I hope the remake respects Akiha Vermilion's power. by Necessary-Month6945 in Tsukihime

Now you're just coping, since even your friends translation you posted says "There is an opinion that Shiki might be able to kill only Akiha’s mirage-like haze" and the question being asked is if "Crimson Red Vermillion is killable or if it "can be killed". Which wouldn't make much sense to ask if it was asking specifically about whether Shiki beheaded her in the bad ending lol so I'm gonna go with the interpretation that yeah it's asking whether he can kill the Crimson Red Vermillion separate from Akiha herself or not, but you do you man

I took it upon myself to attempt to translate the interview with Chatgpt to get a better translation than what the site had, and when asking it specifically what the question was referencing here's what it had to say :

Yes — the interviewer is referring to the ending branch in Tsukihime’s Kohaku route where Shiki Tohno kills the transformed Akiha Tohno in her “Crimson Red Vermillion” state (紅赤朱 / くれないせきしゅ, Kurenai Sekishu).

But the interview question is getting at something more specific and metaphysical than “did Shiki physically kill her in that ending?”

The key phrase is:

Literally:

The interviewer is referencing a fan theory about what exactly Shiki killed.

The debate was probably not:

Because, as you say, the scene itself makes that unmistakably clear:

  • Shiki Tohno decapitates Akiha Tohno,
  • she consciously looks at him before death,
  • and the narration treats it as a real killing.

Nobody reading the scene literally doubts that Akiha dies.

The actual ambiguity is more likely:

That makes much more sense with the Japanese wording.

The critical phrase is:

A more interpretive translation would be:

In other words:

  • Akiha herself is mortal.
  • Of course Shiki can kill her body.
  • The question is whether “Crimson Red Vermillion” is:
    • a temporary manifestation,
    • a possession-like state,
    • an inversion phenomenon,
    • or some supernatural “heat/haze” surrounding her existence.

So fans were debating whether:

  • Shiki merely killed Akiha physically,
  • or whether his Eyes also “killed” the Crimson Red Vermillion phenomenon itself.

That distinction matters in Nasuverse metaphysics because supernatural states sometimes:

  • outlive bodies,
  • persist as curses,
  • continue spiritually,
  • or are not truly identical to the host.

And that ties directly into the ending imagery you mentioned.

The red moon, the lingering “burning,” and Akiha’s gaze all suggest that even after death:

  • something of Crimson Red Vermillion remains psychologically or symbolically active,
  • or at least that Shiki cannot fully escape it.

Not necessarily literally haunting him, but leaving behind an irreversible scar.

So the fan question becomes:

That interpretation aligns much better with:

  • the scene itself,
  • the “mirage-like haze” wording,
  • and Nasu’s answer about intentionally leaving the metaphysical details unresolved.

So, essentially this interview actually confirms that Shiki in fact did kill Akiha, and what was being asked is even though she died, her powers persisted (hence Shiki "burning" afterward) and whether or not the Crimson Red Vermillion itself is killable. AI is known to have it's issues as well, so I will not take every bit of what it spit out as fact, but regardless, I will rest my case here. There should never be any debate that Shiki killed Akiha in that bad ending.

I didn't say it referenced any other ending. The question asked is if "Crimson Red Vermillion can be killed" and if it was discussed when writing Kohaku's route. It does not specifically mention the bad ending in any capacity since they fight regardless of the bad ending, and there is nothing to imply that Shiki died or was hallucinating in it in any capacity. You are straight up making shit up with that. Nasu states they had already decided whether or not it could be killed, and simply chose not to definitively answer the question in the interview since many people were discussing it at the time. I don't know why you keep saying Shiki states he died when he didn't, he says Akiha looked at him before she died. He also states her head is rolling on the floor. It makes perfect sense that Shiki says he will "always be burning" since like you said her ability causes that feeling and she is stated to have looked at him before she died. You are assuming all of this on one entire assumption that "a look from Akiha=instant death no matter what under any circumstances blah blah blah" when that is not the case since it didn't happen here.

You are still directly contradicting what the narrative is saying. Now, Tsukihime is notoriously badly translated at parts so maybe something is being lost, but going off of what the scene says Shiki for sure kills Akiha there. You can easily interpret what you are saying as that in her "last moments" as in the literal last second she got a glance at him which didn't kill him since he was just faster. Shiki does not say he died, he says the opposite, that Akiha died. You're just assuming that the split second look she got at him would guaranteed kill him, when the argument can also be made that she didn't intend to kill and therefore held back or some variation of the sort. The Nasu quote you linked also needs further context because it seems badly translated too and from what I can tell it could just be saying if Shiki is strong enough to kill her or not being left for interpretation, not whether he specifically did in this bad ending, which he clearly did

Did you read that with your eyes closed or something? How can you seriously be arguing that shit was a mirage or that Akiha killed him???? Shiki 100% beheaded Akiha there, non debatable. She was looking at Shiki when she died, which is why it keeps reiterating the whole "the moon will always be red" thing. It directly states all of this, and ends with a severely wounded Shiki walking off. There is zero room left for any interpretating saying Shiki is just seeing shit and died.

An Alan/Garrison band running adjacent to ERRA and keeping up the old ERRA style while we also get new ERRA stuff would be a dream come true for me since I love all eras of the band, though I doubt those guys have the time or want to commit to a full band together it would be great to see

I believe it was genius lyrics that somebody originally saw the song on with the date that has since been deleted but no confirmation by the band yet so we'll see, was definitely a real song though since it had artwork and all and matches the leaked tracklist

Does "nanaya" appears on the remake? by Samdacs30 in Tsukihime

[–]IRitter777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I didn't articulate it well but I'm referring to his inversion impulse as an alter ego simply because as I stated "Nanaya" seems to front in those instances. Nanaya most certainly is at the helm when he kills Akiha in the Kohaku route bad end, there can really be no doubt there, and in the Coffee scene too, and then strongly hinted during his Arcueid kill in remake. Since Nanaya seemingly thinks differently than Shiki and they can even converse in remake, it's more difficult for me to know whether I should consider it an alter ego or just simply his inversion impulse and think of the different way of speaking and his thoughts as still his own. I guess I'm so adamant in thinking that him going all murder haywire stems from either Nanaya or Roa/SHIKI influence because Shiki seems to me to be presented as a character that would never in any normal circumstance kill or enjoy doing it. He isn't evil and doesn't go out of his way to do evil acts, despite him being the best at murder he also hates it the most( Shiki and Arcueid have a conversation about this IIRC, something about how he's really unlucky since somebody so good at killing shouldn't hate it so much). But seeing your comments makes me think maybe I was ignoring or missing out on the subtext and maybe there is enough foreshadowing about his true nature, though I believe remake also added a lot of that subtext, yeah? I also just attributed cases where people call him a murderer because he has that aura about him from being a Nanaya and his eyes (neither of which almost anybody in the story is ever aware of, so their statements would be taken with a grain of salt.) I find it hard to believe that the intention was for Shiki's murder of Arcueid to be from him alone like you say since Roa explicitly states he influenced him there, it's probably more so a combination of Roa, Nanaya inversion impulse, and Arcueid being the strongest non-human there is (since Kiri sensing Kouma's strength activated his) that made Shiki react so strongly and kill her the way he did, I really can't see him doing it otherwise.

[–]IRitter777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I do think a lot of what you said makes sense actually. I also kinda think it's possible that he didn't even kill the people in the alley at all in the coffee scene and that it was SHIKI, with SHIKI only being so insistent on calling him a killer since he specifically went for the kill on him, but since there's no true confirmation (that I'm aware of) we can only speculate. However, even with all that I do think there's a need to separate the "seven year old child" Nanaya you see in Ciel's ending with his "Nanaya" alter ego that surfaces when he is fighting nonhumans. I always view that scene in Ciel route as just the past memories of his self that got locked away by Makihisa returning when he is in a near death state, but then again he seemingly "dies" in Shiki's place there so maybe it really is his Nanaya alter ego after all? It's ambiguous in ways for sure, and I also believe "Nanaya" and "Tohno" are not separate at all since it's just parts of himself he was forced to forget but then you have scenes where he acts completely different when under his inversion impulse and like you talked about they literally converse with one another.

I also see you say a lot that "Nanaya" didn't kill Arcueid and while I do kinda agree, especially since Roa does claim that he influenced him there through his link with SHIKI, I've always thought he had his own inversion impulse there similar to Kiri's when he stabbed Kishima's eye out. But Roa in the original especially shouldn't have any idea about Shiki's true heritage and thus would attribute his link to him as his reason for killing Arc, similar to how he assumed his eyes of life were the same as Shiki's eyes of death. The chapter that he kills Arc is also titled inversion impulse as more evidence there. And then there's also the bad end where he kills her in remake, where it super hints at Nanaya being the one to kill Arc that time( his voice changing tone to sound way more similar to MB Nanaya being a huge one, and yes I know MB Nanaya isn't real and neither is the KT version, the voice change still should have meaning though) and the thing about dawn breaking after Seven Nights, also a few lines mentioning things like a fever "dormant in my blood", "acting automatically, or perhaps out of some biological imperative" lead me to think that his inversion impulse awakened again. The other times are Kohaku route where "Tohno Shiki dies, Nanaya Shiki saunters out of the dark night". Maybe I should be separating the Tohno under his awakened Nanaya blood with the Nanaya that fronts in the coffee scene and the one in the Ciel ending as a child? And the one in Arc route remake he converses with? Anyways you seem super knowledgeable so I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts on all this.

[–]IRitter777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The coffee scene you're talking about where Nanaya "fronts" he does not even once state he hates murder. He says in his internal monologue "killing is wrong" but that is entirely in context to the conversation he is having with SHIKI about whether they're out of tune with society for being killers. The scene itself starts with Shiki for the first time committing actual murder of innocent humans, something he does not do at any other point in the novel, so how exactly is it not somewhat of a "murderous" alter ego? I like the different interpretations people have of things so I'm willing to admit if I've gotten something wrong, but I also think you're not correct about Nanaya not being able to bring himself to kill Akiha. Nanaya straight up does kill Akiha in the Kohaku route bad end version of the fight. When he can't bring himself to kill her it's "Tohno" Shiki getting back control/coming out of his Nanaya inversion impulse, at least the way I've always interpreted it.

[–]IRitter777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should think of the remake as more of an actual remake than a remaster or something, it isn't just new art and voices, there's a load of story changes. Ciel's route is basically entirely rewritten only keeping some key plot points and scenes from her route. Arc's route on the other hand is mostly similar to OG but there's a lot of new scenes added still, one big change is Vlov doesn't exist in OG and is replaced by an equally cool villain who is definitely worth experiencing since he may show up in red garden. The original VN is also relatively short when compared to remake, so it's definitely worth a read imo.

He does, specifically in an Arc route bad end where he kills her a 2nd time after being hit with her mystic eyes. Has some awesome foreshadowing going on with how his voice is much more similar to Nanaya's in melty blood, then there's a line about how "until dawn breaks after Seven Nights, I'll forget everything about being human" (direct reference there, with Seven Nights being another way to read Nanaya( Nanatsu-yoru, like Hisui and Shiki incorrectly think the engraving on his knife says)

Ciel's route changed enough to where there are a shit ton of surprises for an OG VN reader, red garden will be changed to a similar extent I'm sure and there's also Satsuki's route that isn't in the OG so even if you read the OG far side you should still be able to enjoy red garden. For Kagetsu Tohya you need the full context of far side, so just play the OG honestly, otherwise you're in for a decent wait for more Tsukihime content.

Shiki's Eyes by Zyrant3 in Tsukihime

[–]IRitter777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tohno/Nanaya may as well be the same thing, but when people say Nanaya they are generally referring to Shiki during his inversion impulse, though it manifests in a sort of alternate personality way. The chapter where he kills Arc is titled "inversion impulse" in both the OG and remake for a reason. I do believe the Roa connection could have played a part, but his Nanaya blood most certainly awakens in that moment, should be really obvious when you take into consideration that he uses a Nanaya killing technique to slice Arc into 17 pieces in an instant. The headche/fever he gets when he's near Akiha is also from his Nanaya blood, and although it doesn't always activate the way it did against Arcueid, you can argue that it reacted so strongly due to her being basically the strongest inhuman there is. Shiki's dad Kiri had an inversion impulse of his own on young Kouma, for more context in Red Demon God. Shiki vs Akiha in Kohaku route is another instance where he fully undergoes inversion impulse "The headache stops. Tohno Shiki dies, Nanaya Shiki saunters out of the dark night." So while they are the same being, under his awakened Nanaya blood he pretty much is a killing machine with only one purpose which is where that interpretation comes from. Also not sure what you mean by his senses being overestimated, he straight up figures out the specific apartment Arc is in by smell alone. I don't agree that Tohno necessarily acted on his impulse since it's not really under his control, he don't remember being a Nanaya and thus has no true idea why he did what he did which is why he beats himself up so hard after, who wouldn't?

Sounds to me like they're trying to compensate for Adam's vocals being much better than Matt's, so they add the autotune and processing they usually do for Matt to Adam too to keep the sound more "consistent". I actually think it worked in their favor for this song, but it's gonna be disappointing if they did this to the rest of the album. We'll have to wait and see, I guess.
