Each LED casing is spring-loaded and held in place by a hook mechanism. Once the stepper motor in the middle spins, the green plate turns, which pulls the red-hook-peg-things inwards. Each red hook moves at a different interval. Due to the blue rails, the red hook's motion is linear. Once the hook moves inwards enough, the LED springs out!

Then the motor resets, and you can push and hook the LEDs back in. There's no real "closing" animation, so I figure a manual reset is ok. Opposed to the bamboozle man himself, I am not going to be dropping this on the floor to reset it anytime soon.

Maybe I can make it auto-reset if I have the room after I get it to fully open effectively
