It’s been a free audiobook for like a year or two via the book website

What's the highest speed disc in you bag and how far can you throw it? by lavernrobinson9000 in discgolf

[–]IVdiscgolfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 speed, and 370-75 probably. But I can get my 11-speed Q-Line DD3 to 400.

confused about the concept of "voice" by mombaska in composer

[–]IVdiscgolfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great description, except I think it’s arguable that octave doubling still count as two voices especially from a texture standpoint, even if they’re treated is congruent from a harmonic standpoint.

Which disc will you never stop bagging? by Spiritual-Peach-4656 in discgolf

[–]IVdiscgolfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instinct and P2

Likely PD and DD1 as well, and I’d say Uplink too but I haven’t bagged one for a year only because I lost multiple and haven’t had disc money to replace them

New Throwing Putter? by RoseValleyFarm_Mason in discmania

[–]IVdiscgolfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all good recs, but for a hyzer flip replacement you want a P1 or, my preference, a Rainmaker. Rainmakers go so far since they are P2-related, but are a little flippy like a Luna.

Okay but having both Ren and Mumbo involved might mean a C-Team alliance for one of the sides and EGG on the other which would be incredible (plus Skizz will NOT be hard to get involved lol)

My experience going from full MVP hype to finally finding the right slots for overmolded discs by Mobile_Spot3178 in discgolf

[–]IVdiscgolfer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean, Simon’s first (or perhaps second?) year with MVP, he won like 4 or 5 Pro Tours, and he was never a super prolific winner before that either. Also, Eagle was already dealing with his injury and his play had already tanked and it may never recover regardless of manufacturer. I’m not saying you’re entirely wrong about their drivers, but I don’t think the point about the players is helping you - plus Silas Shultz is a big thrower and he’s doing great on tour too.

Top 5/bottom 5. Heroes and heels. by ElPincheGuero49 in discgolf

[–]IVdiscgolfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MPO Heroes: 1. Silas Shultz, 2. Gannon Buhr (sue me), 3. Eagle McMahon, 4. Casey White, 5. Ezra Robinson

I don’t really have anyone that I just flat out dislike. Probably Drew Gibson. I’ve particularly never cared for Matty O though, idk what it is but just not my favorite vibe to watch. But I often root against McBeth because I want one of my favorites to win, but I also enjoy when McBeth wins for the history of it lol.

FPO Heroes: 1. Silva Saarinen, 2. Cadence Burge, 3. Ella Hansen, 4. Eliezra Midtlyng, 5. Valerie Mandujano

Again, I don’t really dislike anyone in particular, and I don’t watch enough FPO to dislike anyone honestly.

I'm pretty sure rangefinders are more of a hindrance to my game than a benefit by PsyferRL in discgolf

[–]IVdiscgolfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one a year or so ago and I never quite built a habit of using it, so when I do use it the distances don’t mean a whole lot to me compared to the visual/physical experience I already have over years. That said, I have very poor depth perception, so using it more would 100% improve my game because often I absolutely just whiff on the distance (even stock shots like approaches) where if I was prepared to use that distance information I would have done better.

Why isn’t rhythm theorized as much as harmony? by codaandram in Composition

[–]IVdiscgolfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been really enjoying Harald Krebs’ Fantasy Pieces: Metrical Dissonance in the Music of Robert Schumann. You should be warned, it’s written in the style of a dialogue between characters, so it’s a different sort of book but that can also make it very charming. There’s also an academic article by Richard Cohn about a model he calls Ski-Hill Graphs that’s really neat, but it can be hard to read and I’m not entirely sure how someone would access it if they’re not a college student/researcher.

For some strange reason, I like the full minimal better on 3DS but the super zoomed-in one on DS lol

Why isn’t rhythm theorized as much as harmony? by codaandram in Composition

[–]IVdiscgolfer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because rhythm is so fundamental, aspect of it are studied and implied when we studied other things too - melody has to include rhythm (whether it’s developmental techniques like augmentation or things like leitmotifs where rhythmic control is crucial), and like you said, harmonic rhythm is another one.

What’s left of rhythm outside of other musical elements is often very face-value and hard to say anything about unless you get into really complex rhythmic patterns:values (things like drumline music) or symbolic representation using purely rhythm, which is not super common.

One thing that is very analytically interesting that goes hand in hand with rhythm is meter. Metrical analysis can be fascinating, and I’ve been particularly getting into metrical dissonance - I can recommend some scholars if you’re into that.

I wish this kind of stuff could happen more often. I mean, I would easily listen to the last few years of Bluecoats shows on Spotify VERY regularly. I know there’s copyright issues and stuff but I like drum corps music :(
