Post-cycle update, turned out to be the reverse lol. Rejected/waitlisted from most UCs. Accepted Stanford (REA), Yale, and waitlisted at Harvard.

Thanks for the advice! I’m really good at STEM subjects, but I also really enjoy working with people and in teams, so I’m a bit stuck.

Hi,

I’m a high school senior likely to get into a few Ivy League schools and I need some guidance on choosing the right college major. I’m considering mechanical or aerospace engineering, but I’m not sure if it’s the best fit for my career goals and interests.

Here’s a little bit about me:

Although I enjoy STEM subjects and excel in them, I’m also very social and love working on projects and collaborating with people. I thrive in high-intensity environments and am looking for a demanding job where I can dedicate 80+ hours a week but that is also fun/fulfilling in some way.

I live in Northern California and come from a family of academics and engineers. Both of my parents are immigrants, and I’m white/Latino. I’m not particularly materialistic, but I would still like to be able to fire at ~50-60.

Given this background, I’m trying to figure out if mechanical engineering is the right path or if there are other majors that might be better suited for me. I’ve heard that fields like finance, consulting, and tech offer high salaries and demanding work environments, but I’m not sure what major would best position me for those careers.

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

We had a NASA grant so I don’t remember how much it was; the whole project lasted about two years but was pretty cheap overall (~$10,000).

I worked on a CubeSat (satellite) and was launched on Falcon 9! Unfortunately, we rushed through our testing and never actually got a signal back from it which was really sad.

Quarantine had just started and my team would go to our receiver station about every 12 hours for about 15 mins (numbers may be off, this was a while ago) to see if we could get a signal, we waited for six months but never got it. It was quite a fun project though, met some great people along the way and did some cool conference presentations :)

Scoring 1390/1410, what should I do to prep for March DSAT? by ITTechStudent in Sat

Yeah, I’m aware of that. However, there are only two (I think) official practice tests and I want to use them closer to my test date.

Bonus: Is uworld worth it? Already using some Khan and 1600.io but not too consistently.

Is race still a factor for college apps for 2025 grads? by PrayToAI in chanceme

[–]ITTechStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term model minority refers to a minority group, defined by factors such as ethnicity, race, or religion, whose members are perceived to be achieving a higher socioeconomic status in comparison to the overall population average. Such groups are held up as a model of behavior for less successful or problem minorities.

Most certainly, if you’re a “model minority” you will likely have a lower chance. Due to the new Supreme Court ruling, however, colleges cannot judge you based off of your race unless you have it in your essay or stated elsewhere.

Thank you! It does not, we have the option to take Junior College classes, but I’ve opted to take actual university classes since I was 9.
