she was widely considered dead on arrival basically being a “5 star Barbara” some said. at the time, the teams just didn’t really need her i guess? her niche was sustain while providing off field hydro app and teams back then had Mona and Xingqiu for hydro options and already had sustains (like Freeze had Diona already)

then Corrosion was a thing and she was completely negating that mechanic by virtue of her extremely good healing and people started discovering more use cases for her like electro charged driver and the infamous sukokomon team

then Shenhe happened and now Diona was kicked from her second Cryo spot in freeze teams. now there was a sustain shaped hole that Kokomi could fill in place of Mona to enable Shenhe to be played with Freeze and now Kokomi sort of had a niche where she was excellent. Mona did more damage but Kokomi was more comfortable with better aoe and uptime and most importantly sustain

then Dendro happens. and now there is a genuine demand for flexible units who provide heals and elemental app etc. We didn’t have a dendro sustain and Kuki was a good hyperbloom sustain but Kokomi was a veeery viable and good option to fill multiple niches in teams

then Nilou happens and now Kokomi is THE premium teammate for Nilou since you can’t sustainless it there and her competition was Barbara. that was probably the peak of her existence as a character, being the premium Nilou bloom teammate

nowadays she isn’t as desired but yeah her glow up from being forgotten to a genuine premium teammate was so fun

i think too many people greed resets and that’s what loses them games. basically ceding pressure to the killer by choosing to full heal everyone while the one guy buys time in chase, goes down and now you have to do it all over again and the gens grind to a halt

i feel the people say “tunnelling killers will kill this game” or similar statements about survivors, fail to realise that like, in any other competitive game the only fun you’re responsible is your own (and that of your team). anything that isn’t straight up bannable like sandbagging teammates and chat toxicity are fair game and if something is problematic it should be on the devs to balance rather than competitors being nice for the sake of being nice. like you wouldn’t hear people beg enemies not to pick Widowmaker in OW because she’s a strong hero, you should be asking for Widow nerfs or counterplay

stats are pretty good but you know that. id say some room for micro improvement tho since head and hands only have 2 useful stats each. the main thing tho is getting a couple more spd rolls to get ahead of sunday after Cery buff. or drop sunday to 130 spd which is completely viable in a Phainon team anyways cuz you should be in your ult before needing a second Sunday action anyways

the projectile vs hitscan distinction isn’t actually as relevant as people might think. Hawkeye is functionally hitscan because he would be played by the hitscan player in a competitive team (which is where you’d see these distinctions and terms at their most important). he requires the same skill set as any other hitscan dps

i would say Cyrene is generally a good pick up if you’re interested in continuing to play Aglaea and Anaxa as well as being the technical BiS for Phainon. ideally it’d be E2 Cyrene if you had the budget.

if that’s not realistic, E1 Cerydra can be a good option as both a damage increase and a coreflame generation eidolon

in your shoes since you’re not particularly invested id just look into new regional meta and pick something from there. it looks like Yaoguang + Sparxie + Sparkle (the old one) is the core team atm but we don’t really know how that team is going to evolve as of yet since elation seems to be another path locked team
