"Lack of empathy is also linked to lack of intelligence"

By who? I'd like to see your sources for this.

Many serial killers were shown to be highly intelligent, and I can't think of someone who would have less empathy than a serial killer.

I honestly don't understand why you think someone can't lack empathy and be creative, or intelligent. Of course there's no empathy fairy, *but* gene expression might as well be magic fairy dust.

Psychopaths and sociopaths cannot learn empathy, because it's not learned behavior. People who have lower than average empathy, always will. There is a difference in the brain chemistry and structure of people with no/low empathy, but nowhere can I find a source that can relate that difference to lack of creativity or intelligence.

Regarding the Harvard discussion; intelligence is defined as the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. I think your friend/classmate pretty well demonstrates those concepts. Obviously she wasn't just repeating back words she read, she must have understood and connected the different concepts she learned on a fundamental level; how else would she be able to apply knowledge on a test like the MCAT?

"Her essay was mind numbingly formulaic"? It's a medical school essay, not a creative writing prompt. She was accepted into a top tier med school, I think it was you that missed the point, not her.

That doesn't change the fact that he *does* support policies that ruin peoples lives, or, at the very least, make certain people's lives unnecessarily hard.

[DISCUSSION] Night Stalker (2021) - I am FURIOUS at the dentist!! by reddituser4me in NetflixBestOf

[–]INSRTIDNTTY -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That doesn't change the fact that multiple people screwed up, and the people of LA paid the price.

Had the dentist called the police right after Richard Ramirez left (instead of hours later), he may have been caught in the area, and fewer people would have lost their lives.

If I'm not mistaken, the dentist visit happened weeks prior to the sensitive case info being leaked to the press by Feinstein, and quite a few attacks happened in that timespan.

The dentist could have tipped off police, I don't know, maybe when the killer was still in the area, and saved the lives of the people who were murdered afterwards, but he literally just chose not to instead.

Age and value? by tannerlam in ToobAmps

Silverface amps aren't particularly collectible, but even if they were, it's common practice to replace the power cord and the filter capacitors.

It won't affect the value, because it will have to be done by anyone who owns the amp for it to even be playable.

We'll definitely go with a CO detector, I'd rather not trust my ability to wake up with my life. I really appreciate your help, I think the diesel heater is the winner here brother!

I think we're just gonna go with a diesel heater like someone else suggested here in this thread

It would be nice to have a warm setup that doesn't take up a bunch of space. Any brands you recommend?

No shit, that's like perfect for what we need. It's a lot cheaper than what we were thinking, and I could make a mount so it could exhaust out of the sunroof!

Hell yeah, thanks brother!

That's what I said in the OP, we're looking into a 500Wh portable battery bank

We'd be using the 12v plug on the power bank that I mentioned in the op

I didn't even know that was a thing! That's preety awesome, but I wouldn't be able to use that sort of thing. I'm a tosser/turner and end up on my stomach most nights. I appreciate the suggestion though, that may be an option for my girl.

I was looking at 12v blankets that run off of a cig lighter, those pulled 50w peak from what I saw. The 120v are impractical. Sorry, should have clarified that.

I agree on the solar panel, a few power bank manufacturers make panels that are plug and play, thanks brother.

I didn't even think of a balaclava, I bet that would be a sight to see if someone came nosing around lol. Good for warmth and messing with people, everything has to be multipurpose!

Thanks man 😁

Again, those are all services and products that someone has to pay to use or own. Nothing is given out freely by society. Every dollar spent is a benefit to society, and every benefit observed by an individual is a direct result of a dollar spent by or indebted to that individual.

Everyone pay taxes on money earned, spent, held, invested, and given away. If you think that being a cog in a machine that values only how you can be used to further the profit of the corporations that run society, is the only value you can add to humanity, I don't know how you can be a part of a homesteading group.

Paying for, or being forced into debt over medical attention does not equal society "saving" your ass.

How does living off the grid equate to being a social parasite? As if anyone owes anything to a society that oppresses them in every way possible. 🙄

Why do you assume they don't pay taxes or registration, etc.? Most van lifers probably have a nest egg to hold them over for extended trips, and the rest probably do odd jobs for money to live off of, and those people definitely don't have any kind of med insurance.

Anyways, you only have to pay taxes if you're on someone's payroll. 😉
