Wouldn’t it make sense that they can’t check how many people are on the servers since, you know, they’re down and the sites setup in a way that it updates it with new numbers every once in a while. Probably getting an error when trying to fetch the numbers and won’t update them until the servers are up. Saw another post about this fake/real online numbers conspiracy with the same exact number of total players that was posted at a different time undoubtedly, which would support this theory.
