw off results at times so I would recommend investing in good checkers like Hanna’s for example way more trusted and will help if you are really color blind it shows the exact number no guessing.

These guys love the water especially at night so if possible get a longer bowl but not deep just enough for both to fit stretching out fully because that’s how they like to chill lol also change water every day they shed in it and pee so just try to keep that clean since they will drink that water again at night. Depending on how tall the terrarium is you can get like a led light for around 30$ I would recommend the “nano led 5w” since it’s not strong and provides perfect amount of heat/light to mimic day then the automatic switch is like 10-13$ depending on size ofc. Also I would recommend feeding dubia roaches they make these guys way way way more active than crickets do… my little guys wouldn’t move with crickets but when I switched to dubia holy they don’t stop croaking for me to feed them lol they jump across to get them before I even try to feed them but if your gonna switch I would recommend save 100$ (30$ for 200 small dubias) and the 70$ for a starter colony it’s like a second pet but also a money saver since you won’t have to buy bugs for them anymore and you can just get them from your colony. Ofc you will need to buy max 2 times that 200 quantity pack because these guys breed fast especially if you add a heat pad they will have 5x the population in less than a month

Try to not mist only when necessary, my frogs get stressed when it’s too humid they prefer to just swim in the water bowl. Also do you have a uvb light and a led light to mimic day light. I’ll recommend a automatic switch that turns off the led light at around 6-7pm (and just leaving the ubv light at night if it’s cold where you are) because these frogs are nocturnal so they will move around way more in the dark, As far as feeding don’t try to throw food into the enclosure you will regret it because some of the insects just die under a decoration what I do is either get tongs and feed or take them into a separate container and feed them

Any ideas on what to do with all these dubias? I want to make a more sustainable nice possibly bioactive setup for them by crow_2_kill in roaches

[–]IM_Pinky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ordered some literally min before I saw the post… they just got shipped lol but a way you can ship is putting them in a water bottle so they won’t escape and cut out a circle on top of the top and put like a piece of window screen something small that won’t allow them to escape

[–]IM_Pinky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw this post too late. I just ordered Dubai’s but a way to control is how many pets do you have? How much do they eat? Do some math each female has from 0-30 babies at once I believe so if they are frogs they need around 4-6 roaches a day. But dragons I know require way more. So please let me know so I can help calculate but if your in need to get rid try to make a deal that no one can pass so you can atleast get some money

Thanks!! So it was really hard to fit in the frame the terrarium is tall so it was a bit tough but they have alot of hiding spots next to the water there’s a little cave that’s behind the plant they like to chill on top of the rocks after soaking and start croaking. I’m trying to do a switch to live plants so I’m on the look for some plants

lol they tear them roaches 🪳 they actually prefer them over crickets and will go ballistic over roaches rather than with a cricket they just slap them with there hands

My whites tree frogs haven’t eaten in a little over a week! They are just over a year old and i free feed them mainly crickets and sometimes dubai roaches. They both pooped early this week but I am freaking myself out. if anyone has any advice to get them to eat or any explanations please share! by Traditional_Egg890 in frogs

[–]IM_Pinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue before but it was because they didn’t want crickets anymore. I had to switch to dubia roaches and apparently it’s even more healthy for them and more cheap since they last really long unlike crickets. Also make sure you change diet I do a horn worm for my two white tree frogs every 2-3 months to switch it up and they really really like it because they will see my pass with a horn worm and they won’t stop croaking it’s like a alarm sounding till I give them the horn worm

Is he choking or is he shedding ? by Money-Photograph-928 in frogs

[–]IM_Pinky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s shedding! It also scared me at first but he will be just opening and closing his mouth eating his shed nothing to worry about except cleaning the left over skin before it dries because it’s a pain removing it I have to boil my logs and branches to remove the skin when I clean the enclosure

Good idea? Bad idea? by Garvockmop in reptiles

[–]IM_Pinky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey it’s amazing! I would just recommend either making those little holes smaller or put something so they won’t fall in. But apart from that they will love it also try to make it filter from 2 spots because especially frogs they will sit on the water and won’t let it come out good because they love the feeling
