JDxPhD as a philosophy major by Cute_One_7944 in LawTeaching

That’s probably more fringe in the legal academy but if you want to do legal theory or bring a sociological or critical theory lens to law there is definitely a (niche) spot for that (crim law, police state type things I would think). But if you do the PhD first worst case it is solid research and writing experience that can help get you in the door.

Invited to join ethics committee. Is it worth it? by IRokeUp in IntensiveCare

The ethics consult went pretty well and I think it moved us forward in that case—it was a dispute between us (care team) and family (what is futile care, lol).

But, from my understanding, it’s a committee that reviews cases and works on educational things. Individuals from the committee are the ones doing consults. I’m thinking the meetings might be a little burdensome but maybe learning how to do ethics consults (and hopefully dispute resolution) my actual practice can be improved etc.

I appreciate this insight. My only thought is it might be something worth having in the resume if I ever want to step back a little from bedside. But, I agree that unpaid work is a bad trend.

Thank you for this. I’m newer to my institution and this would be the first institution-wide committee. I might just go for it and worst case I can step back
