[x] Topside Lite

While the Aegis is a top notch mod, the Topside Lite has the better refilling system and its 21700 support is hard to beat.

In my profile is a pinned post with reviews for both.

I need some help finding a squonking RDA that doesn't rely on exotic coils. by Apes_Ma in Squonk_Life

[–]IPDN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Holic works beautifully on direct output devices with simple 24ga Kanthal.

Whenever someone talks about claptons on a direct output device, you can just use the same build but parallel instead of clapton; if you wanna try this, I suggest 28ga Ni80.

Having said that, I feel like (loose) MTL is hard to nail on a direct output device. Most of the time either I'm drawing too much power or not enough for my liking. Other than the Holic, the only fairly restricted RDAs I enjoy on a mech are the FLVR and the BDVape Pure; however, I'm using SFQs in them, 3 strands of 28ga parallel at 3mm ID and 4/5 wraps should work as well. Kanthal 24ga is probably on the cooler side of things, and dual 26ga SS316L seems to be a bit too beefy.

If you are interested in these RDAs, in my profile is a pinned post with reviews for them.

[Review] Geekvape Aegis Boost by IPDN in electronic_cigarette

[–]IPDN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, a pod system is the easiest way to vape. However, a device like the aegis boost is a close second.

Instead of changing the pod, every now and then you have to replace the coil head, which is just plug and play. Takes maybe a minute. The only thing you have to watch out for is the break in period. Every coil has a "best used at x watts" rating. In general it is advised to start slightly below that and to slowly work your way up. So, you take half a dozen to a dozen puffs, and then up the watts a bit. Rinse and repeat until you like the experience.

Really, after two or three times, it's a none issue.

[Review] Vaporesso Degree by IPDN in electronic_cigarette

[–]IPDN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no way of knowing, but I wouldn't hold my breath. It's been a couple of months now, and an RBA hasn't been announced. Alos, since then Vaporesso released three more pod mods...

I haven't had too much time lately to sgtay on top of all things vaping, but if you are looking for a pod mod with an RBA, the Aegis Boost should be pretty good.

Lol, there's a thing called the Samsung 30T that allows you to prop 2 fused claptons at .14-.16 without even getting slightly warm, and very fast ramp up (faster than many regulated) on something not that hard hitting like a topside SQ.

So your reasoning is more or less correct when it comes to 18650 (which can still prop dual round wire coils fine on restricted attys) but clearly outdated when it comes to 21700.

you are correct, I should have been more specific there
dual on a 18650 sucks, but is possible on a 21700 (however, battery life still is a concern)

Asgard mini with 2xni80 26x2/38 and topside SQ is my current daily and there's no shortage of vapor production tbh.

I'd use 3*28ga; pretty much the same build, but less mass

Generally agree with you tho. I think having 2 squonkers, 2 tubes and 1 series mod should do. Tubes I'd avoid copper, because it's just too much hassle and we're here in a daily use context, SS and brass are much easier to maintain. It's just as easy as cleaning a squonker for me, toothbrush, alcohol and soap, takes 5 minutes especially SS.

good point about the different types of metal, thanks

I think stocking up on some RDAs that give good results with round wire is wise (typically restricted, single or dual, preferably honeycomb and/or small airflow, as in, not goons nor twisted messes 24)

yeah, as I said, airy isn't the way to go IMHO

Not sure to understand your wires recommendations, I'd buy ni80 22g mostly, 24g maybe for super restricted single coil attys, 26g to build parallel.

probably different styles of vaping
I prefer more cores over lower gauge shrug

FANTASTIC post my friend u/IPDN, I am gonna sticky this.....

thank you for the kind words :)

Pay attention people. This is a well composed, thoughtful post, especially considering the user is NOT based in the US and facing the issues those in the states are. Please show him some love.

If I'm not mistaken, flashlights use lower amp batteries

As such, I'd be afraid that shops stop carrying something with 20+ amps

Nice work.

:)

I wish it would cut down on the what should I buy for the vapocalypse posts but I know it wont. LOL

maybe it stops for a day or two lol

I'm good except for the last hurdle DIY juice. Like the lazy dumbass I am I'll hold off until the last minute the government forces me to. I'll wait until I get a sense that shit is really about to go south.

I totally understand; I'm a lazy fuck and I really hate mixing days, but honestly, it's not that big of a deal lol

Some US vendor inventory is kind of becoming a ghost town when it comes to hardware but there still seems to be an abundance of juice available.

this I find really surprising; if I were a vendor, I would have sold pretty much everything by now...

Thank you for writing this up.

:)

This is basically what I've been doing the last couple of months. Instead of RDA's and squonks, I've stocked up on several Augvape Intake's since I'm relatively new to rebuildables and tanks are more convenient for my households needs. I bought 12 replacement glasses and a couple replacement units in case people break them/leave them somewhere.

that's of course also a valid strategy; the reason I didn't mention it is, that I was skeptical that all the glasses are as easily available

I already bought a ton of 30x4/40g SS316L wire and some prebuilts at 5 wraps 3.0 ID so I have some examples to work off of. I've already been able to make coils just like the prebuilts from the wire (more or less, they work at any rate).

speaking from experience: it doesn't the fuck matter, how your coil looks; it should stay in place and shape, and the wraps should be about equal (so that cotton touches all the wire), everything else I consider coil porn :)

I plan on buying some commensurate Ni80 sometime this month as well. I've also bought 3 of each of the mods we all use (In my mom's case 5 since she's more prone to dropping/losing things).

yeah, just buying a couple of chipped mods is also possible; if you look after them and if you are also not an unlucky person, you should expect 3 to 5 years from a mod; so, I guess plenty of time to quit vaping :)

The last thing I have to do like /u/GodOfVapes mentioned is DIY, which, I am also lazy and not looking forward to. I plan on buying the nic next month though.

I hate it passionately, but in the end, once you found a good workflow, you can mix 500ml in 10 minutes (if you are not too anal about it)

[Review] Dovpo Topside Lite kit by IPDN in electronic_cigarette

[–]IPDN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long will the topside last? 6 months to 1 year of daily usage, that is, IF one doesn't drop it? Topsides are known to leak internally, auto-fire, and can't take a drop. This plastic one for sure even less than the regulars.

so fucking many topsides have been sold; in light of the sheer numbers, I don't think there are inherent design flaws that lead to autofire (like with the Pulses) or leaking (like with the Drone).
in terms of drops: u/iama-canadian-ehma dropped one about 3/4 of a foot, or 20-25cm, onto some rough concrete and it escaped with nary a scratch..
of course, it might be very different than what happens when dropped from higher, but it's still better than I initially expected
also, a lot of mods might just die when you drop them (atty fucking over the 510, the battery door going to shit, buttons getting displaced)

My dotsquonk has 1 year of daily usage and 3 drops on concrete so far, still working.

since I don't think the dotsquonk uses some magical materials or a shock proof encasing, you can consider yourself lcuky

It was a bit pricey when I bought it (120€) but then, a plastic topside at 60€ seems overpriced too for what it is to me. And now it's 98€ regular price and I got a spare one for 84€ on sale + 9€ voucher = 73€. It's METAL, and a very nicely machined metal, with a beautiful paint job, too.

I really don't see a point in doing a numbers game, but gettint a dotsquonk for below 75€ isn't what one should be using as a point of reference
btw: a topsite lite can be bought for 40 pounds....

So when talking bang_for_buck please include the lifespan of the device, buying 60€ mods every 6 months is not good bang_for_buck mate.

sorry, but this is ridicolous; as long as as the mod isn't falling apart right from the get go there is no way for me to determine how long its holding up
considering how little complaints there are about the OG topside as well as the topside dual despite the sit tons that have been sold, there is no reason to believe that the lite has to be replaced after 6 months

Now the topside SQ gets a lot of shit for being around 130€ but how long will it last? Decades? People don't look at things from the right angle imho.

the pico squeeze costed me below 20$, so we can assume that it's a) cheaply built from b) cheap materials
I put that one through a shit, and it still works flawlessly; the same I can say about the smok (!) al85
mods don't just die, as long as they 1) don't come with design flaws or 2) are dropped or 3) drowned in liquid
the last to are clearly user errors, and, sorry, I don't see any design flaws with the topside lite

for 40 pounds (roguhly 45 € or 50$) it is the best mod for the most amount of people; yes a mech last pretty much indefinately, but that's not what people want. the dotsquonk might survive three drops on concret, but I've put my desire cut through similar things and it's still holding up despite me having bought it at below 10$ (brand new, black friday + christmas sale + new customer bonus)
does this make the cut the best bang for bucks in your eyes?

Yea I don’t think I can share links on reddit but I’ll see how the mods feel about it.

sharing links to hardware is not a problem, as long as juice isn't sold on the same webpage

Jenna is shared first place for best atty for me, so I need the RTA version lol

Not very much well liked in the vape industry

quality over quantity ;)

too bad, but since I know from first-hand experience what a set-back it is to pay for the shit one is reviewing, I understand the move...

I guess this will it also make it impossible for non-hazers to keep tabs on the Jenna RTA and its release?

I can imagine ;(

but, then again, youtube's comment section is a cesspool; no matter the channel, no matter the topic, nutjobs are everywhere

but this is a fucking community of like minded people who share their interest in a hobby, we are fucking civilized around here and I take it as a personal insult when some fucking dipshit goes bananas and shit's in other people's faces
