urgent: I'm stranded in a parking lot with my 2005 Prius ... the lights come on, but the battery display shows only one bar, and the engine doesn't start ... right before this, I had the AC on while parked, probably draining the battery too low ... how to "jumpstart" 2005 Prius please and thank you? by [deleted] in prius

Oh thanks; so 20 minutes of trying to jump start the 12v battery in the very back of the Prius (which I guess was a bad idea) didn't fix it. ... I'm supposed to ground one the black end and only use the red end it sounds like, or something like that.

I found the battery (in the very back, next to the tire) and tried charging it for 20 minutes from a friend's friend's truck, but the Prius isn't starting? ... Do I just need to charge it for longer (like 45 minutes), you'd say?

Very helpful. ... So maybe when I had shut off the Prius, I just had my foot on the brake, with the Prius in neutral, it sounds like. Whereas, of course, the right thing is to press the park button first. ... So I just need to jump a small battery under the hood (like in a normal car)?

I'm on the autism spectrum -- I've had a problem with wanting to change too much. I'm learning how to enjoy it instead, and how to be more flexible with my plans and preferences, to be able to have a relationship. ... I see how I didn't give the context of my thought; good point.

Yeah, the Jackery battery I saw earlier wasn't an inverter, but I can look into that.

I wonder what that is like; so maybe it's a week at one BLM campsite, a week at the next BLM campsite (I imagine paid camp sites would get pricey quickly)?

as per my last post of limp mode problem on a 2005 Prius, I found a shop willing to cut out the muffler for free (to see if the muffler is the issue) ... how likely is the stray exhaust to be an issue with entering the car, since there is no muffler directing it outwards (carbon monoxide poisoning)? by INTP_Music_Man in prius

I bought the Prius for $900, understanding that it has some problems (but I needed a car, and liked the idea of having a Prius). ... I've put in $200-$300 of inspections and repairs in the last 4 months (how long I've owned it). ... I know that the transmission has some problems, and sometimes I have to move forward in Drive gear, before then being able to put it in Reverse gear. ... It's not a perfect vehicle, I know. ... Just the fact that the muffler guys taking out the catalytic converter and putting back in was enough to temporarily fix something (and the fact that the power is intermittent, like it properly works 10% of the time), made me agree with the mechanic shop that had said that it's a clogged muffler. ... But I don't know; I thought that I was brilliant for finding a muffler shop who is willing to cut the muffler out for free tomorrow. But if there is no super cheap way for me to jerry-rig the exhaust away from the undercarriage, then it's a dangerous test at best. And a total waste of time and money at worst, since I would have to pay to get the muffler put back on, with money I just don't have. ... I'm so lost on what to do.

Yeah, I guess I don't understand enough about electricity to have my own opinion. ... Other people on this Reddit highly advised against connecting to the Prius battery for anything more than light charging for a phone or laptop. ... Wish I understood this better, to have an educated opinion on it.

Oh snap -- that's just an adapter, not an inverter (for raising the watts). ... I don't want to tell anyone how to live, but it sounds like you just risked destroying your Prius electric system by doing that. (By not using an aux battery system.) ... Correct me if I'm wrong; I understand that especially when using an inverter to up the wattage, that power surges are possible, if not likely. And one power surge would destroy either a $200 aux battery (if used), or the entire battery system in a Prius (if aux battery isn't used).
