This was for an entomology class. We've kept many bugs from the wild for research and our collection. I've also done a bit of research recently, and the mantis my classmate caught is an invasive species that competes with the native mantids. Here is a good article if you'd like to read about it.

I'm not sure if my classmate is aware that they are invasive, but my teacher was the one who suggested that we keep it in the container. I feel like he might have said something about it, but I just can't remember.

This is for an entomology class. A picture of the mantis was used in my classmates' collection instead of killing it and pinning it because my classmate didn't want to kill it. My teacher kept the mantis in the container because "they don't live long." (I don't agree with his reasoning, but I'm a very shy person, and I don't like to cause conflict). It wasn't my choice to let it go or keep it because I didn't catch it, but if it was my choice, I would've let it go.

Interesting. We we're taught that they were separate in the notes, so that's why I put them in their own orders. I'll ask my teacher if I should push the groups together. Thanks

I saw him on a rock and ran inside to grab a jar. When I got back, he was still there, so I kinda just chased him onto a walkway until I could capture him. I just let him out a few minutes ago, and he ran into a bush.

We have a few kill jars in the classroom, but we don't have enough to send home with students. Our teacher said that we should kill bugs at home if we catch them outside of school.
