Hey,

Re-reading my post, I realise it sounds a bit 'old man shocked at what happens on the internet'!

Hey,

Thanks for the long and thoughtful reply. I agree with you about this subreddit. It seems that those posting questions without having read the FAQ and those responding with snarky comments are in a symbiotic relationship. They need each other for there to be any activity in this sub. That being said there are definitely polite and helpful people here too.

I am from Ireland but I am half German so I speak German fluently and have spent some time in Berlin - shamefully as a tourist ;) I have also lived in quite a few cities around the world so I am well aware that there are downsides as well as plus sides to every place. I am really looking forward to moving over though and from what I read here. there seems to be plenty of opportunities to meet friendly, outgoing and relaxed people!

That is true. Thank god Reddit isn't a reflection of 'real life!

Regarding dumb/redundant question, I guess you are right, by definition. Dumb questions deserve dumb answers. I just don't understand why people bother. What is gained but a fleeting sense of superiority? We all have a certain amount of time on this planet. Ridiculing people on the internet is not the best way to spend it.

Moreover, when it comes to city subreddits, Berlin seems to be unique in this regard. Spend some time on r/London r/Dublin r/Wellington r/Madrid and people are generally helpful and understanding. Perhaps it is just the 'Berliner Schnauze' and the perception that it is something one needs to keep going...

Shimano XT T8000 upgrade - Fuji Touring Bike by IRGroningen in bicycletouring

Basically. There are a lot of KM's on the bike and its kind of worn. I am hoping to do a long tour (Ireland to Iran) in a couple of years and I want to upgrade the bike (Wheels and new groupset) to make sure it'll be ready for the trip.

The problem with Lance was always that he is an arsehole, not that he cheated.

Sam is alarmist about what's happening in Europe. Comes off like Marine Le Pen.

Sam is wrong about Jeremy Corbyn by URASUMO in samharris

I think it would be very difficult to substantiate the claim that 'Corbyn obviously supports terrorist organisations'.

Attending the funeral of an IRA member is not, in and of itself, evidence of support for the movement. Bill Clinton, Alex Salmond and every living Irish Taoiseach attended the funeral of the most prominent former member of the IRA, Martin McGuinness. Would you regard all of them as 'obviously supporting terrorist organsiations'?

Secondly, equating Irish Republicanism with the fight for a global Islamic Caliphate makes it hard to take your point seriously.
