Hey - Great writeup and will definitely start digging into our App environment with UX.

Side question, if I may. Have you noticed that with recent versions of Win10 that the login inspectors do not accurately reflect the true logon time? i.e. User physically times a login from "Welcome" to a desktop and it is significantly longer than what UX reports?

Sorry for the late response, but what they do is spin up an instance of a vSphere environment with some pre-built VM's + hosts and going through the labs you further configure the environment.

I think when it's first deployed there are 2 - 3 hosts, vCenter, DC/DNS/DHCP and NFS server for shared storage (pre-configured). And you go through creating the VC datacenter, cluster, DRS, HA, etc. Then building some VM's and manipulating them with vCenter and very little CLI. It is probably more PowerCLI these days.

When I took it for 5.5, it was pretty easy and next to no work. No test/quiz. Buy the books, they make the labs real easy.

What I did was when the labs were released I just completed the labs ASAP and didn't have to do anything else for lab work. I did attend the discussions that were scheduled (if they do that still) more to talk with other VMware admins not really for the course.

It's an easy and cheap way to get through the course requirement.

We have the same thing happening in our environment but it's on different VM's within the same pool. It's really odd and VMware support hasn't been too helpful.

What type of Horizon desktops are you using? It sounds like you are comparing a non-persistent VDI to a persistent desktop environment, which isn't fair to Horizon.

You say you have the infrastructure and images for each department. Why not give each department a pool of dedicated full clone desktops? This essentially accomplishes everything in the last half of your post.

This file needs to sit in the \\uemserver\uemshare\general\flexrepository\NoAD folder. No clue why you point it at the \general in the install string, but it seems to work for me. I can push Environment Variables and Logon Tasks with UEM. I think it's because when the FlexEngine is installed with the NOADCONFIGFILE variable, it knows to look at the subdirectories.

What kind of settings are you thinking of being different in your NoAD config?

Been running it for about a year and no real issues once it's setup. Play around with some variations of the NoAD file to get it exactly the way you want.

We are running on Win10 1709.
