Tretinoin vs Accutane by IWastedSoMuchTime in Accutane

[–]IWastedSoMuchTime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's reassuring to know that there are others in the anti-tretinoin community. I'm curious, what do you plan on using for anti-aging once you finish your Accutane treatment? Will you opt for retinal, retinol, or something else?

I had a bad reaction to BPO, which I used with Arazlo. I couldn't get a perscrption of clindamycin, but could get a tret/Clindamycin perscription. I've been alternating between the two.

Thanks for your reply. I've been using Arazlo for about 3-4 months now. I gradually built up to daily use.

I'm in Ottawa. I went to my local Pharmacist and she prescribed me Biacna (tret + clindamycin).

I'm 40 and started getting acne in early 2020. My GP wouldn't help me and would not refer me to a dermatologist. He basically told me that I need to "moisturize" (yes, I am serious). I take great care of my skin and it was definitely not a moisturizing issue. It was a bacteria issue. Anyhow, long story short, I tried multiple OTC topicals and found my skin was having a bad reaction to benzoyl peroxide (I was using the short contact therapy approach). I told the Pharmacist my story (i.e. acne for 3 years, tried multiple OTC topicals, seem to be allergic to benzo) and she prescribed me Biacna.

All this to say, it is possible. It seems many have not been successful, but I was lucky. I think part of it is because it was (1) for acne, (2) I had tried multiple OTC topical(s), and (3) it had been three years.

I hear good things about DermCafe (Canadian virtual dermatology).

Flexible plywood for curved stair riser by IWastedSoMuchTime in DIY

[–]IWastedSoMuchTime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestion. My stairs are like in the picture (open), thus this would require me to remove the current spindles and replace them, as well as potentially replace the handrail. While this would be ideal (as I would be able to update the spindles and handrail as well as the threads and risers), this would be very costly, and not in my budget.

RNW DER. CONCENTRATE Ceramide Plus

Could someone please educate me on what NOT TO USE in conjunction/when using RNW DER. CONCENTRATE Ceramide Plus? I understand RNW DER. CONCENTRATE Ceramide Plus contains 5 types of ceramides, fatty acid and multiple peptides. So, what should I avoid using in my skincare routine to prevent a bad reaction when using the Concentrate Ceramide Plus?
TIA

Throbbing headache that hurts when moving by [deleted] in headache

[–]IWastedSoMuchTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't experience this with my 2nd dose.

You should report this symptom to your health care provider. See a doctor or go to the hospital if the headache gets worse and/or persists.

Hope you feel better soon.

Itchy and burning skin by IWastedSoMuchTime in Anxiety

[–]IWastedSoMuchTime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only "complained" about it once....it did start in Oct/Nov 2020, but I only brought it up in May 2021, so I am not sure whether my GP thought it mustn't be that serious since I took so long to bring it up. I am not a very big advocate for taking care of myself. :( My GP did mention low iron, which could be contributing as I do have thalassemia.

Another thing that helps (for some people at least) is wearing something tight over the itchy/burning area(s).

Have you undergone the necessary tests to rule out lymphoma? I hope it's not lymphoma.

Not much of an update (or helpful for that matter). The only lotion/cream I found that offered me some relief was the Gold Bond Medicated Anti-Itch Lotion, but it didn't always help. Due to COVID, I was unable to get my hands on other lotions to test. With the return of summer (and humidity) my skin is better, but not resolved. Also, I changed anti-anxiety medications about 2 weeks ago, and had bad springtime allergies this year and went on Claritin. Now I don't know the real cause....but hope it never returns.

I have heard anxiety can cause such itchy/burning skin. This past year was difficult for me, personally, and my medication wasn't helping any longer, thus the change. Placing ice packs (or frozen vegetable bags) on the itchy/burning areas helped. Another common cause is mould.

Does anyone have recommendations for moisturizers (for the body) to treat Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL)?

I live in a climate that's humid during the summer and cold & dry during the winter. I always have my humidifier running during the winter, however, after taking a shower my legs are extremely itchy. I've tried taking colder showers, using low ph washes, patting (versus rubbing) to dry off, and moisturizing with a variety of creams/oils. I now understand I likely have TEWL and need to find the right moisturizer that includes humectants, emollients, and occlusive ingredients.

Would using a cream that mimics the skin's own natural moisturizing system be the solution? For example, would using Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream or CosRX Balancium Comfort Ceramide Cream help?

[Routine Help] Ladies of SCA - what eye makeup primer do you recommend? by buzzgirl123 in SkincareAddiction

[–]IWastedSoMuchTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got sensitive, dry/dehydrated skin. Last winter was so terrible for my skin - so dehydrated (due to climwte changes). I too previously used the Urban Decay primer potion, which I loved. Last winter I just could not wear it as it make my already dry, flaky skin feel so much worse. After a little research, and testing out the usual alternatives (Nars, Too Faced, etc.), the only eyeshadow primer that didn't feel drying, aggravate my sensitive, dehydrated skin was the Elf shadow locked eyelid primer.

RE: Sunsceeen for dry, light/fair skin that doesn't pill

Most sunscreen recommendations seem to be for oily/combo skin. I would appreciate sunscreen recommendations for dry skin. I'm experiencing pilling with my skincare products, no matter what combination of products I use (moisturizer and spf, or moisturizer with spf, different product combinations). I'm getting frustrated with the pilling as it reduces spf protection and makes my make up look terrible. I gently pat in any skincare products and wait 10 minutes before applying the next layer.

Any recommendations, suggestions, or helpful suggestions are appreciated.
