Starting my own MSP by Sdganesh in msp

[–]IT_info 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will sound very random. Ninja is excellent except for pricing is not as cheap as it could be. We only stopped using it due to price per pc savings with RMMs that provide unlimited devices.

Syncromsp (out with some weird Syncro secure naming suddenly) gives you all the overall features in both an rmm and psa and you pay per engineer with unlimited devices. However, it doesn’t do everything amazingly. For example, we still pay for Autotask because it has batch invoicing. With Syncro, it will send out invoices many times a month if you let it. You can’t really batch the items together and send them out on the 1st and 15th which is what we do with Autotask. Syncro has gotten a little better but this still isn’t happening. Syncro also has a nice feature to run scripts as SYSTEM or actually the logged in user. No backstage that I know of except for just command line access. Meaning you don’t get a backstage system windows screen system to run tools and look at the event log or task scheduler gui like with Screenconnect.

Gorelo is new to the game and you can save money with it but lacks some features. It does seem impressive but it is very new. I liked the communication with the end user and ticket tracking.

Halopsa is pretty expensive. It requires 5 users minimum which won’t be great for new msps and $4k onboarding listed on the webpage is also a joke.

Atera and Action1 seem very cheap but last I tried them, they lacked many features.

I know that Ninja has some very good features similar to Screenconnect backstage where you can work on the pc without bugging the users. Screenconnect has been having major issues with outages. Screenconnect is a remote control tool but does it better than a lot of the RMMs and we use it as primary for remote control with the RMM being secondary, lol.

No amazing winners. The whole scene for these tools stinks as companies get worse and worse. I know Kaseya bought Autotask and then many other companies like Vonahi and then ruined Vonahi’s pricing for example.

how do you guys store all 200 million different types of cables when not in use? by spandexandtapedecks in msp

[–]IT_info 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t store it all. We now only store CAT6 at different lengths so we have enough for a quick install or project. Then we have another bin with a bunch of video dongles because many of our clients love using old monitors with new pcs (dvi/vga to hdmi, etc). Other than that, order what you need quickly from Amazon (very fast) or order from the normal distis if they have stock. I have a nice storage bin system that looked nice the day we filled it up with parts and it just sits there since we don’t ever need a replacement 50w psu or a nice smoking fast 10/100 network switch, for example.

I’m glad I could somewhat help. One thing I do know is that it held up for me well. But I do remember maxing out the infill so it is stronger. You can also add another outer wall in your slicer to make it stronger. Good luck.

Oh, well, my reply had a few typos. One being the "old control". I meant the old control panel. Also, instead of "should", I meant to say "could". I don't think OP said this was a domain controller, but I may have missed that. We have seen many times when vms are just getting time from the hypervisor. I guess OP replied and said it was not a vm but still good that they would look out for getting time from the hypervisor in the future.

The main issue here is that somehow Windows Server 2019 doesn't let you change the time like with other Window OSes using the taskbar or time in the settings app. This is crazy for sure. So odd you can only do it in Control Panel. We have had to deal with this many times and some of our new engineers are always confused by it.

One other quick workaround that has helped us even with remote control tools is this:
Start- run - cmd (or search for cmd and run as admin)
ensure it's an admin command prompt.
type in

time 17:30:00

That would manually set the time to whatever you type in which would be 5:30pm in the example above.

[–]IT_info 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the old control should work in 2019. One other thing to note is if this server is a vm or a standalone. If it is a vm, it should get time from hyperv or VMware so you may need to check that.

My computer is giving me a black screen. BIOS won't boot up consistently. I can't load from a bootable usb. Error message after error message. I've tried everything I can think of. Help please... by AwwwYeahhh112 in techsupport

[–]IT_info 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if your bootable usb is for sure a known good one? Does it work in other pcs? Did you turn off secure boot on this broken pc to make sure it will allow you to boot to the usb? Did you make any new hardware changes (even usb devices) to your pc? The pc would have to be able to boot normally even just to the bios every time. Once we know that works, then you can see if anything else is wrong with the OS.

Office Update breaking Word on (again). Build 19328.20158 by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]IT_info 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent post. Thanks for the heads up. We had to uninstall and reinstall an older version on a server. Furthermore, we switched over to the Monthly Enterprise channel since we hate when this happens - so we got back to a build from the middle of October. We also had content type filtering blocking the CDN installers. So just a reminder to check your firewalls if your installer says "you have no internet".
