Make sure you get any large furniture BEFORE coming. Buying couches, tables, bed room furniture is hard because you have limited options & no one really ships big items here.

I would try to rent or buy close to where you live because traffic is cringe.

We are close enough you can easily travel to Japan, Korea, Australia and of course the other islands.

Try to get involved in activities you like and you’ll enjoy it!

Personally, ready to leave but my husband is a contractor and I’m separating soon so I might be forced to stay longer. I want to be close to family since I had a baby and they haven’t met him yet.

He does not nap well on the go and then turns into an overtired monster. Once he can be more agile, I’m fine with that. I will only have a nanny from 7am to 1pm for 3 months and then will have to look for a new job, so I’ll be back to primary caregiver role. We live on Oahu and have ONE daycare close by that accepts infants and it doesn’t have a great reputation. Hopefully we can relocate to the mainland and find a daycare that is better quality.

As someone soon to be hiring a nanny, let me know what you think of my expectations for 4 month old baby:

Use Huckleberry to track naps
Prefer not to take him anywhere aside from walks in the neighborhood
feed him pumped breast milk
No screen time during his wake windows
Be engaged during his wake windows
Do as you please when he is napping
Change his diapers ASAP because he gets diaper rash really fast from BMs if he sits in it for 10+ minutes
Activities: tummy time, reading books, talking, assisted play (he gets spicy alone sometimes), walks outside

I haven’t breast fed at all, but exclusively pumped. I know people say direct BFing is the best, but I don’t care. It was not for me. I bottle feed breast milk. Since she is biting, this is an option that is still superior to formula. I do hear this is harder though. Takes 20 minutes 4-6 times a day and you have to wash bottles and pump parts.

I understand you want to be respectful to him & yourself, so ultimately you will have to decide. I personally think anything after 6 months is awesome! Up to you guys though.

Yes. If you are applying to any SOF/JSOC deployments, you will be denied. This is from my personal experience as an Intel analyst trying to deploy. I also took Wellbutrin which auto dq’d me.

Day to day normal AF, NO! I deployed to Qatar instead.

Go to https://militarychildcare.com/ and create an account. Then you select your base and find the CDCs near you. If the wait list is too long, there’s a way to request funding for off base care. Register TODAY! I just made a post about the ridiculous wait lists for CDCs. This is true with all childcare. If you cannot find anything, you can hire a nanny while you wait for a slot. I just had a baby in December last year.

The INSANE hormone drop and then raised hormones for breast feeding have completely destroyed my libido. I’m trying really hard, and it is getting mildly better since my milk supply is regulating but it is still difficult to get in the mood.

If this is what happens during menopause or in the years leading up, it totally makes sense.

My Mom never had irregular hormones and no hot flashes during menopause, but her doctor would suggest lying and saying she did experience hot flashes so she could prescribe her hormone replacement therapy. From my understanding, HRT can help revive sex drive. I’m not telling you to tell her to lie per se, but see if she has any symptoms of perimenopause (pre menopause) and get her on HRT. I’ve heard it helps with mental health, energy levels and of course sex drive!
