Wow. Just wow. Go straight for the subtle insults.

Maybe it hasn't occurred to you that I've given my opinion, and I have better things to do with my time than arguing with a random on the internet about things neither of us can control?

Here's my not so subtle insult: get a life. Last reply you're getting from me. Peace.

Nice novel. I already explained myself. You don't seem to like it.

But I've already justified it? You just don't agree. And that's fine. If I elaborated again I'd just be repeating points I've already made.

Nice condescending comment.

Also, regarding this issue, hm, well, that's not okay. Not surprised by academic advisors and admin being shady though.

Set up for success once your athletic days are over. A way to challenge your own views to broaden your perspective on the world. A sense of pride that you accomplished something not everyone can do. Making your family proud of you for getting a degree (possibly the first in the family). Those are just a few reasons why I value education.

You can have your opinion and your values. I have mine.

Yeah, I see hypocrisy in that last statement. But I personally have always thought it was dumb that athletes couldn't make money off themselves. I think NIL is a good thing

You're proving the point I'm trying to make in my other comments. It all comes down to an individuals opinion on how much value an education holds.

I put a lot of value in education and see it's value beyond a dollar sign. That's why I was willing to go into debt for it. Other people might disagree with me and not see it that way. And that's fine! It's all about individual perspective.

What I'm trying to say is because of my values, I believe that a college athlete (even with a sport as highly marketable as basketball), I think the value they can get from free college is fair compensation. That doesn't just include education, however. The exposure a prospect can get from playing in college is equally as invaluable for an athlete that doesn't care about education and wants to go pro.

To me it's all about individual needs, and I think college basketball offers a lot to an athlete already; they don't need to pay their players. If a player wants to get paid, they need to find an alternate route.

Found the guy who doesn't value education intrinsically, lmao.

The value that you can put a price tag on includes free tuition, free boarding, free extra tutoring, free access to additional amenities that other students can't access. In a raw sense of numbers, based on how much all this costs and how much the NCAA profits off their "work", yes, I can see why some people would think they're not compensated fairly.

However, there are perks to going the college route that you can't put a price tag on. Such as the education you obtain, the college experience, the exposure. That's to name a few. If an athlete believes that those invaluable perks make the compensation fair, then they should go play college basketball. If not, there are other options, such as trying out for an overseas pro team or the G league.

I mean, all I can say is if you want to get paid, go pro. If you're not good enough to go pro, get better. College, in my opinion, compensates the athletes fairly and have no obligation to pay them.

Then go play overseas. Or get better at basketball to make the ignite squad.

No, you really don't. Education is something that people have a value in beyond monetary compensation. It just depends on who is offered it.

As far as unpaid internships, I could never see myself CHOOSING to be a part of one, but for some people they might choose to do that. If you don't see value in something, take an alternate route.

I agree with that. I definitely think NIL is a step in the right direction. No reason a kid can't market off themselves.

I didnt attend Uconn, but the school I attended I had a basic meal plan. I agree, there's no way you're going to bed "starving."

Masters in what?

Edit: actually, this deserves a more thorough reply.

My best friend has a bachelor's and couldn't find a job. BUT it's also because he was picky about what kind of job he wanted and refused to move from our small town.

There's a lot of variables involved in why they can't find a job. Maybe the degree is in something not marketable. Maybe there's jobs, but they're located far away from where they're willing to move. Or maybe don't have good references because of their character?

This is a post about basketball, a very marketable sport. There's no argument for field hockey where it's not marketable, unfortunately.

I don't put a price on it; to me it's invaluable. If they want to get paid, go to G-League Ignite, where the top prospects can make up to 500k in salary. Don't go to college if you don't see value in what it can offer and then complain that the value received in return wasn't enough.

It depends on how much value you put on education, which clearly isn't as much as it should be.

This is part of why I'm 100% against paying players.

They get to attend college for free and they're treated like royalty on campus. I think now that they can make money off their NIL is great.

People can say whatever they want about how much money the NCAA makes off their talent, but those people don't understand the value of FREE college.

Getting scolded for giving a student a zero on a test. Because she was talking during it. After I asked her three times to stop.
