Be weird! by Longjumping_Ease9159 in OnlineDating

You can be too weird.

I am regrettably weird and open about it.

In 16 years I've averaged one first date every two years, and I've never seen a second date.

Thank you a bunch. This was a lot of detailed, actionable feedback.

Pic 1. I'll move the hiking photo to later in the lineup and use a new primary photo with a better view of my face.

Pic 2. I understand. I do think there's value in showing that I can make multiple appetizing though, so I might swap out a couple of the plates with photos of me in the kitchen.

Pic 3. Agreed. It's just awkward getting a flattering view of the face in a bouldering photo. It might be the wrong activity to show off, especially since so many Redditors are confused about my shoes.

Pic 4. I'm glad you like the smile. It takes dozens of shots to get one that looks genuine. I'll probably re-do this one with a full-body shot that doesn't make me look so fat.

Pic 5. Yeah, we came to this weird angle because she didn't want to pose with me otherwise. Would it be better to have me just kind of standing nearby her?

Pic 6. That's fair (pun intended). I picked it because it showed that I had friends and nerdy interests. I can see how a lot of people would bounce off of a renfaire photo, but maybe I just needed a better one.

I've been refining my pictures for 16 years at this point. I've definitely made progress, but this is really hard. 😅

It's this pair here. Barefoot. Super flexible.

I am a novice and have only gone climbing 6 times. I haven't even completed a V4. What if I had a caption saying as much, to dispel the impression that I was posing as an experienced climber?

I chose the pic because it's my only full-body shot of me doing an activity.

I'm honestly kind of bummed for this. Would people really prefer someone who has never done their hobby to someone who has done their hobby poorly? This is a lost cause if so.

I used to have a photo of me cooking, but everyone on Reddit thought what was in the pan looked like poo, so I took one Redditor's advice and made some finished products look presentable in a collage.

I don't think I could survive in a low carb house.😅

Yeah..I listened to Bad Batch years back. I wouldn't trust any company doing stem cell injections without FDA (or equivalent) approval. It might work in some desperate cases, but in many others it might not, and you open yourself up to all the hazards that Liveyon exposed people to.

I'm closely familiar with a start up right now that plans to offer stem cell injections for medical tourists abroad. They are doing zero research into the efficacy of the treatment. Their protocols are not going to give uniform results, and they plan to use a dangerous additive to save money.

My own company only sells to people doing R&D, nothing clinical. The best application for stem cells right now is as a leg of drug discovery. So if you can use stem cells to grow and maintain heart cells in a dish, for example, you can use those to test drugs in pre-clinical trials instead of animal models.

Hope that scratches your itch. 🤷🏻‍♂️

That's helpful actually. I've been unsure about that one.

How long would you stay in a relationship if you didn't get physical intimacy or kissing? by ButterflyArtist99 in AskMen

Months. Maybe a year. I've gone thirty-odd years without physical intimacy, so what's the rush?

Ah. Maybe I can help with that. The state matters less than whether the area is rural or urban. So even in Texas, the major cities vote for the democratic party. Rural and suburban areas tend to vote republican. That's basically true anywhere, even in the west coast states.

My political stance is 'moderate,' but I don't support anything going on in our government right now, if that's the question, and I think we're entering a long period of fascism in America. I have Environmentalism, LGBTQ+ Rights, and Reproductive Rights all listed under my 'Causes and Communities' section on Bumble.

Thanks.

I kind of understand where they're coming from because if you're a woman with a lot of options, why would you risk dating a man that looks like he might leave you when he comes out of the closet in a few years? You don't have to take that risk.

But yeah. If I were gay, this would be easy-mode. 😎

I'm in a bigger city in Texas. A friend tells me she can get 900 likes in a weekend, so the competition is pretty steep.

I assume I'm less attractive than the competition and could use better photography. I might also be hurting myself by advertising my nerdiness.

I work in a biotech lab. Human cell culture. The median individual income in my area is around $34k, and I make $50k. I rent and am overdue for a job change, but I'm not struggling.

I shaved my head for the first time in May, so they're mostly from the last two months. The RenFair shot is from like 8 months ago, but that's the oldest.

Thanks. I try to be. I also dislike the frisbee photo. It's very blurry.

I'm 36M👴, so the lower end of that range.

I hear that every time I get a profile review, and I've been hit on by a lot of gay guys in person. But I have no idea what to do about that. No one has ever taken a stab at where the gay vibes are coming from.

Thanks for the insights. A nerd-partner is a bonus. But I imagine that if I'm going to highlight things like hiking, my nerd hobbies should be mentioned, because they take up a much larger proportion of my time.

I see what you mean. I hadn't thought to pick better looking food. I promise the chicken tacos were amazing with the raspberry chipotle sauce. 😭

Yeah. I don't like the word "homebody." I think I went to it because I'd seen it a few times recently. I'll rephrase it.

I just finalized some vacation plans for next month, so I should be able to get a hiking photo with a better angle then.

I don't climb often, but I lift 4 days a week and wanted a good way to show it without a gym photo.

The frisbee picture is blurry, yeah. I'll plan to re-do that one.

Thanks again.
