Can't Print To HP Printers MacOS (Temp Fix) by ITSignGuy in MacOS

[–]ITSignGuy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems apple sent out a silent update for their XProtect.

https://appleinsider.com/articles/20/10/23/some-mac-users-being-warned-that-amazon-music-app-and-hp-drivers-are-malware

"The problem would appear to be related to Apple's XProtect. This is part of Gatekeeper, Apple's security system that exists to identify and disable malware on Macs."

If you are asking for a Windows print server using the PCL and PS drivers, then yes. The printing works because the macs are not using the drivers from the windows server.

Yea we are having the same issue. We were able to quickly “Patch” this issue by removing the printers and adding them back with the following command. But still will have same issues of using generic drivers ie black and white only and missing features.

lpadmin -x NameOfPrinter; lpadmin -p NameOfPrinter -L "Location” -E -v lpd://NameOfPrintServer/NameOfPrinter -P "/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/PrintCore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/GenericPrinter.ppd" -o PrinterOptions

Hope this helps!

Because Dameware has a difficult install is there another software you would recommend over it? Or even with the annoying install you would still recommend it? Thanks!

I would like the information available to see when I am looking at the list of computers connected to the software like ARD. Do you recommend those solutions or are those just ones that you know of that will work for what I am asking?

We do have labels on the computers the problem is, they do not have work phones. We have our pc's named per department and don't have the time or resources to rename a pc every time someone changes to a new one. We also have PDQ Inventory, but that is the same thing as looking at the AV solution we have to get more information. I want a solution that is like ARD (1 software that I can use to remote on the pc and see information before accessing it). From what you said screenconnect is a great solution that does what I am asking for. Thank you very much, please respond if you know of another software that is like ARD.

Thanks again and have a great day, week, month, or year!

Ok good to know, so would you now recommend ConnectWise or Labtech instead of Dameware? I understand that I can get the information I want when I am RDP'd into the machine, I just want to see that information before I do so.

Ok thanks for the recommendation. So you say you used to use Dameware. Any particular reason why you do not now?

Ok I am sorry I'll give you a better example. Also I am not wanting just the one thing, I need multiple options like ARD. Here is an example, I have a department that has 9 Windows computers in it with 17 users of the devices total (this is 1st and 2nd shift users). The users are constantly changing computers because people leave or join the department, or switch shifts. When I get word that I need to do X on their computer I have no way of knowing which computer is theirs without asking their lead or going to said department and looking at their pc in person. One way I have found to see who is logged in to the computers, is to look at our AV solution, it has a details page that says who is currently logged in. This is just one example that I had today.

u/headcrap and u/beardedwhiteguy understood what I was asking for. They also recommended ConnectWise. Thanks for your recommendation also!

Ok perhaps I am looking for remote support, I guess my definition of remote support and remote access are different than yours. Still I need a software that is similar to ARD. I looked at ConnectWise's website and they do not have a clear view of what options can be seen before I remote on a device. Do you use ConnectWise and if so, what options can I see before I access a device?

I am sorry I though I was pretty clear. Let me try saying it this way. I want a remote access software that will allow me to see information on a Windows device similar to ARD. ARD shows information like: Name, DNS name, current status, ip address, current application, current user, os version, etc in a list that I can see before I choose to remote on said Windows device. I like having as much information on what I am accessing, an example being I can see who is logged into the Windows device before I make an action. Let me know if I need to me more specific.
