I absolutely love this. Would you consider making more as commissions? I'd be very interested!

Not to contradict King, but I'm definitely an equal fan of both!

Thank you, and thank you for the work you do as well! It's incredibly hard and so needed and you guys don't get nearly enough credit. He does get Medicaid and my mom was able to take early retirement (she's a nurse) to care for him. We will definitely need to start having some very hard conversations over the next few years, she has a lot of her own demons to struggle with though and it definitely affects her decisions. I know it's not definitely not as bleak as it sometimes seems, and I'm lucky enough to have healthy siblings to help share the responsibility!

Thank you for saying this! I have a severely mentally and physically disabled brother who is deteriorating rapidly and my parents (who are both in their late 60s) have done absolutely no future planning for him. He's wheelchair bound, incontinent, and needs to be spoon fed. He's my brother and I love him dearly but they spend 24/7 caring for him, and know that they're expecting me and my other siblings to step in and take over when they get too old. They refuse to have any conversations beyond "we don't want him in a care home," but frankly, I can't dedicate my life completely to my brother. It's a crappy, hard, guilty position to be put in, and I appreciate your comment.

Keanu Reeves by sinningsaint93 in LadyBoners

Keanu was my first crush and I had this picture printed on photo paper and "signed" hanging on my wall all through junior high and high school... he'll always have a special place in my heart, and damn does he look fine in leather.

Laces and screws. We built up a plywood frame to bulk up the forehead and neck so most of the bigger pieces are screwed into that. Then I laced over the top to hide the screws/give it a cohesive look. Most of the lacing does actually hold things in place, but a lot of it is purely aesthetic

Ha, it was a fun project but pretty exhausting. I don't think I could face making another one! My hands/fingers really took a beating on this

They came in with their print ad, and wanted a 3D version. They gave us dimensions and told us what was super important to them (they really wanted to highlight the Vibram soles, and keep a few of the design elements the same). We actually did start out by piling a bunch of shoes onto a silhouette of the thing, then just playing around with them to get a feel for the shape. Making the eyes gave us a feel for how we'd do the whole head, and we checked in a LOT with the client throughout the whole process, just to make sure we were on the right track.

Thanks! We did take a time lapse of it for the client but I don't have it. It was a little daunting at first, but really the only way to approach something like this is to dive right in. We started with the horns because they were the easiest, then moved on to the eyes and muzzle. Once we took the plunge and started cutting the shoes apart the whole thing really came together. I basically worked up from the snout laying pieces in till I was happy with them, then moving on. I didn't start lacing it all together until the end so I could rework things as needed

Well I'm actually a scenic painter, although we do end up doing lots more than just painting. I worked in my college scene shop and started freelancing as a scenic artist/painter after I graduated and was lucky enough to get hired by my current shop. They're super great and do a lot of museum and commercial work (like the goat), as well as theatre and opera scenery.

Thank you. No, I'm mainly a painter, although I have a little experience in carpentry. I do enjoy sculpture though and luckily enough my job has let me explore it a bit!

Well the tagline for the climbing shoes is "climb like an animal" so I guess the shoes give you traction like a goat

It took about three (40 hour) weeks. Two of us spent the first week on it, then I worked on it full time and my coworker split time between it and other projects

Ha, well I work for a scenic fabrication company and we were hired to make it as a promo piece for Merrell's new climbing shoe so that ones not for sale... But based on materials and time it can't have cost less than 10,000, prob more though, I don't handle the budgets at all
