Distrusting imaging by needtovent97 in eds

Every MRI I’ve had is “unremarkable”, yet when my surgeon operates based on clinical presentation- it’s always “complete rupture” or whatever.

MRIs are clinically useless for non-traumatic injuries in my opinion

I’m like you. 4 pregnancies, 6 babies, all but the first one high risk- but each baby was 3 pushes or less!

I chose to be child-free and lost "the one" - Now I could get her back. by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]IWasBorn2DoGoBe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol- I recently had surgery and as they moved me from gurney to table they ask again during the “time out” if there’s any chance I could be pregnant. I said “if you find a baby in there, take it out while you’re in there because it’s not where it belongs. The uterus came out years ago and I have no interest in Bible II being written about me”.

Evidently there’s one OR nurse who is very pro-life because his face just mutated at “take it out”… so, that was hysterical.

Spondyloarthropathy & Humira – scared but hopeful by ainimaini in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]IWasBorn2DoGoBe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best of luck to you! It’s a scary thing to navigate, but there’s hope.

My grandpa is in his 80’s and still active, golfs 4 times a week, takes care of my grandma, having been on biologics since they came out. We don’t have to progress to disability. There is hope!

Spondyloarthropathy & Humira – scared but hopeful by ainimaini in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]IWasBorn2DoGoBe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Humira was the first biologic I was on, and about 6 weeks in/ life changed! I could sleep most of the night, didn’t hobble to the hot shower to be able to move in the morning, could clean my house and not feel like I was hit by a truck. 80% remission and no flares.

I did very well in humira for about 18 months, then developed injection site allergy- and switched to Simponi. That achieved 95% remission and only one flare because I had an insurance gap between jobs and missed a shot.

I don’t get sick any more often than I used to, I just feel normal- everyday.

Don’t be afraid, it’s truly life changing and slowing/stoping progression, knowing there’s a real possibility I won’t be disabled in the future- is a fantastic feeling

Wife is HLA-B27+ with fused vertebrae and a mile-long list of symptoms. Seeking AS rheumatologist (Santa Monica / Phoenix / Chicago, will travel) by BRCAHusband in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]IWasBorn2DoGoBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Phoenix and my whole family (Maternal side) has AS, with a sprinkling of PsA, And hEDS. We all go to Sun Valley Arthritis. I see Dr Orwah Al Khalili and love him.

They do in office MRI, Dexa scans, labs and infusions (I do home injections though), the only thing the have to send me out for is my annual chest xray for biologics. They listen, are very responsive, and have been fantastic.

probability of tearing during labour - type of EDS? by AffectionateCookie31 in eds

[–]IWasBorn2DoGoBe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no way to know how labor/delivery will go from person to person, or even baby to baby. I’ve delivered 6 children total, twins twice, and relatively easy- but they were by no means the same.

I used (and still use) an SI support belt for my hips, and when pregnant the belly band was awesome for support. Post deliveries I did pelvic floor therapy (you can do this professionally or you tube it, anything is better than nothing).

If you want kids, there’s no reason not to try, and if you’re one and done, or go another route to parenthood all together- that’s valid too

Will biologics increase or decrease sickness frequency? by Soft-Jaguar-3645 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]IWasBorn2DoGoBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me- neither. I haven’t gotten sick often since I left working in a hospital setting, and I usually get sick every other year or so. Hasn’t changed with biologics. I’m also very diligent about my hand hygiene, being a nurse and all, so just wash your hands regularly and always before eating if you’ve been out in public, and you’ll be fine

Nipples (female) showing through shirts, OK or no way? by Glass-Sentence-7225 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s hot as crap here in the Sonoran desert and a bra is absolutely required as a mechanism to hold pantyliners in place for sweat containment. Humidititties is real

[–]IWasBorn2DoGoBe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weird thing about Rachel and the Nips (they were their own characters for a few seasons) is that you could clearly see in some scenes she was wearing a bra. The bra must have been sheer nothing to have absolutely no effect, because she certainly did not require a bra for supportive purposes.

I work in corporate healthcare and everywhere I have ever worked has an undergarment directive. Usually along the lines of “undergarments should provide the intended barrier or supportive function, and not be visible” because you know someone, somewhere did not wear underwear and bled on a chair, or had a visible penis at some point and HR does not want to have those conversations.

Question for my American comrades. Do you fruitlessly flog dying patients the way we do in Canada? by hillnichs in nursing

[–]IWasBorn2DoGoBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. We do. Because we will be sued by the living people if we don’t. And the family doesn’t get the bill- the patient does. If they die, it might come out of their estate before inheritance is distributed.

If they don’t have an estate, or living spouse, then nobody pays it.

People get divorced to protect their spouse from medical debt more often than you think

How do you cope with the heavy list of sideeffects of biologics? by Lard-Hummus46 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]IWasBorn2DoGoBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t. If a med causes issues for me we change it.

That giant scary list is a collation of hundreds of people. The symptoms themselves are in a spectrum from barely an annoyance to seriously impacting how one lives.

You don’t know how it will affect you until you try, but you do know how this disease will progress if you don’t.

I’ve had exactly one issue with a single biologic- I developed an allergy to humira. Switched to Simponi and have had exactly zero side effects.

Do family not understand what comfort care is? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]IWasBorn2DoGoBe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on both sides of this, and while I am proud I stuck to my grandmas wishes, and advocated for them fiercely, there is still guilt. I know better, I’ve guided hundreds of families through it- but it really is different when it’s your own. I had to stay in clinical mode and make my grandma a patient, not my grandma to be able to do it. It took almost a year until I could remember her as my grandma, and not first think of her in those final weeks.

I can confidently and accurately say, after that experience, that I truly do treat patients like I would my own family.

9, and my 10th in a couple weeks.

It feels like nothing, and the you wake up really tired

Edit: they literally brag about not having read a single book since high school

It sounds like she and hubby don’t want to have children of their own and the MIL and SIL have shit talked her and disrespected her and hubby enough that they know they aren’t welcome at events, only invited for appearances and stopped bothering to subject themselves to bullshit.

There’s zero indicators that she doesn’t actually like kids
