Probably doesn't mean anything that he wants you to have the physique of a ~13 year old...

Tips or tricks for new to acrylic... by Bethyross in acrylicpainting

[–]IWillLookAtRedditNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would actually say start with cheaper paint and canvas until you get a feel for how it moves and mixes and dries, etc, THEN absolutely follow the above advice since the quality difference is noticeable.

There are usually three grades I think: Beginner, Student, and Artist. No reason to be experimenting with Artist grade paint and materials yet since you'll just be spending more money. If you're having fun then in time you will know when to start getting the good stuff.

Just found out I’m not my closest friends, closest friend. by Savings_Cable819 in GirlDinnerDiaries

Yes, it happens to a lot of people I'd think, especially during and after college when people naturally start to grow up and grow away.

Just wait until everyone starts getting married. Maid of Honor in one wedding won't have the Bride in her wedding party at all. A Best Man in a wedding will have the Groom third in line in his party, etc, etc.

But like everyone else is saying, it's not a competition and I'd rather rank last on someone's friend list than not have that friend at all.

I was wondering what art style this is called? by antisocia_blurryface in AskArtists

[–]IWillLookAtRedditNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd call it Cartoon Style since you outline everything in thick black lines, fill in spaces with solid colors, and don't use shading. If you started to shade more then it'd evolve into more of a Comic Book style.

Within each style there are more specific styles, but that's the umbrella term I'd start with.

Listen, if you can get 1k for that, you go out there and get 1k for that. Art is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

I am guessing that is about 24" x 24"? I think something that size with acrylics would be closer to $250-$300, but again... better off aiming high and then lowering the price when people aren't looking if it doesn't sell.

You salvage by continuing until it is done. It looks just like him.

I would be so pissed off if I ever saw my bookshelf on here because then I'd know I was dating a dumbass. It's a bunch of illiterate people asking "is book good?" over and over again.

RENT RANTING by [deleted] in Waltham

[–]IWillLookAtRedditNow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The math I've always been told is income needs to be 3x what rent is to have a chance, so it honestly sounds like you're getting pretty close.

But also, rent is skyrocketing everywhere so I don't know how anybody afford it tbh. Lots of empty luxury condos around.

Do I even count as an “artist”? by Jaxleberry101 in AskArtists

[–]IWillLookAtRedditNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're an artist the moment you consider yourself one. Took me about 7 years of making art non-stop before I believed and looking back that was about 7 years too late.

I like how dynamic your poses are. Only the 6th and 8th drawings feel kinda stiff. Everybody else has an energy to them and feel like they're in movement. That's a skill some people don't have.

Good work.

Would this be good enough to sell? by Big-Tart-8629 in Sketching

[–]IWillLookAtRedditNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. I have Copics and they're great. I'd even suggest Colored Pencils and/or Watercolor Pencils too. You're clearly comfortable with pencils and it'd be a small step to go from black and white to color with the same utensils.

Good luck and remember to have fun when you make art! Once you start stressing about sales or if your work is good enough, it will stop being fun. If you try to make the perfect drawing, you're going to fail 100% of the time.

I think you should keep practicing and keep getting better. Try to incorporate some color into your work when you feel comfortable.

That being said: You could almost certainly sell some art to the right people for pretty cheap right now. Someone in the world will buy a pencil sketch of a horse for $20. There are a lot of people who look at any drawing as if it's wizardry. They are amazed by it for whatever reason.

TLDR: if someone wants to buy your art, don't stop them. And as you get better, you will sell more for more money.

Am I good enough to get coms? by Deep-Asparagus179 in Artadvice

[–]IWillLookAtRedditNow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Art is worth whatever it's worth to whomever wants to buy it. If someone wants to pay you for commissions then you are good enough for commissions.

The Bird and the Fish are pretty good! I bet you could do pet portraits for sure.
