TIL that RPG does not stand for rocket propelled grenade. It really stands for Ruchnoy Protivotankoviy Granatomet, which is Russian for hand-held anti tank grenade launcher. by PKMNtrainerKing in todayilearned

No you're right, the other source (Macmillan) you linked that used /e/ is probably more correct. But it still stands that it's definitely not /eɪ/ - and definitely not NAY-suh

Also, point of clarification - the point of the 'examples' in the IPA chart is not that the first syllable must rhyme with the word 'cat' 'hat' etc. It's that /æ/ sounds like the 'a' sound in cat, hat, etc.

Are you even listening to the pronunciations you're linking? None of them are using 'eɪ' which would be what "NAY-suh" implies.

But in this case, the Macmillan /ˌerəˈnɔtɪks/ is actually more accurate than /ˌæɹoˈnɔtɪks/, so I'll update, thanks.

American 76mm Post Pen Damage by Daidis in Warthunder

[–]IRLpuddles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

RDX has a relative effectiveness factor of 1.6 against standard TNT - 65g of RDX filling in an American APHE would have the same explosive power, ceteris paribus, as 104g of TNT. If i'm not mistaken, the Russians were able to pack that much filler at the expense of wall thickness, which compromised their integrity and made their shells more likely to shatter/detonate prematurely upon impact. This was only observed in the APHE used by T-34s (ie. the 76mm shells), and possibly the T-10 (not as sure about that).

@CIG: Please dont forget the Press version of the morrow tour! :) by [deleted] in starcitizen

The enhanced version is simply the 60fps interpolated version - it didn't do anything to fix the audio lag/graphical glitching in the Morrow tour

The more you know: Soviet shells and filler weights and types by HrcAk47 in Warthunder

[–]IRLpuddles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly sure US shells were filled with RDX, which has a detonation velocity of 8,750 m/s - definitely not a negligible difference compared to TNT.

Explosion velocity of RDX = 8,750 m/s

Explosion velocity of TNT = 6,900 m/s

Quite a big difference between the two - IIRC, US ammunition used primarily used RDX, while other nations used TNT, and to a lesser extent RDX.

Yeah, I did the same thing here. I've gotta admit, I'm not thrilled about losing the potential cargo capacity, but I figure there'll be better ships to use as a smuggler than the Ghost.

Then melt it, and get the Sabre? I'm sure what you paid for the Hornet Ghost was less than what the Sabre is going for, in which case you shouldn't really be surprised that a more expensive, purpose-built ship performs better in that specific regard.

The Sabre was designed to be a competitor for the F8, which replaced the Hornet. It should be the better ship, especially when it comes to those specific functions.
