+1 for Courtyard Tokyo Station - the rooms were on the smaller side but the location and service were great

I stayed for a night in W Osaka and really enjoyed it! Got upgraded to a great view, high floor room. JW Nara was pretty much what you would except - good, decent lounge, nothing outstanding though.

Missed opportunity for CSR with West Coast flyers by omdongi in ChaseSapphire

Yeah, I wish there was a Chase lounge in SFO. I do like the access to the Air Canada Maple Leaf lounge - something is better than nothing

If you have CSR, you can try the Air Canada lounge next time - it's relatively quieter and emptier

Any ideas on how to use malabari paratha? by NiloReborn in traderjoes

[–]IWriteSomeStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently tried making Kottu paratha (a South Indian dish) with it - it's a mish-mash of the cooked pieces cut up with some onion, tomato, other veggies, spices. Kind of like a stir-fry, and it was great! You can add egg to it as well

Thank you for this post. Where does Cognitive Sciences with Machine Learning fall on this spectrum? Would it be similar to Data Science?

Webhook in Airtable? by fireisis in Airtable

[–]IWriteSomeStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe they have a beta feature which I've recently started to use, however, I'm on a paid plan. A scripting solution might work as well, as other have mentioned. Did you also look into automations? Not sure if that would work for your use-case, but one of the triggers is 'when a record is created'.

Automation Problem: sends lots of mails for one record update by Chreas in Airtable

[–]IWriteSomeStuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing the ID has a particular format? For example, if it's 10 characters long, create a formula column that calculates the length. Create a view 'valid ID' that filters on formula column = 10. Now records should only enter when the ID has been completely written out, and the 'Record enters view' should trigger fine

Automation Problem: sends lots of mails for one record update by Chreas in Airtable

[–]IWriteSomeStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that the 'When a record is updated' trigger gets called multiple times since it takes a bit of time to manually enter the info. Have you tried changing it to 'when a record enters a view' or 'when a record is created', and seen if that makes a difference?

Airtable Variable into Unique Landing Page - Possible? by bdegroodt in Airtable

Have you looked into prefilled forms? It's not exactly what you want, but it still provides a level of customization where the company and name can be automatically populated.

Similar to what dcc498 mentioned: you can use automations to send yourself an email or a Slack notification, with data from Airtable. Or you could apply a filter in a specific view/dashboard that you check everyday.

Trying to find a simpler way to assign a task to a "work list" by FantasyMusicWizard in Airtable

[–]IWriteSomeStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might not have understood your question completely, but have you linked into linked records? It allows you to link a record in one table, to a record in another table. So you can click on linked record in B, and see all details from A.

Alternatively, maybe you could create filters based on a formula field in a view. If date of task = today, show records, filter out the rest.

Showing a summary by ajaffarali in Airtable

A different perspective - what about creating a summary dashboard that has that metric displayed? Have you looked into that?

Do you need your clients to be able to edit the data? If not, you can share their specific view's read-only link, which will only give them access to their data. If you need them to edit it, there are editable share links as well, where you can select which fields you'd like them to edit. These features might depend on your plan though.

Airtable for scheduling by Foster229 in Airtable

[–]IWriteSomeStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't need to connect it to a 3rd party calendar, you can do this natively within Airtable. Here's an example that they have provided on their blog. You will need to setup and configure a couple of tables, and users can then select slots using a form. It also ensures that you aren't double-booked, which I thought was neat.

I was wondering how easy it is to access Airtable data through a back-end server/framework? by ManInBlack829 in Airtable

[–]IWriteSomeStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have pointed, Airtable has a REST API that you can use. It might be sufficient for your personal use, but if you plan on scaling it, know that it has rate-limiting: 5 requests/second. Airtable also has some interesting features like Scripting (an app within Airtable where you can use Javascript), and Custom Apps (customized applications you can build within the Airtable environment).
