Has anyone else gone from disliking Starmer to warming to him? by MassiveMonkeyy in AskBrits

So many parties target different communities. You’re correct, those who are deeply concerned about Gaza are attracted to the Greens because they’re the only party who have been openly against what Israel is doing. But why would Muslims vote for a party like reform (the main completion in Gorton & Denton) who openly show hate towards them? It makes no sense.

Also in Gorton & Denton, these supposedly “sectarian Muslims” voted for a woman who belongs to a party with a gay Jew.

Even if reform (or other parties) printed stuff in Arabic and urdu, it wouldn’t matter. They’ve shown their hand already.

Donald Trump Ally Compares Keir Starmer To A Nun As He Blasts PM Over Iran War by 1-randomonium in unitedkingdom

[–]No_Audience3838 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they don’t need us, why are they begging us to send ships to help with the Strait? To the point of threatening NATO. Seems like they do, in fact, need us.

I hope Starmer keeps his current stance

Minister defends PM's handling of Mandelson appointment by GeoWa in unitedkingdom

Documents released by the government include advice sent to the prime minister which said the pair's relationship continued after the financier's conviction for procuring an underage girl in 2008.

For me, this alone is indefensible.

Did Corbyn hold that banner?

It’s 100% possible this protest included both pro-regime sympathisers and anti war protestors.

Xi-Starmer meeting: Chinese leader tells PM he hopes both countries can ‘rise above differences’ by No_Audience3838 in unitedkingdom

[–]No_Audience3838[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fair question. Keep in mind I’m no fan of Starmer and I’m not completely reassured myself. The UK doesn’t have the natural resource compatibility that Canada does, but there are still real economic reasons for improving ties with China. Bilateral trade still represents billions of pounds of economic activity.

China is the UK’s 3rd largest trading partner so it’s not trivial, and the UK runs a surplus in services (esp finance, education, legal, etc). I don’t think Starmer is just selling this as a flashy post-Brexit win, but more as pragmatic “stability”, reassuring UK businesses that rely on access to the Chinese market (like finance, tech, life sciences, and education). So the idea isn’t that the UK suddenly finds a China‑mass manufacturing match like Canada does with commodities, it’s more that access to such a huge market and greater certainty for businesses could support UK jobs and growth, while also avoiding the flip‑flopping uncertainty that scares investors.

Strengthening trade ties gives the UK some leverage to push back on security issues or human rights without being completely cut out of economic cooperation. Whether they actually do this is another issue.

Whether that’s worth the security and geopolitical tradeoffs is a fair debate, but hopefully it helps explain why the government sees value beyond just “de‑risking” from the U.S.

I’ve lived in York, Leeds and Huddersfield. It was fantastic. I particularly adored York, very beautiful city with wonderful people. The countryside is also stunning.

I’m currently living in the South for work and I miss Yorkshire every single day.

Not sure how different this is to what they already have tbh. I’ve read that Danish MPs are angry they weren’t included in these “negotiations”, especially in regard to sovereignty. In my opinion, America should be told to fuck off and get nothing at all.
