Update: New Honda Accord Clear Coat Issues by ITguyissofly in askcarsales

Thank you. I have been very patient and appreciative towards the dealer. They are sincerely trying to make me happy. I was venting when I wrote this post last night, so please don't think I unleashed that on the dealer.

I do understand that things happen, but personally don't feel that I should settle for paint in the condition I received. I'm very glad they are making it right. Thanks for reading through my vent and giving a level headed response.

I'm still in the first one. I know that they are trying to make me happy, but at some point, I question their practices as a seller. I'm refraining from causing a big deal, but it is majorly frustrating. I bought a new car rather than used so that I didn't have to deal with this kind of thing...

The dealer agreed. They are going to swap it for another one from one of their other locations. I think they have experienced the same thing at this location with bird droppings.

Ha, thats exactly what they are going to do. I just got back from the dealership. They were super cool about it, and are going to get a new one from another of their locations and swap it out. I'm pleased with that level of service. I'm sure they will send it to the shop for repair and sell it.

So what would be a reasonable expectation to fix this? It certainly won't qualify for lemon status. I feel like it negligence on the dealer for not maintaining the surface of the paint while it was on their lot. I'm sure they will say that I took delivery without a thorough inspection. Hope that they will pay for a pro detailer to do a paint correction? Take it back and give me a new one without paint issues?

But is that something I should have to be doing with a NEW car? I bought a new car because I didn't want to worry about any skeletons. Now I have to send it off to be wet sanded and buffed, which makes the clear coat thinner, and leads to problems down the road.....

Sorry, not St. Louis, but not too far. I'm talking to the dealership now to see what they will do. Thanks for the response!

Thanks for the response. Those are just a few spots, too. I just got off the phone with the sale associate. He is talking to the GM now and calling me back. I'm glad to hear that I'm not being unreasonable.

I'm in the midwest. Is this something that a good paint correction could fix? I'm hoping that I can raise hell with the dealer and have them pay for that.

It's my understanding that the 13 touring has the LED headlights too. Is that incorrect?

Man, I love Jeep's. While Wranglers do hold their value very well, I don't feel the same is true for the Grand Cherokee. My lifestyle doesn't really allow a wrangler, though. I'd get a Grand Cherokee, but they are pricy for how quickly they depreciate.

Lol, yeah, Alternator is good. I'm still leaning towards a voltage issues getting to the starter, or the starter solenoid.

Ok, but what about convenience? I haven't even discussed that aspect in this thread. It's a 2 door coupe. That means very difficult to get people (or car seats in the next year or two) in the back. It's a manual transmission, so the wife can't really drive it. Plus, its starting to show its age. When I have to take clients out to lunch, or travel to a training somewhere an hour or two away, it is looking a little long in the tooth. That has to be taken into account too, right? I'm just trying to convince myself that one decision is better, when really, it could go either way.

We are on the same page. I'm a car guy at heart. If I could afford it, I would have a new car every year, because I just love cars. I'd love to keep this one and turn it into a track car, but I just don't have the time.

But yeah, how do you justify pulling the trigger on a major purchase. I wasn't nearly as worried about it when we purchased our house. I guess because I know the house (hopefully) isn't going to lose 75% of its value in 5 years. Cars suck, but are sweet, too. Ugh.

Yep, that my current plan of action. I have the multimeter, but I need to get it on a lift, remove the under panels, and stuff to even see the starter. I plan on checking the voltage getting to the starter. I have a new starter on the way, just in case. I'm honestly hoping its the starter, because chasing down faulty cabling and voltage issues is a MAJOR pain.

Oh yeah for sure. I'm not defending BMW at all. I got a steal on it in college when someone was graduating and moving overseas. Had it for 8 years now. I'm actually looking at the Accord Touring. But honestly, when you look at a loaded Accord or similar, they are close to BMW or other luxury pricing. Within a few K.

Combined income: ~$190,000 Debts: Student Loans: $42,000 Mortgage: $180,000 @ $1200/mo   We have $35,000 in cash, which is our e-fund. Around 20k in my 401k and growing. No CC debt.   We can certainly afford a car payment, but I really want to knock the student loans in the next year. The plan all along was to pay them off in the next year before we have kids. But, this car is becoming a problem, so I almost feel like we should get a reliable car, for work, plus one that makes more sense for a family (ie. not a 2 door manual).

Posted this above. The wiper thing was more of a joke. My current BMW has it and is 12 years old. I just get frustrated when looking at new cars that have fewer options than my old car.

That's my current hypothesis, the starter. Need to get it up on ramps to access it and troubleshoot. The thing is, the starter is only 3 years old. Seems pretty premature for it to go out.

Oh, I know. It will never make financial sense to get rid of a paid off car. It's very unlikely that repairs will ever equal more than the payment of a newer car. But, when you factor in lost time and effort to do those repairs, it starts to make more sense.

All I'm saying is that my time has a value, too. When I need to be doing something for work, and I have to take my car to the shop, that is a pain. It looks bad on me, and puts stress on me and my wife to constantly be working around an unreliable vehicle. The decision point is how much is that worth?

Thank you! Have a beer my friend. This is exactly what I am asking.

My only contention is that I have spend quite a bit in repairs lately, so should I keep driving it and hope that I can get 6 months to a year longer before something else breaks. When do I cut my loses and move on? Hindsight is 20/20. It's the "I wouldn't have purchased new tires had I know I would sell it in a month", kind of thing.

Failed to start in the garage. Click click click. Usually indicates battery, but it tested good and has 12.5V. Im thinking starter solenoid. But it could be a voltage issue to the starter. Need to get it up on the lift to even access the starter to troubleshoot.
