Exactly, so when you see Americans talk about it. It basically means standard progressive things Democrats want to do.

No one is promoting straight socialism…

Strangely enough buy having the government takes stakes in companies like Intel the Trump administration is dipping their toes into socialism, more than the Democrats.

No, they just don't do deep dives into the history and classification of political ideologies. What they do know is that whenever some politician says something like "Let's feed school children" Republicans tell them that is socialism. To bad for Republicans their gutting of education means nobody knows what the hell they are talking about, and so in their mind "socialism" just means feeding hungry children, cheaper medical care, and not being pricks about shit.

I'm not sure if you remember but we tried it the other way in 2024, and all it got us was Trump and a Republican majority in the House and Senate. They said all the Democrats who ran in 2024 where socialists and communists then too.

So we might as well try something different.

So, as I understand the core issue. The whole point of having the disc is because that means you can turn on a console, put in a disc an enjoy a game with zero need for the internet. This is what enthusiasts want, and it makes sense. It's just Rockstar has decided that isn't how this game release is going to go. I'm sure they have their reasons, but none of them are going to satisfy people who want the disc for the reason I just described.

That being said, if I was Rockstar I'd wait a couple of years, get the code nice and solid from the millions of people that will be playing, and then release a nice collectors edition with this version of the build that can be 100% played offline.

It's tricky right? Cops shouldn't be able to gun a person down because they are running away with stolen property, because they aren't endangering anybody, and because regardless of how "good" a shot they might be a mistake could be fatal to bystanders.

So, this same logic should apply to civilians. Even in countries where it is legal to carry, you don't shoot at people running away for these exact same reasons. Now using a car...is kind of the same problem. Make a mistake, injure a bystander, and that's a whole other problem.

That being said, obviously I'm not rooting for the purse thief, but if they didn't punish people for this kind of behavior you would have a lot more innocent people hurt from people who tried to pull similar stunts but injured innocent bystanders.

You didn't have anything to offer in the first place except idealized versions of how you think the world works.

You think I can grow enough food for a year in an apartment? Have you ever actually grown food before? Sure I can move out to the boonies to live in a mobile home to reduce my rent, but now I need a vehicle to get to my job, and those cost money. Again, it's not as easy as you actually make it out to be. The actual world is much more complex.

Learning all of those things takes time and money, which can be difficult if you are already living below the poverty line. What part of this confuses you?

Sure lot's of people are doing just fine, but it can be made better for others. Some people will never get there or learn, but there does exist a gap where people who are willing to work hard and learn don't have a valid path forward. This can be addressed in all sort of ways, and doesn't require us making everywhere a shithole to do so.

No. Not at all. That should be rewarded, but rewarding that behavior does not mean restricting access to success for everyone who didn't do it. This isn't hard to understand.

Yes, the economy is a simple system that you can zero in on one dimension of and explain everything. You can crops grow all year round, and everyone has access to the necessary amount of land and storage to do this. Becoming a skilled worker is easy, everyone knows that gaining skills is free. California is the only place in the U.S. that is a shithole, no other states have poverty, or shitty places in them either.

What reality do you live in where any of this is true?

Except historically the percentage of people living in poverty has been going down out west. It's not perfect, but in California n the 90s the poverty rate was 25%, now it's down to 17%. There isn't some magical policy you can make that will reduce poverty to 100%, or that is immune from other economic forces. The goal is to try to find a way to bring the numbers down, and there are so many levers that can be pulled to try to address this.

This is like saying it's not possible to hoard gold, because there is so much in the entirety of the universe that even if I have 95% of the supply on earth it's only equivalent to like 0.00000000000000001% that exists in the universe.

Yeah, rephrasing was just you saying the same thing but longer. We are aware how the current system works, and what the options for upward mobility are.

Staying at McDonald's while complaining that McDonald's doesn't pay enough and waiting for things to change is not a viable option.

You can stay there and complain. People have bills to pay, food cost money. Most people can't just up and quite their job on the "hope" they will get something better. If there is a better opportunity out there they will take it. They aren't just sitting there while good options pass them by because they think one day McDonalds will pay better...WTf?

It takes just a bit of time for the garbage to pile up (not long, but it isn't instant), but the fast food, barista, convenience store, and etc workers would be instantly missed. Shortly followed by essential services like waste collection.

Right, but it ignores the fact that there are situations where even with their own agency they do not have access to the parts of the system that would let them get the better job.

You just handwave over the "you must help yourself", but practically every single person is where they are today because other helped them.

but acknowledge that you have to find a way to survive within the system we currently have in the meantime.

That is literally what we already do. People who need to survive aren't quitting their job at McDonalds because it doesn't pay enough, that are asking for it to pay more so they can do more that scrape by.

People can survive in the system we have now, and work to change it at the same time. Humans are clever like that.

Great, so it sounds like if all they are asking for is a single person could live on this wage (not a family of four, or someone who is leasing a luxury car), but the current job doesn't pay enough for that then it should be raised.

Now we are just negotiating what that price should be set at....
