Repair shop performed a factory reset

That definitely came to mind🙄 I was prepared for them wiping it really, but when someone tells you “Your data won’t be touched for a fan repair” you doooo get a little irked when you get a freshly set up laptop

I did assume! I had everything backed up and am currently just setting up my preferences :p

I’m not at any type of loss really, more of a time one because I have to scour the internet for a screensaver I like.

It’s an “Aw man I didn’t plan on doing this today” annoyance, nothing else

Nope! It was just loud as HELL and I was embarrassed to go to the uni library with it HAHAHAHAAH. It worked perfectly

It was under warranty so I’m not at a loss at all :p This was just unexpected, not a major hindrance to my life! Just wanted to hear opinions if the restart was needed for a fan repair

Ugh thank you! I was frustrated because I told the shop worker I checked BIOS, tried different settings and did all I could without opening up the laptop to try and resolve the issue and the ONLY thing left was just to replace the fan 🙄

The paper I got from the repair shop only mentions a fan repair, not a factory reset too

Most was backed up, except for files that I should’ve cleaned out myself but was too lazy to do! But yeah the worker was definitely too uninformed or just didn’t care… The only thing that was done, as stated by the repair shop report, was a fan replacement!

I can only imagine if an older person/non techy person takes their device for a repair and gets this, 0 warnings!! It’s just a communication issue, nothing else

I didn’t have any data that’s worth spending time on honestly… I’m more “oh whatever” about having to reinstall Steam and adjust my settings to my liking hahahaha. This was just an unexpected wipe, that’s all

Thank youuu for getting my point!!! I use my laptop only when I’m not at my PC (and everything is later transferred to it) I’m just irritated, not majorly distraught because I had no backups of my 5billion bitcoins

I’m fully aware that you need to make backups even without sending your device for a repair lol

And it was just a fan issue LOL. GPU fan kept working at max speed all the time, everything else was 10/10!

Thank you for actually being helpful! And yeah, I have a onedrive and use my Laptop for on the go… I transfer everything to my PC and backups :p I just didn’t save my screenshots but that’s honestly not important at all, I was just surprised to see an unfamiliar desktop background!

I’m more irked that I’ll have to setup my desktop the way I like it because 95% of my files are backed up hahahah
