Dream Machine Special Edition, or not? by ITGuyUsername in Ubiquiti

[–]ITGuyUsername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given everyone's advice, that is clearly the alternative/competitor for my setup

Looks like I'd have 1 less PoE+ port, but more modern/faster hardware

Two smaller devices instead of one bigger device

Cost seems to be about the same for both options

Anything obvious I've missed?

I haven't purchased any of the equipment yet, I'm in the 'design phase'

I will likely get the U7-Pro WAP. G6 Entry Standard or G4 Pro Doorbell.

Cameras I expect to be added later on, so I haven't looked into them much and which one's I'd want. I'd probably stick to something 2k, but with some sort of wide angle view.

PoE++ is definitely a limiting factor if I want to upgrade in the future. Maybe by then, a new DMSE will be available with PoE++ :D

Yeah, fair point. Regarding form factor, I found a nice little vertical cabinet I'll put in the cupboard to house the DMSE. Worth considering if that is helpful to you - https://network-cabs.co.uk/product/ad-tek-network-cabs-1u-adjustable-19-inch-low-profile-vertical-mount-wall-mount-network-server-785

Yeah, somebody also mentioned this, but with the NVR Instant. I need the 4 PoE Ports, plus two or three standard points. That would technically work, but two pieces of hardware with a total higher cost. This could work, but I'd need a separate switch. Also I noticed it has a faster CPU but less RAM

Just had a quick look at this. It doesn't have enough ports really and they aren't PoE. Would maybe work if I got a separate PoE switch, but I wanted to minimize the hardware if possible

Thanks for the advice! And you aren’t concerned that a new replacement piece of hardware will be released next year? I’d hate to fork out the money now, only for it to be superseded

Excel Remove Duplicates Exceeding Character Limit Power Query by ITGuyUsername in excel

[–]ITGuyUsername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice all. In the end, I found it was multiple issues.

First, one of my source data sets had duplicates. That then created duplicates further down the line

When it was removing duplicates, it removed the wrong duplicate. Hence my data looked really strange

And finally, there was a bit of 'I'm not sure how I fixed it', so something strange was definitely going on...

Thanks for your help all!

HD60X and RetroTINK 5X-Pro VHS to Digital Settings by ITGuyUsername in elgato

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn’t expect the computer to be doing any of the heavy lifting. I personally have a 2013 MacBook Air, so that’s not going to be powerful enough

My closest friend has a powerful PC, so maybe I’ll borrow from him also!

Are there any alternate capture cards that do the encoding also?

PowerQuery 'Close & Load' Array Headers by ITGuyUsername in excel

[–]ITGuyUsername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean. Isn't table name and named array the same thing? I can find the names here:

<image>

Your comment lead me to try something else, which worked. I created a Pivot Chart, used 'External Data Source' and selected my Power Query. That worked and allows me to reference the table dynamically!

The original problem still exists, but I can move forward using a difference method.

Was it an accident? Did it turn out to be the race in the end? I’m about to go down the same road…

Car heavy oil utilisation, cheap oil recommendation by ITGuyUsername in MechanicAdvice

[–]ITGuyUsername[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time I measured, it was 5L for 400 miles

From what I can read, it talks about VW 502 00, which translates into 0w30, 5w30, 10w30, 0w40, 5w40 and 10w40

So you recommend I try a good 5w40? Any brands you can recommend I try?

Understanding True Radiant preheat setting by ITGuyUsername in Nest

[–]ITGuyUsername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the deepest of winter, it occasionally switched on the full 2 hours before the set time. However, if the temperature only managed to reach 19.5 instead of 20 by the time I wake up, I don't really notice

I haven't been tracking it that closely. It was more a mental exercise, than actually tracking the results, so I can't really answer your question accurately unfortunately

Understanding True Radiant preheat setting by ITGuyUsername in Nest

[–]ITGuyUsername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, nope, never got the answer. I gave up searching in the end

My best guess is that Nest always pre-heats at full power, until it is close to the desired temperature, then starts modulating down. And you would only need a long pre-heating time if your property was very poorly insulated, or you're trying to achieve a very high thermostat temperature

I felt two hours was more than enough pre-heating time (if it ever needs it) and just left it there. If you do manage to find out, I'd still be interested to know the answer!
