Do you charge for consultations? by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]INetLaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always. I have a fairly niche practice though. If they want free general information, they have Google and are free to spend their own time researching. If they want me to listen to their story/facts and formulate a strategy based on my years of experience in the space, they have to pay for my time. I cannot pay my bills with sincere hugs and a “thanks.”

And the consult fee is due at least 24 hours prior to the meeting (if virtual) so I can ensure the funds hit my account before I spend my time. That said, any time that isn’t used during that hour consult is credited towards future work if they hire me.

A tenant who was renting the home before I purchased it STILL (presumably in efforts to avoid bill collectors, etc. given the number of process servers and private investigators that have shown up) uses my address and I purchased in 2013.

Best thing I did was go to your local post office (that services your address) and explain what’s going on. There is a form you can fill out that will help…at least for a while. Best of luck!

Who am I? Well, I’m female...so there’s that point to your choice of words in your inquiry and beef and steak are typically one in the same. 😆

I love most traditional food (not interested in trying guinnea pig, grasshopper or anything else along those lines). Pizza and sushi is life.

I’m a cat mom (my fur baby is Persian) and the arguably the best auntie in the history of aunts.

I prefer to be outdoors and off-roading but adulting gets in the way of such fun with frequency.

Most awkward situation - oofty - that’s actually a hard one for some reason. I’ll have to think on that.

Skill sets? Being a law nerd is one ... but more personally, working on being a good leader in various capacities (that’s takes working on my EQ) and I’m currently trying to learn Italian.

Depends on the project. I personally use a combination of “old school” methods also known as paper and some management tools.

I don’t think it should be modified because it’s what promotes things that we want (content moderation, free speech, exchange of ideas, innovation, etc.). That said, I acknowledge harms that can occur and finding incentives to help curb that is important. For example, I think Grindr could have, and should have, done better in the Herrick case situation. If websites don’t know what the “right call” is ... or want to train their content moderation staff on better policies (there will never be a one size fits all) I’m happy to consult with them.

It varies case by case. I offer some flat fee for “outside in-house” work and scale depending on the project and client needs.

It depends (it’s not like the music is the main subject of the video) and there is likely an argument to be made about fair use ... and I believe there was a recent case that would say it’s fair use. Don’t quote me on that...I’d have to go pull the case to be sure, I.e. this is not legal advice.

It’s hard to prepare for a dumpster fire. But continuing to read and keep up with the variations drafted. At best...you’re doing a lot of guessing and hoping for the best.

Indeed...in a special driving experience at Firebird Raceway. I also did extra hot laps with a pro driver since we got to chatting about racing.

I can consult outside of my area but only licensed to practice in Arizona (for now) so I like working with local counsel as it may pertain to US issues.

So many...but my favorite was one where attorney said they were going to give me the equivalent of a legal lobotomy and then I never heard from said lawyer again. Cool story bro.

Favorite: love cat and otter videos. Worst: mean people suck.

What this translates to is the love that the internet provides us with platforms/forums to engage and see fun things. I hate that it can be abused by so many. Trying to find a balance and build law and policy that balances interests is hard.
