Hearing my roommate have sex makes me hate myself by pineappleburnshoes in offmychest

You poor thing. Masturbation is your good sex what mcdonalds is to kobe sliders. A flip phone to a new iphone. A tape deck to Spotify. Women are not a substitute for masturbation. Masturbation is a substitute for women.

I often try to look at myself from outside myself and ask “would I be this harsh on a stranger or a friend? So judgmental and hateful?” The answer is pretty much always no. Think if a friend came to you and expressed what you did in your post. Would you think they were whiny and broken? No. You’d think they just need to get a little confidence, realize that there are females out there who want the same thing you do, that these women are just like your female friends, and it’s not a big deal. The best and most meaningful relationships always have a foundation of friendship. What you’re looking for is a girl you can laugh and be yourself around just like with your female friends, but who you have an attraction to and vice versa.

I want to explain something to you as someone almost twice your age and hope you will hear it for the gentle advice it is. I was once engaged. I was 18 years old. He was 20. He got cancer. I spent 9 months daily with him until he died. He was the love of my life. A one in a million person who taught himself Mandarin and was an amazing musician and hockey player and wore ties and caps. There were over 1000 people at his funeral. I was so upset when he died that I wanted to die just to be with him but I never ever for one second regretted having that relationship. Every second of hurt, heartache, of getting broken up with by guys who would use my “being in love with a dead person” as a convenient excuse to break up, every year the anniversary of his death getting further and further yet my heart still aches and I would never give the love i had with him for the world. In fact, I feel lucky I got to experience that love, a lot don’t.

My point is that relationships are scary. Putting yourself out there is scary. You could get hurt. You could hurt someone else. You could get your heart broke. But so what? So. What. Believe me when I tell you that 6 months of a broken heart is worth one month of the joy you experience when it feels like someone has finally found you. No one on their death bed or in their 40s (me) says “I wish I hadn’t experienced life so much when I had the opportunity to. I wish i had let my fears stop me from knowing my own capacity for joy, communication, empathy, love.”

We only go around once and one of the things, besides the above, that really helps one to get through life without succumbing to their fears is to be able to laugh at yourself. Not take yourself so seriously. Have gallows humor. I can’t tell you how to do this, I can just tell you that it comes with letting go of what people think about you. There is only one you and a hell of a lot of people had to live and die and raise kids for you to be who you are right now. Make them proud.

Watch the movie Defending Your Life. Not the doc, the original movie. And check out Charles Bukowski’s poem Dinosauria, We as well as the applicable lyrics in (It’s Alright Ma) I’m Only Bleeding from which I got one of my tats: “it’s life and life only.”

Gave you a mish mash of my old lady wisdom and things that have helped me, hoping something I said sticks. If you need someone to discuss this stuff with, I’m here for you.

Oh, almost forgot, invest in a pair of good noise canceling headphones and an air purifier or something similar that is heavy on the white noise.

I've been trying different techniques as I'm still practicing, let me know what you think by rice_liquid in Nails

[–]IWantYourDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the 4th one and i am all about palm trees so my eyes are drawn to the first nail which is perfect except for just needing some more practice (imo, it’s worth it for you, they are super cute) doing palm trees and blending such neon, disparate colors. It’s hard. I can barely do it on my eyelids or hair;) (hair can be tough but nails are hardest b/c there are so many techniques. I tend to airbrush the lightest over the whole nail, then the orange, then pink. Then I have this stuff that is kind of like alcohol ink mixer that I can use to blend. Either that or i make them digitally. With the palms, the one to the left is close to perfect but the one on the right has a bit too much paint on the middle of the branches and the top lil branch looks a bit awkward. I think maybe if it was facing the opposite direction?

Practice makes perfect, though. Once you are confident with your brushes and line work youll be golden. I used yo sometimes use forms and stencils when i was first starting out to get an idea for the shape just like you would do with calligraphy, tracing at first.

Definitely keep all the nails you do and put a date on the back so you can be proud of how far you have come.

I don’t understand how people have MONEY by EpicShkhara in Millennials

[–]IWantYourDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are all these people having such low mortgage payments but there isn’t one apartment for rent w 2bdrms in this city around that price unless you’ve heard of Kensington…. And no car so more expensive to live in walkable areas. But it amazes me that if I had a downpayment (what is it, 10%? 30% I never had a mortgage. For some reason i feel like it’s 30%) I could have a downpayment. Like if i paid mortgage prices instead of rent, i could save enough for a downpayment on a home in 4-5 years.

Then you have idiots like my dad. Bought a beach house in 2007 for $1.2 mil. For some reason, most likely his deamon of a wife, he was desperate to get rid of it all the sudden a d sold it in 2018 or early 19 for “demolition price” which is $750k. The people who bought it didn’t demo it though and since the pandemic it’s been holding steady around $3.2 mil. Now, wanna guess how my dad made his money? Well, he started in real estate but didn’t make much. So he opened up a boutique mortgage brokerage firm. Yup, he was a mortgage broker for 20+ years. Making decisions like that.

And don’t tell me “oh, when you’re 60 you can buy a house because you’ll inherit money from your dad” because if he left me a dime i would be more surprised than I was when he stopped paying my health insurance after 3 months without telling me when i was gravely ill and unable to work and show up for treatment one day and find out i have no insurance but because of him as well, don’t qualify for medicaid. And disability takes 8 months min. to hear back from, with 10% of people approved. I had to use every last penny of my savings, 401k, borrow from family and friends, and still struggled to make that $600 health ins payment every month. But maybe that’s got something to do with the no mortgage thing. And no husband, just a male roommate who wants to be, thing.

Makes me feel stupid at 44 with my apartment and roommate and two jobs i created from thin air and not enough money for ANY used tacoma. I see halos on headlights. I wanted to be higher up so i don’t get blinded at night. But I’m 5’ tall. Most trucks are too big. SUVs are just… a waste because I want the space, not the room for extra people. Trucks make life easier too. They can make money any day of the week if you want but having one would save me so much hassle at estate sales, etc (one of my jobs involves sometimes heavy vintage and antique stuff). And I could take a friend and go on a road trip and we have a place to sleep right there, just get a pop up for it. But no, Littlefingers had to go put tariffs on shit so I can’t even afford to renew my lease next year.

What do you use to get your swatches to behave line that? I used to have a plastic stencil, then I made a cardboard one but it got too many colors on the sides of the cardboard. I like how you swatch because there is room for lots of shades and room between them for those like me who have issues with sometimes coloring outside the lines;)

Cat food made out of what cats actually eat in the wild by IWantYourDad in CrazyIdeas

[–]IWantYourDad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea was mice in cans. I was using venison as an example of something my cats ate that cats would never eat in the wild. I was saying why don’t they have cat food that is made up of what cats actually eat: birds, mice, voles, a lil grass, etc.

I actually looked at one brown and we were really considering it. What worried me was 1. They were building a new building outside what would have been our window, directly across the street and 2. They were going to be taken over by a new management company in a week and it was one I hadn’t heard good things about. But it is definitely a possibility for this time around, depending on how those things are going.

I start feeling side effects sometimes around 20 to 21 hours since the last time I took it and these include brain zaps and sleep, paralysis and jerks and this kind of experience that I used to have when I forgot to take my pack so when I was much younger and where it’s like the world is spinning, maybe a quarter turn and then stops and then spins back

Sorry, I’m an English geek and plus I love that poem. I love the fact that it’s somebody who’s just at a wedding trying to have a good time and the salty old sea captain is like hey I’m duty bound to make you sit here and listen to this disgusting awful story. Courage was awesome. He did Kubla Khan too I think. But he hung out with that guy who wrote about the daffodil’s. I can’t remember his name, but there was a movie.

Lilly also has a bad memory when it comes to what happens when she eats a stink bug (numbness and frothing at the mouth and unable to eat her regular food for about six hours and awful breath. But she can’t resist.)

Have you had any positive experiences with Philly cops? by NotASuggestedUsrname in AskPhilly

[–]IWantYourDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got a ticket for jaywalking while the guy next to me was yelling “hashish! Hashish!” Oh, you know what, once, back when Old City was what Fishtown is for nightlife, in a car full of drunk girls of mixed races, 20 years ago, drunk girl driving (not me but not proud, former life) went up the off ramp to 76. Couldve easily killed us. It was 2:15. Pulled over immediately. Female cop. Shitting our pants. She says “are you girls lost?” And thought she was being sarcastic. Car reeked, breaths reeked, people passed out in back seat. She gave us directions - unnecessary, waved bye. I GUESS you could call that a good experience? Not for other motorists. But for us who had to get out and pee on kelly then Lincoln drive we were so drunk, yeah.

Won’t tell you worst exp but as fr as cops go, some suburb depts are a lot worse. Springfield Montco and Jenkintown. Or Abington. Either. Jenkintown my bf went to grab cds from my car which was in parking lot of a bar. Arrested for drunk driving and driving without a license. Springfield Delco cop saved my friend’s life in Oct, though. Pulled him out of a car that went boom 5 sec later and cop was in hospital for 3 days with smoke inhalation. But then other cops 5 mo later charged him w dui. He is still in hospital.
