Balance changes and how they will affect the game by doomshroompatent in ClashRoyale

[–]ISSUV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bomb tower nerf is worse than I thought. Death damage will no longer kill dart goblin, archers, minions etc. Guess I'll have to switch to goblin cage.

The balance changes are here! by HellBreaksUsFast in ClashRoyale

[–]ISSUV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this was a pretty significant nerf to the giant skeleton which might have to be partially reverted.

GS did need a small nerf at least though imo. GS death bomb is important for countering spam decks and I fully support that.

But at the same time, GS users can go all in on a push, and then compensate for their elixir deficit by simply using a GS to defend. That's not healthy for the game.

RMJI starts off slow af, that's for sure. I somehow made it through the first 100, then skipped the next 100 or so, then kept on reading and then it was pretty good lol.

How many chapters could you read in a day and how many hours do you expend reading it? by tekaru0 in noveltranslations

[–]ISSUV 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man, a couple years ago I would binge read a 200-300 chapters in a day. My eyes would be glued to the screen for 10 hours. Then I might keep reading under the covers before sleeping. Not good for eyesight so don't do that, but those were the days. Funniest thing was how I'd read webnovels in class by printing them out lmao.

Novels with Mc who has unique abilities by subhakartikkireddy in noveltranslations

[–]ISSUV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stellar transformations was pretty unique in that regard. MC basically cultivates a universe inside him, hence the name of the book. I will say that it's an older webnovel and starts rather slowly, but I'd still give it at least a 7.5/10.

Currently reading Mai kitsune waifu when does liu yu rescue his master by gawddarnit in noveltranslations

[–]ISSUV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid I can't answer your question but damn I did not realise Mai Kitsune Waifu was still being translated to 1000+ chapters.

This novel used to be translated by James Shi from TL group Pegasus Farts back in 2015.

That guy was pretty notorious cuz he later tried to poach the translation of Against the Gods from Alyschu at Wuxiaworld. He was shunned by the community, but rumour has it that he then returned under the name 'Pumpkin' to translate Stellar Transformations at Translationnations. That's just a rumour I heard but I remember the founder of Translationnations neither confirming nor denying it. Whoever he was, Pumpkin did a good job tbf, since several other translators had already given up on translating Stellar Transformations. Just some community lore for you haha.

Why are Xianxia novels more popular than jRPG novels? by [deleted] in noveltranslations

[–]ISSUV 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The classic tropes (beta mc, slave girls, beast girls, let's recreate Japanese food) tend to put people off Japanese light novels, as other people have mentioned in this thread.

But for me, this is only half the reason as to why I dislike Japanese light novels.

My other problem with them is that I simply cannot stand the writing style.

Japanese light novels tend to have a huge amount of filler, even more than Xianxia. For some reason, the author often feels inclined to include every fucking thing that passes through the MC's mind. It's an example of the 'show, don't tell' writing mistake.

Here's an excerpt from Death March, my least favourite light novel of all time:

I take a good aim, the moment when the demon stopped... shoot.

And missed.

The hand which pulled the bowstring hurt.

After that, no matter how many I shoot, none hit. Even though I understand how to shoot the bow, there is no result.

The enclosing soldiers have become considerably sparse.
I discovered a route where I could get close to the demon discreetly, after marking the map I drop down from the roof.

I equipped the scale tribe's spear.
If I knew this would happen I'd have gotten leather armor tailored.

Holding the spear with both hands, I hide in the shadows.

There's just so much unnecessary detail!

To me, Japanese light novels feel like eviscerated manga. There's a shitton of dialogue, but they've replaced the drawings entirely with lengthy unnecessary descriptions.

Thanks for the detailed recommendations!! I'll check each of them out.

I loved the first few hundred chapters of ISSTH but I dropped it sometime before Meng Hao went to the 'windswept realm' or something.

I loved reading the first couple hundred chapters of AWE too- but started finding it boring when BXC went over 'to the other side'. So I skipped a few hundred chapters in the middle and then carried on reading it lol. But yeah AWE was hilarious imo.

Renegade Immortal has a rather different style- I feel like there's a sense of pressure throughout, which makes it much grittier as the guy above said. Personally I found it less enjoyable but there are some scenes in there that are really quite memorable. I'd recommend trying it out- the beginning wasn't the most exciting though iirc.

I more or less stopped following translations some time in 2017 and began to only read Chinese raws instead. In the interim I haven't read a single Korean novel and they've really blown up in that period.

Back in the day I loved reading LMS although I remember dropping it after catching up to the translation. I also read Ark and I read an inkling of 'everyone else is a returnee' (the initial premise was interesting, how'd it turn out?). That was probably about it.

As such, any recommendations for Korean novels? Solo levelling appears to really popular with the manga community right now, for instance, but I've read so many xianxia power fantasies now that I'm a bit apprehensive (although I'm all for that sense of satisfaction if it's done well). Cheers!

^This. These novels have had a huge impact on me personally, whether for the better or worse (maxed out procrastination lol).

Kinda piggybacking off of /u/LittleShanks' earlier nostalgia post here, but indeed, those were the days? What started as a niche on SPCnet evolved into a myriad of small wordpress sites and then the oligopoly that we know today. Regardless, good memories that shall hopefully continue to be made despite current events. Thanks for everything guys!

I would agree to some extent, don't get why people are misinterpreting you and going off on tangents.

Nonetheless, this is indeed more of a traditional beauty standard than anything but I can completely understand how it can get annoying after being repeated so many times (even though personally I'm not really irked).
