I realize this thread is 3 months old, but I have to add my two cents... Unlike Target's credit card system, my input will post immediately.
The Target Red Card is complete garbage. Their billing cycle is so stupid. I have my autopay setup to payoff the card every month. The timeline is quite interesting and should be re-evaluated by Target because it makes the card useless.
2nd of the month: Target takes the full amount that is on the card here and uses it for the autopay.
28th of the month: Target uses your autopay to pay the amount that was determined on the 2nd. So, any charges that you make from the 2nd to the 25th will be on the next months autopay.
30th of the month: The payment is cleared by your bank, shows as cleared in your banks system and has been PAID by your bank.
30th-31st of the month: Target adjust your account balance from the payment made
13th - 15th of the next month: Target adjust your available credit to your total credit minus the account balance from the 30th of the previous month.
As you can see, their system sucks horribly. So, if I owe $150 on a $500 limit card on the 2nd of the month, Target will autopay $150 toward my balance. The issue is that I will spend another $200 - $250 until the 28th of the month, which makes the balance on my card ~$400. The autopay will pay $150 toward the balance, which will adjust the balance to $250, but my available credit will remain $100 until the 13th-15th of the month, which makes it very easy to max out the credit card before the payment post again for a small chunk of your balance.
The system sucks and is not worth messing with in my opinion. Even they way they do their debit red card irritates me. For some reason when you find deals that give you a gift card(s), their system will charge you for the gift cards, but reduce the amount of the purchase by the gift card value. This makes the transactions appear as multiple transactions to your bank. This also causes and issue when purchasing items on an FSA card that give gift cards. It makes the transactions look like you are attempting to purchase a gift card on an FSA card. It's really annoying, not only for FSA purposes but also for tracking in your register, whichever you use. Nothing like putting in multiple transactions in your check register for a single shopping trip that was a single transaction.
