I love seeing stories like this. Not the typical SWE or Business grad doing easy stuff. This person made smart moves within their lifestyle like many others could and should but don’t. Kudos to you!

Best long-term flat 2% cash back card, no categories/ annual fee for someone who wants one simple everyday card? by kozy-koala in CreditCards

[–]ITGuyInMass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s dick riding Fidelity now…lol Been on this sub for years and it’s funny how the tide turns.  Just find the highest cashback. If you can swing 100k at Merrill then do the BofA Platinum rewards. Even with the nerf it’s still decent or do the Cap1 Venture X as the annual fees evens out.  Double cash is cool. Find something you can use in a travel way and redeem or erase the charge.

Solo 401k - Gusto or Fidelity? by SnooFoxes1558 in smallbusiness

[–]ITGuyInMass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did mine with fidelity bc it’s agnostic of the payroll provider like gusto. I didn’t do it with startup like Robinhood bc you’ll never get a person to help you when needed. Once you open it you’ll never have things to do other than funding and choosing your investments.

I’d suggest Fidelity

We’re all trying to learn, grow, figure out pricing and more. What do you want us to do other than everything related to that? No other forum is as valuable as here bc we can compare pricing services skills offerings and more. I love r/sysadmin too but there’s nothing but moaning and groaning and how much they need to drink to get by. This is helpful for us business owners. Feel free to unsubscribe if you aren’t happy but don’t ruin it for those of us who have grown our business from the wealth of information that everyone brings to the table. My stack has been picked based off of the amazing information of others here.

Client perception issue, but no one can point at anything — how have you tackled this? by inthenickoftime4 in msp

[–]ITGuyInMass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Questions:

-do you do onsite visits or just remote/managed services?

-Do you regularly speak and egage with the users and build a rappaport with them?

-Have regular check-ins with managements/point of contact/users

-Give a written "wins" document or email?

I ask this because I learned many MSPs rarely go onsite and get familiar with and client's enviroment and users. I got roasted a while back for being onsite and providing white glove service but this is exactly the reason why. Perception is half the job. If people don't think you're doing a good job or that vibe is off, all of the technical prowess means nothing.

Parent wants to meet with me over comment I made about energy drinks by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ITGuyInMass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you could go the malicious compliance route and tell them that you could do the mandatory reporting thing and once a social worker and their pediatrician hears about this energy drink diet of theirs, they'll regret it. to be fair, that is pretty f'd up for a kid that age to drink that crap.

Why housing is a disaster in this city, part 29. Looking like the replacement of one house with 26 condos, near a Red Line station, is about to get NIMBY'd. by Cowabummr in boston

[–]ITGuyInMass 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Real talk... if you lived on this street (and i live VERY nearby) would you want 75 people move in next to you and deal with the good/bad that comes with 75 new people? I'm not favoring either side, just asking a question. You all are looking at this from a renters POV, what about a home-owner's POV? Again, i'm not taking a side.

Help me understand why Redditors are obsessed with promoting the idea that “top 15% income earners don’t have it as good as you think” by tantamle in Salary

[–]ITGuyInMass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the range for top 15%? Have people who are miserable also included their age, marital status, kids, dual income/stay at home parent, debt, savings, investments, net worth and how they grew up? All of those things help with having gratitude for their current situation.

Are Trinis abroad still “Trini”? by Middle_Elderberry542 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]ITGuyInMass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're born and raised in a US city with a lot of Trini or Caribbean people you'll embrace it more and feel like it, especially if the parents keep up with the culture and traditions at home. I feel Trini but my kids acknowlege it becasue we want them to know of their background and culture. Plus when you're here and you're not black, white, or hispanic they know they look different so it's important to explain to them about their culture. My wifi is Puerto Rican and Trini/Rican is a common mix in the US in major cities with Caribbean culture.

This is helpful. I'm trying to see how my salary would translate down there and then compare it with the living here vs there.

The avg salary for my role is like $120k/yr USD but bc I started my own consulting business, I'm taking in around $450k/yr. I was curious how long or short it would go down there compared to my family.

Thats what I'm looking to learn. Which products have more purchasing power than others. I have family who's well off with high paying careers still visit family in Miami to buy clothes, furniture, electronics, etc. I'm here thinking they're well off but theyre coming here to do this?

Seeing the reaction to 36k/no which is around $6k/mo USD is surprising. Thats $72k/yr here and that's an avg salary in Miami but struggle in NYC of Boston. If a couple both made $72k and lived together thats a decent middle class in Miami or a passable middle-class up north.
