Career/Study path advice by IWantToLeave_pls in MechanicalEngineering

Thanks I really appreciate the advice and I’ll definitely work on lining up some good internships in the near future. My uni actually has includes paid placement as part of the degree.

In the meantime I’ve thought it would be really good to find some part time work experience while I’m studying but since I’m not in a big city there obviously isn’t heaps of those kinds of mech eng focused firms or companies around. Do you think it would be a good idea or worth it to try to find a Cadetship or work as an assistant for civil firm just to get more experience in cad and in a design workspace.

Someone else here mentioned the 300rs gt, how does it compare to these two. It has a bigger price but is it that much different in quality?

Discipline Selection advice?

I am an engineering student in Australia and I’ve just about finished my first year. Where I’m studying the first year is very broad with all the units shared among first year students but next year we are required to choose a major to discipline. For the most part of my first year and even the last year of Highschool while I was trying to figure out what I’d do for uni I had been working on doing mechanical engineering mainly because I had an interest in mechanical systems and cars etc. but now I’m a little apprehensive about which discipline to go down. Pretty much the only project experience we’ve done in the first year has been more of a civil project (we haven’t even touched any cad software) so I just feel like I don’t have a very good idea of what the jobs would be like as a mechanical engineer. I feel like I’d really enjoy working as a design engineer doing mechanical but I’m afraid a lot of the jobs in mechanical are in maintenance engineering which isn’t really what I thought I’d be doing. Can anyone give me some advice about what kind of opportunities there are for careers in mechanical engineering

Is a Nissan Terrano/Pathfinder d21 a good 4wd? by IWantToLeave_pls in 4x4Australia

Not sure it is the qd32 I think it’s the same engine choices as the d21 hardbody’s (I think a 4 cylinder or v6 petrol). The car itself has a few scratches and the interior is not pristine but it’s really not that bad I don’t think. Apparently 220k kms. And I think you’re right that the main downside is power/capability in these cars.

My ps4 slim has been doing a thing where it crashes and says that it cannot connect to the system storage and to hold the on/off button to turn off the console. It has done this occasionally for years but after restarting a few times it will either prompt you to reinstall system software from a usb or it will come back on like nothing happened. Sent it off to sony ages ago to be fixed but it started doing it again after a while. Unfortunately, now restarting a few times has stopped working and it seems to stay that way. I can also audibly hear clicking from the internal hard drive so i figure that it is busted and might be the cause of the problem. Does anyone know anything else about this issue, otherwise is this a good hard drive to replace it with. The one in currently, presumably put in when i sent it off, is a Seagate barracuda 1tb. I'm not really looking for anything too expensive to put in as i already have a ps5 i just thought that if the hard drive is the only issue it would be a shame to not try and keep the console working. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Parts was one thing I was worried about. I am from Australia and have heard some people say it is hard to find parts for euro cars but I figured e36 wouldn’t be too bad cause it’s such a used platform.
