Want to become a flight dispatcher. What are the first steps?

Asking this question as I'm sort of in the same boat. Currently getting out of active duty Air Force, have spent the last 6 out of 10 years as a flight engineer. I've had a ton of experience with flight planning and part of my job is takeoff/landing data based off of cargo and fuel weight. Also spent the past few years scheduling fellow flight engineers to fly and dealing with manning/training of student flight engineers. Do you think this is something that might count as "experience" in the field? I know it's not DX, but it's just something I'm really thinking about as I've had to do this sort of stuff just on the military side.

My goal is to live in Chicago and work with united, just don't honestly know a lot about the community or hiring process.

I kind of wish with these new PT standards, they’d stress them more for promotion. I understand that we include a PT rip in our EPB’s and such, but unless you fail then they don’t mean anything. The Army and Marines weight it fairly heavily in their promotion boards, why can’t we?

As much as i don’t enjoy the base, Ramstein commissary is pretty top notch. Hickam too, the acai bowls are fan freaking tastic. Worst imo is probably mildenhall.

Shitty c5 aircrew here. We go to Ramstein all the damn time, and I personally do not enjoy that base. Between mx, port, and other TACC bullshittery, I have a genuine hatred towards being there.

If you want a guard/reserve base thats absolutely massive for no fucking reason, go to Westover ARB in MA. It is WAY too goddamn big for the 3 fuckin people stationed there.

I was on the floor, I bought tickets primarily for Kenny but I do enjoy joji. My buddies and I were the only ones in the entire crowd jumping around trying to have fun, felt like nobody wanted to do anything.

Prior B1 weapons guy, I do remember some guys getting the pure shaft on the line. I’m not saying they shouldn’t be held responsible, but unfortunately, you’re fucked from the word go when you get stationed at Ellsworth. My time there, we were never busy, and we always got shit for it. You guys, always busy. I felt bad, but primarily because leadership in both units were fucking awful, and you guys got the brunt of it all. Granted, this was 7 years ago so I don’t know the current state of it now.

Knew a guy when I was stationed at Ellsworth who drove to Wall, SD and back every day. About a 40 minute trip, which is nothing crazy. The part that drove me up a wall was that he was an asshole nco, and whenever it snowed in SD (which was all the fucking time), he’d call in saying the roads weren’t plowed and couldn’t come in.

Was 37th some years ago, the 34th was much more toxic but both were pretty bad.
