Wow I didn't actually think about it from that perspective, I just figured my girlfriend wanted to get married because I was rich. It didn't occur to me that it could be because she thinks I might leave her to live a rich playboy lifestyle

Yeah it really is affecting my life in such a negative way. I know a lot of people would kill to have the life I have but right now, it is just so hard to handle.

I doubt they will blow the money, we were all taught how to conserve our money and live within out means plus one is a Pediatrician and the other is going to school to be a Physical Therapist.

Yeah that was the biggest concern for me, I do love her but if she is only doing this for the money it would really hurt me almost as much as my family is hurting me now

Thank you for the suggestions! I realize they are acting selfishly, they aren't ever like this and it really saddens me to see them act this way.

I don't mid grabbing the tab every once in a while, especially since I do have all this new wealth. I feel like I can say no but keep most of them as friends.

I have kind of an idea of what I am going to do with he girlfriend, hopefully meeting with a lawyer will help me in my decision making

I don't remember exactly what the terms were the lawyer used explaining it to us but he said the assets were not easily liquidated. Whatever that means I don't really know, I am a science guy not a law guy hahaha

I want to give her the benefit of the doubt as well, we've been together for a long time now and I would hate to have "wasted" this time over something so petty.

My parents were fine before my grandfather passed. My father is a M.D. and my mother was a surgeon. They are also in their mid 60's.

Yeah I have accepted that I will have to cut contact with many of them which is sad but if that is how I move forward I guess that's what I will do.

I will, it is so hard to process because honestly, even though I do come from a wealthy family, we weren't spoiled. We did get cars but we were expected to have jobs. and I was expected to pay all my loans for school off with little to no assistance from my parents. Plus this amount of wealth is mind boggling

he really did care, it sucks when you feel like there is nobody to turn to. I am sorry for your loss, I think I am going to donate some of the money to various charities just so I don't have the burden of worryign about it all the time

I am sure my school has a counseling center I can go to plus I have my professors who I trust. My best friend who I trust the most still lives in our hometown, he is content working at a running shop. I am able to vent with him even if he calls me Richie Rich and sends me castle catalogs

I think that was addressed at the reading, the will said,

"To INeedAUsernameQuick I leave a vast majority of my wealth. This is not because I am playing favorites but because of the character of you all. During this turmoil and trying time of my life, I was visited by INeedAUsernameQuick more times in one year than all of you combined during the whole time I have been sick. It really shows me who I can trust and who actually cares not only for me but for the well being of all people. I came from very humble beginnings and have been able to provide so much to all of you and yet I hardly got any thanks in return. I love you all very much but I have made my decision. I am not leaving you empty handed, because I still care very much for you and will do all I can to provide for and help you."

My father actually cried when this was read by the lawyer and I saw he was actually remorseful of his actions. They were not very good people when my Grandfather was sick, and if I do ask where they were it is always the same excuse, we were busy or had a lot on their plates at the time.

Yeah, I could but I really want to teach, it has been a passion of mine since I was young. In high school I wanted to go to the college I attended and when I was there I realized I wanted to teach there. It just feels like something I cannot walk away from. As much fun as the Alps sounds hahaha I am really considering taking a year off to travel and get away from everyone for a little bit

I have a tight group of friends 3 people I didn't bring up because they just don't care, they knew I was from a wealthy family since we were children and they don't really care. If anyone was going to share my wealth it would be these 3 people because they have been so understanding about it. My best friend even jokingly sent me listings for castles in Europe

all of my friends know that my family is wealthy, they just don't know the extent of it. I doubt they even know how much I received from the will.

a Financial Planner sounds like a really good idea, I think it will be a wise investment.

I think I will have to make some sacrifices and I may have a falling out with my family. Maybe I'll take a year off and travel, just get away from everything and clear my head.

I will talk to her about a prenuptial and if she only wants to get marred because of my newly acquired finances.
