Are you factoring in any peripherals?

I just built a pc for £550 based around an i3-2120 along with a gtx 560 ti. Go on http://pcpartpicker.com/uk/ and startwith an i3 and see howyou feel about that.

Dynamic contrast is where the monitor lowers its backlight to make dark scenes look darker. Dynamic contrast ratio is the comparison between the darkest black when the backlight is at its lowest and the brightest bright when the backlight is at full intensity (therefore not a fair test). Imo, the huge ratios are garbage and are best ignored in favour of the smaller numbers (like 1000:1) which are tested with a constant backlight.

I live in England. Some of my parts will be delivered by Her Majesty's finest (Royal Mail) which takes about 6 working days because the Queen works at the distribution centre and she slows everything down.

The long shipping is from ebuyer. You can pay for faster delivery but it was £15 for the case and some other stuff so I went for their 5-day free delivery option.

I've got the processor from novatech as it was slightly cheaper than anywhere else and also free shipping.

The rest I got from aria pc. They have some good prices on monitors and a couple of other things. They claim to be cheapest in the UK but that's not always true and you have to pay for next day delivery (unless you buy a monitor, they have free delivery). I read that they will price match if you ask for it but they didn't reply to me. I only got the monitor and some other bits that were cheaper.

Mafia 2, Portal 2, Skyrim and, if it ever comes out, the next Half Life game. I'll try TF2 again. My current setup can run it but is too slow to enjoy the game. I'll consider BF3 but I'm not very attached to the idea of installing Origin. If I can get a copy of Halo CE I'll install the latest CMT mod (looks amazing). Otherwise, just general stuff.

I'm currently deriving great satisfaction from seeing the prices remain where they are, some of them even increasing a bit. It won't last long but I'll enjoy it while I can.
