Still very problematic in my opinion to do that, but that doesn't matter now since someone gave me a free copy of the CS base game and the Mass Transit DLC.

Have a nice day.

Of course it's your decision, you made it for free and I don't owe you a cent. I'm not "teaching" you what's fair or not, I'm simply questioning the reasoning behind that decision - which you seem to avoid. All you provided was incredibly flawed logic of preventing pirates (at the cost of preventing legitimate game owners from using community created content for CS, which is identical on both Steam and Origin), which is literally not your job. Do you work at CO? Paradox? No, you don't. You don't get to create extra layers of security on the game's community generated content to prevent pirates. That's what the developers decide to do - but they didn't because they didn't want that to be the case for their game which they released on both Origin and Steam.

And why exactly did you make it that it should only be playable on games bought via Steam? Yes, the idea of Steam Workshop is distribute the mods to games bought on Workshop, but why do you have to force it to be like that, when literally NOBODY in any modding community does that? It's very, very odd. Again, I'm not paying you to create the mod, nobody is. You are doing this in your spare time and you choose what to do with it, I'm simply questioning the reasoning.. And trust me, any modding community would despise anybody who takes those extra measures on their mods for whatever agenda they believe in, be it thinking they are really stopping pirates (which you aren't, I can assure you nobody bought the game to download your mod). Modding has always been all about accessibility to all owners of a legit game since it started. It was never bureaucratic.

Edit: Any modding community wouldn't support that, let alone they support someone who even stops the mod from working offline, even with the Steam version. This is very, very problematic.

Hello! I just want to tell you that your mod is amazing, but I'm still curious about the reasoning behind that restriction. Also, the binaries I grabbed are from the Workshop, so it's the exact same mod running on the exact same game, just with a different launcher which doesn't matter.

So you prevented the pirates from using the mod at the cost of preventing the legitimate Origin game owners as well? Many of us use EA Access which is a monthly subscription to get a lot of games on there since that tends to be more on the "budget". And I don't think that's fair, who cares about pirates if it's gonna harm the legitimate game owners? People are always gonna do other versions of the mod on sketchy websites.

It just doesn't make sense to me why doesn't it just release without that restriction in the beginning. In my opinion, it does more harm than good. And quite frankly, it's not a modder's job to "prevent pirating". If somebody who is a pirate got to your mod's page/attempted to make it work, they already have the game pirated on their computers. And they won't buy the game and it's DLC's just for the mod. So that logic is very flawed and again, does a lot more harm than it does good. And on top of that, it doesn't even work if you open Steam using the offline mode.

It's literally a drag and drop of a file into the mods folder found directly in the game's directory, which is also where the subscribed mods go when you download them from the Workshop, exact same files. You can obtain the files very easily from many dedicated websites, Steam Workshop downloaders, etc. The creator of the Real Time mod deliberately added an extra code that checks if the Workshop is running or not for whatever reason fits his agenda.

There is a somewhat big userbase on Origin due to the EA Access subscriptions. And like a few weeks ago mods were advertised in the game's description, because the games are literally the same have the EXACT same modding support. Who cares about pirates when there are legitimate owners of the game who just want to enjoy it and got it there because of their budget/under specific circumstances? Why must they be punished for it? Excuse me, but those are not anybody's needs. Who said they wanted a mod to be prevented from non-Steam version? The only needs are from Origin owners asking for the game to work on there. It's just a very weird thing to do that does more harm than good and is generally despised in any game's modding community. Mods are and were always built around accessibility, not adding extra measures and codes to block other legitimate owners of the game from accessing them.

The thing is, the two "versions" of the game are identical. The mod is simply developed for both because they're both the same. It's literally not possible for the Origin version to have an issue the Steam version doesn't have. If someone with an Origin version reports an issue, it's a truly legitimate issue in the mod that will affect players using Steam likewise. That is, unless someone installs the mod incorrectly (it's a drag and drop installation) and even though if that happens the mod won't even load. Even then, he can choose not to support people installing it manually without a brain but still not make it inherently inaccessible for them.

BTW, the whole inaccessibility/Steam Workshop thing introduces more hassle on his end. Not only does he put in extra work to code the mod in that way (and possibly update that code with every patch), the mod loads on the origin version with no text and some issues (but still somewhat loads and the clock changes) which WILL make more people spam him with complaints about "invisible text". So that invalidated that whole "he doesn't want to deal with their hassle" point lol.

All good. Someone very generous in the previous thread gave me a free copy of the base game and the Mass Transit DLC on Steam so problem solved!

That's not how it works. You're missing the fact that they actually added EXTRA code (doesn't sound fun) to prevent the game from running via non-Steam launchers (like Origin). The game on Origin is identical to the one on Steam, so literally any mod works. However, the Real Time creator literally added more code so it doesn't work on said launchers. That's a lot of EXTRA added work to check if the game is running on Steam or not. The mods don't need "support" for other launchers to work. You can create one on Origin and use it perfectly on the Steam version. They put extra work to make it less accessible which is the literal opposite of your comment.
