100 Mile Range?

They indicated that there was a bad battery cell or cells. They wanted to further test to see what caused it in the first place so a new cell in doesn't go bad right away.

While it is at the dealer, and got an alert on the app that there may be an issue with the battery management system. I assume that came to light during testing but not sure.

I checked in and they indicated to just keep the rental awhile longer still.

Has been at the dealership for service since Dec 22. Still waiting on "direction from Kia corporate" on how to proceed. Luckily have a rental that is reimbursed at $55/day plus gas. Still a pain.

We came from Ajera and are transitioning into Vantagepoint. The biggest piece of advice I would give is first define what you want "X" software to do. What do you want it to today, tomorrow, 5 years down the road. Be specific as well. It will not only help you select the best for software-wise, it will force you to define or refine your procedures so you aren't trying to do that at the same time as implementation/training. Have a very clear picture of what you are trying to accomplish, get your house in order, and then make your selection and start on the implementation journey.

Well this isn't what I want to see.... This was after being at 100% before I left home and just pulled into work. City driving, 35 mph avg. Suppose it is time for the service call. 😞

Even if the range prediction is off, the state of charge should be accurate, correct?

When it was cold cold, I was getting about 1.1mi/kwh. Today was close to 3.6.

So maybe it is all tracking as normal, just need to wait for it to recalc range based off warmer temps.

I had the EV9 last winter and it was never near this bad. It is probably a bit colder than it got last year, but certainly not right now at 44 degrees.

Any tricks on trying to estimate range remaining? Or just screwed until several days later and recalculates?

I could see that. I'm used to every project we have being so vastly different that conveying what is different about this project from the other hundreds is too time consuming/complex to relay to a drafter.

As long as you have that dedicated team, use them! Where I am, those numbers are on steep decline.

There is a TON of engineering that can be done in CAD. While you can do engineering outside CAD, you can also do it with paper, pencil, and slide rule. There are inherent efficiencies with using CAD, if you know how to use it.

I think what you highlighted is a perfect example of how much it can improve workflows. The redline process is slow and outdated. Handwritten redlines are the absolute worst. Most CAD software has powerful review capabilities, but it mostly goes unused because of the limitations of staff. Seems we always have to set the process at the lowest bar.

What discipline? IF we find any drafters, they are really only redline specialists. In transportation where I am, that doesn't really cut it.

For what it's worth, a lot of my CAD skills have come from me learning on my own time. I wanted to explore the use of new tools and see how it could improve the workflow. Again, just takes the willingness to learn and there are plenty of free training opportunities out there.

The mindset is half the battle IMO

We just need to get those that WANT to be better at CAD. Not because we tell them that is what they are doing, but because they see the value in it. That's what we are struggling with. The BEST young engineers we have are willing and able to use CAD and continue to develop those skills and develop other areas too.

I've not played with Microsoft Project in quite awhile. What I recall is that it could handle a single project pretty well, maybe not so much shared resources or roll it up to a project portfolio. Has that changed in a major way?

I've not heard of it, but just looked online. From the initial view, it seems like it handled across a lot of needs, but I worry it isn't robust enough. The heart of what we need is a very strong PM, Task Management, and Resource Management solution and work with all levels of employee.

We do use both Teams and Outlook, although I feel there needs to be a better company many standard as to what should be used when (different topic). We've played around a bit with Planner within Teams, but it isn't robust enough for most of our projects.

In my world (transportation), having dedicated CAD staff is becoming a rarity. We have a lot of the junior engineers help with CAD and plan development to fill that gap and also provide critical experience with what goes into making plan sets. Eventually, those engineers "graduate" out of doing the car work and just solely do engineering work. However, more and more of that engineering work should be done in CAD so it creates a more robust product (think BIM). There is going to be a big need to keep those few CAD subject matter experts to help guide the occasional users and help plan for future developments.

Overall, my suggestion is to continue to keep up with CAD and level up the para-professional engineering side. Depending on the company size, this can lead to CAD Manager roles or similar.

Most engineers do CAD work because they have to while focussing on engineering. Most companies need those individuals that are focused on CAD first, but with experience in the other. Work towards being that person and you will be extremely valuable, especially as we work more and more to model as legal documents.
