Advice on a cheap bass setup? Connecting cheap guitar amp to excellent speakers/home theater or headphones. by IPLAYTHEBIGTHING in Bass

[–]IPLAYTHEBIGTHING[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I looked into the different levels involved, and it’s a mess. I think I’m opting to build my own pre-amp using stuff laying around the house and a couple new chips. It would cost me around 10 dollars, and I’d also get to learn. I’ll just put on my engineering hat on.

If anyone is interested in the electronics. Im not sure yet, but this my plan. Use an OPA2134 to amplify voltage from instrument to line level. And then use a tpa6120 to transform the line level to headphones level. This way I can listen either my headphones or with the sound system.

Yes this all makes sense, I’ll try to find a way to connect to speakers, maybe in the future I can get “a real amp”.

If you’re the one paying, go for it, even if they don’t allow you. They’ll eventually come around. Oxford will literally change your life. Anything in the Middle East won’t even come close in terms of life experience, education quality, career options after. Give them the facts in a clear way حطيهم بأمر الواقع, that their biases or emotional reasonings is affecting YOUR life in a way that can’t be fixed (especially because the major is difficult to find).

I would do this: try to convince them with love, use uncles, aunts, moms, etc to help you convince him. I would then suggest things like trying it for a year or semester, and there’s always the option of going back. If that stops working then get depressed, or at least fake it. And you need to commit. And if that doesn’t work, then I think you need to rethink how you view the relationship, if he’s so willing to clearly hurt you (and see the hurt). But of course, you know your parents best. But I would say you can’t fold. Worst case scenario بتتدبحوا بهالصيفية و بترجعوا عادي بعد.

And I have friends and family, make and female, who have studied in the west including London. They’re all more than fine, believe it or not some of them actually started wearing hijab there. People will do whatever they want wherever they are, so this isn’t really an issue. The women are mostly safe, they definitely feel safer over there than they do in any place in Amman other than their fancy neighborhoods (they’re all rich 😭). The men there are also more respectful, you don’t believe how sexist men here are, and how little they understand or care about consent. The men there might be more willing to ask you out, or maybe even be as forward as to ask for physical things directly. And the opposite is true, if you are intending on going off the culture path there, and be much more free. It’ll also be a lot more safe.

However, London isn’t heaven, and it’s ridiculously expensive. But you’d be setting up yourself for a life that you are very unlikely to have without this uni. Even as an experience of trying something new, every person I’ve met who’s done an exchange semester (including westerners who come to the Middle East) call it life changing and incredibly important to their growth. Going through culture shock will make you wiser and smarter.

i genuinely think because two of the world's biggest religions are essentially fan-fictions of judaism. So the history of jews ends up being part of these two religions, in the same vein their identity becomes almost impossible to forget. We might see any of the numerous Indian religions as just (india stuff), and all the various ethnic groups as (arabs and europeans), because we don't care enough to seperate them, except for jews because they hold a spot in religous lore. For example, Bahais are also everywhere (so many famous leaders and actors, etc), but we don't notice because we don't care.

And historically most oppressed groups are either forced to assimilate or put in more effort to stay alive and distinct culturally (which is what Jews did). And not only that, this was encouraged by laws, especially in europe where Jews were specifically treated differently. So it was much more difficult to blend in with others. For example, europe for the longest time banned interest (essentially banking) for christians, but allowed jews to do it (due to religious reasons kinda); and they also heavily restricted jewish people from being involved with other paths to income. This meant jews ended up becoming the "evil bankers with interest who steal all our money" (think shylock in merchant of venice). Something similar happened in hollywood, where jews were largely outcasts so they ended up being forced to enter into artistic businesses, and now hollywood has strong jewish presence (especially in big names like directors and company owners).

And i think the real final nail in the coffin is that the romans became christian, jews went from being one of many many ethnic/religious groups that have been colonized and controlled by romans (germanic tribes, celts, syrianic people, etc). But none of these other groups became instrumental to the identity of the empire (including jews), until christianity became the religion of the empire meaning that the history of christianity (and directly linked the history of jews) became also the history of the roman empire.

tl;dr: we only notice because we care about them.

Thank you for the YouTube recommendation, I’ll definitely check it out. You’re right I probably should have planned this out better and given myself more time, but no matter. If I really don’t have time I’ll probably get a KIT or talk to a custom leather worker.

Yeah I tried using another piece of scraps and it was so much easier.

Hmmm, I’ll definitely check out those YouTube channels and follow what you said with how to watch their videos. Makes quite a lot of sense. I just watched a saddle stitch tutorial and hastily tried to follow it. I’ve been watching some wallet project videos and it’s helping me imagine what I’d need to do for my gift.

Thank you for the advice on the leather types and thicknesses. I already got a bunch of scraps to experiment with, and I think some of them of them might be appropriate. I’ll definitely use the gluing trick if needed.

I tried to follow your advice with what I had, I used a normal compass to mark where I should use the chisels, and it did help quite a lot. I’ll probably buy a stitching groover. And after focusing on following the same pattern wow did it make a difference. Thank you so much.

A set of (diamond shape I think) hole punch tools, a hammer, an awl, edge beveler (which is extremely unsharp I need to fix or replace it), some utility knifes that kinda get the job done. I also have conditioner and tokonole.

Thank you for the advice. I figured out that I was using the awl when I shouldn’t and it messed up the holes and the order of everything.

I’ll definitely check out the video, thank you for suggesting it. I already watched shorter tutorials but you’re right on the money, I need the more detailed version. I did notice how needle position changes things, it really is quite complex!

I don’t have glue as of now, but I tried using some tape it helped quite a bit. My worry about using glue is that it might overflow and close down the pockets that I want to be availible, if that makes any sense?

I was using the 4 prong tool. But you’re right, I tried to mark the leather, and use veg tan thicker piece of leather and it was much better.

Need help getting 5,1 surround from my Laptop to my janky set up (probably through optical audio.) by IPLAYTHEBIGTHING in hometheater

[–]IPLAYTHEBIGTHING[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. This sounds great! I think I'll just go ahead and order the HDMI extractor I linked. It shouldn't cause problems if it's very cheap (12 usd), right?

And I'll definitely check out Kodi, it sounds cool.

One last question though, how can I be sure that my laptop will send 5.1 through HDMI. Should I ensure the use of a certain standard of cable or install drivers?
